Horizon Zero Dawn

Stating someone is flat out wrong, isn't really friendly conversation anymore. Now we're playing an entirely different game. Should you have said "Well, I'm not sure I agree, but here are some other games that are better looking by a long-shot, and this is why...", we'd all be having better rapport.

"Well then you're wrong" and "You're wrong", is the same exact shit.

Getting really derailed now.

I have never played any of CoD games. But since the responses here and judgemental I'm not going to spend more of my time discussing here.
My opinion is just as important as yours. Your judgmental shit you can keep to yourself.

So then what is considered the best looking game to you? You haven't answered.

Yeah. Lets move on from this nonsense. I'm doing the boss fight at Meridian and I'm completely under prepared.

I fucking *hate* the Stormbirds and Rockbreakers. I'm like 52 hours in, level 47 or 48. Did all the Hunter's Lodge challenges and I'm just running around doing all the side quests and weapon tutorials. Still fun mostly but getting kinda old hunting for resources. Where the fuck are the raccoons and geese (need shit to max out the ammo pouches)? I see raccoons every so often but I don't think I've seen any geese or if I did I wasn't paying attention.

Hmm.....havent had a problem finding raccoons. Usually if I come upon a large section of woods and ground cover there are many types of animals for resource collecting.

I noticed geese are more often near water. So look around when you see the Snapjaws or areas where there are bodies of water or a flowing river. I also am kind of sick of the random drop nature of the hunting resource gathering. Nothing worse than wasting an hour of time hunting an area for like Turkey Skin only to shoot like 20 of them and only return one when I needed 3 in total. Even worse IMHO is the fish skin. I still need a couple but it doesn't drop often and there aren't places that have a lot of them.

Geese are the birds that fly away when you get close to them. You can usually find a shit load of them perching in high spots. I would use the slingshot so you can kill multiple before they all fly off. Raccoons are rare to see, but I usually see at least one running around wherever I may find myself. If you're hunting for specific wildlife then get into the habit of using your Focus to search for and tag targets. That way you can find your prey easily before they would otherwise run off. I find Focus especially helpful for hunting fish.

I actually have a harder time getting fish bones to drop than fish skins.

So some questions I have...

1) Best armor
2) Best weapon set
3) Do you buy maps from vendors
4) Which stuff you buy from vendors typically
5) Best resource farming areas (I need some rare items to upgrade my quivers etc.)

Let me know.

Game like dope.

I carry multiple sets of armor and weapons. If I'm fighting say glinthawks I put on my ice resist armor which is over 100 so their attacks literally don't hurt at all. If fighting rockbreakers or behemoths I will swap to various weapons, usually my trip wires and traps and just kite them backwards through everything while stacking elemental effects all over them or tearing off their guns and armor which then allows the elemental effects such as fire really decimate them.

I finished the game today, and I have to say I loved it. It's my pick for GOTY so far. The only real bad thing is no NG+.

Trying to finish Cauldron Zeta, looks like someone forgot they were designing a boss fight for a game that uses a gamepad and has a really effing narrow FOV. I know exactly what I need to do to disable this boss and then knock his health down, I had him over 60% down, but god forbid I get hung up on some debris I can't see because the FOV gets narrow when I'm near a wall. I have to spend most of my time running around just to find a good spot, by then, t-rex is madder than hell and ready to knock me against a wall and stomp me to death. Maybe I need to stay in the center.

This fight is really fun when you can manage to avoid the pitfalls of the arena, but it's almost like playing an NES game where the mechanics are clunky and the AI is much better at navigating around obstacles.

Oh, and the health potions; great, let me carry 6 different potions, 10 each, then let me fumble through them with the D-pad while I'm trying to run from a 10-ton behemoth version of The Flash. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, you can't go into the menu (stop the game action) and use potions, I guess they expect you to operate the left thumb stick and the D-pad simultaneously.

Yeah I know the feeling. What is really messed up is if you die and it reloads it sets your down dpad option back to default position. I can't tell you the number of times I was cursing at the screen cause when I died and it reloaded, I start the fight assuming things were set as they were before I started the fight, but I go to heal and instead whistle because I was expecting it to be in the state I had been in before I died or even started the battle. Still even with that quirk I loved the game.

Can someone help me on what to do? Seems so simple, yet can't figure it out. Just starting the game, get to a checkpoint and nothing happens. Another checkpoint does not come up, I think I am supposed to find Rost.

You can see I am only a few feet away, but nothing happens. I am on the right and only quest I can do. The other I can pick is in an area I cannot get to yet. I am supposed to prove myself fighting some beast, but can't get there. Help?

IIRC you have to follow that path to reach the village to start the next phase.
IIRC you have to follow the path then look around (just follow that path forward), you'll probably find/hear a large beast in front of you as you walk along that you will have to fight. But before that you will meet with Rost and he will give you some final thoughts before he tells you to go kill it.

There is no way point to the village? It ends right there. If I go past that way point, it just stays there. I've wandered around forever, which village are you talking about?

I've watched YouTube vids, and it doesn't do this.

Have you updated the game ? There were some game breaking bugs as far as progression is concerned that were fixed.

It looks like you're way off track in the first screenshot. Can you show us your map?

I am in the same exact spot in the pic as on the quest screen shot. I will post another pic in a bit when I can.

edit,

The game is fully updated. The way point that is shown there is the same one that you can see from the game screen cap. That is where it tells me to go when I select show way point for the main quest. Only as I said, when I get there nothing happens.

You meet Rost at the gate and he takes you partway then tells you to go off on your on to kill the beast. If you didn't meet Rost at the gate then you glitched something out.

Yeah, you have to be following Rost. If I'm not mistaken the actual fight happens in the red circle I marked on your shot.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I am sure I went there but I will try again. I saved and exited the game at that campfire, came back and tried to do it. I suppose Rost just took off or something, because when I started the game from the save he was not there. Maybe I can go back and resave, and try again. Pretty annoying, I have spent more time trying to do this than if I had just started the damn game over. Thanks, and I will try again with your map locals.

So I picked this game up last weekend. Holy shit, it's good. One of the best looking games I have ever seen, aside from some weird night/day transitions that seem to light up the area like a meteor. About to take out my first Terrorjaw at level 20, can't wait to see how fun that is. Why did I buy a 1080 Ti again?

I Platinumed it Sunday morning on Hard. It took about 70 hours or so. Kinda funny when you first see a Thunderjaw it's all "NOPE, NOPE, NOPE" but once you learn the trick they aren't too bad. Still hate the fucking Rockbreakers and Stormbirds though.

Oh yeah the Stormbird was much more obnoxious than the Thunderjaw. After finally buying the harpoon launcher it really helped with the fight. The Thunderjaw wasn't so bad but I also decked out my bow with rare Tear mods which gave me about 140 tearing on the Sharpshooter bow. I was taking off his guns in 1 or 2 hits. Hitting the core was super difficult though so I kind of kited him around while throwing down constant explosive trip wires. Eventually I brought him down and received a few nice epics, totally worth the 10 minutes it took for me to bring him down. Next on my list is the Redmaw, wish I could take a few days off work for this game, I am having a blast. I wonder how far into the main story I am. I recently discovered
the scientists lab where you learn about what happened to the machines that caused them to take over earth. Hope I am not almost done!

Finished the game in just under 51 hours, did most quests except for the training and hunting quests and probably a few others including skipping some corrupted areas, I did complete all main and side quests (I think), cauldrons, and Tallnecks. As someone that isn't looking for much of a challenge, I really enjoyed the game after getting the power armor.

My Thunderjaw strategy was
to use those explodey-type (makes a bass-drop sound) arrows, start with two or three to the tail and then two each to the back-mounted guns, then knock off its side panels and attempt to hit its exposed weak spot; picking up its guns doesn't seem helpful because it'll stomp you by the time you start shooting.

The story was good, but I felt that it was too short, maybe that's a good indicator that it didn't have BS filler and I enjoyed it and look forward to more. If they were to release any DLC that expanded on the story, I'd probably buy it.

You should do the hunting quest, they make you fight a more badass version of the Thunderjaw called Redmaw.

My Thunderjaw strategy was using the Shadow Sharpshow bow (lots of tearblast mods) and use the Tearblast arrows on the both back mounted guns first (if you have enough Tearblast mods it only takes 1 arrow to knock them off). Run and pick up the guns and try to shoot the fucker in the face to knock off it's face mounted guns. Once I was done with the back mounted guns I break out the Rattler with the Freeze ammo, shoot the fucker till it freezes and then back to the Sharpshoot bow and peg it with Precision arrows (sometimes with the triple shot) in major areas until it thaws, refreeze with the rattler and repeat until dead. Doesn't take too long. I don't recall having problems with Redmaw using those combos.

So I accidentally sold my 'disguise' outfit and now can't complete a quest because I can't enter the city without it on. Anyway to get it back or get a new one?

All vendors have a re-buy option. You only need to remember which vendor you sold it to (I think).

Spent another 2 hours in this beautiful game doing sides. Picked up all Banuk figurines, did all bandit camps and closed out all corruption zones for some achievements. Also hit level 50. Now wondering if I want to bother myself doing all the vantages, metal flowers and vessels. Also I am at a loss as to how to get the remaining 3 skill points since I only know of 1 way to get 1 of the 3 skill points which is for hunter's lodge crap.

Game is still dope. I still have issues with certain animals gang banging me.

There are more skill points available than you need to get every skill, so those remaining 3 shouldnt be an issue even if you dont want to do Hunters lodge stuff.
Some Sidequests and Mainquests give you skillpoints (as im sure you know)....so i wouldnt worry too much about it, you'll probably get enough to max all your skills pretty easily just by completing all of those quests.

I only did the Hunters lodge stuff up to Redmaw....(I didnt bother doing the rest for lodge weapons)
And Im level 50 with all my skills maxed and only just now completed the Mainquest up to the Makers End quest, so i have quite a bit further in the game to go.
Now I have done every sidequest that Ive had show up on my map so far, so im sure that helped a lot.

I already finished the game and am reset to the last scenario. I also didn't get the all allies achievement so I am going to look for an ally I missed.

started the game yesterday, i really like it!

I thought the performance was bad but i checked digitalfoundry and they say its at a near constant 30, but it still looks/feels like a mess, im guessing because of excessive bluring (like uncharted 4). is there a way to turn blur off?

edit: Might have been my TV this whole time. turned on Game Mode and it seems a lot less blurry? (unless placebo)

also just saw the new expansion. still really enjoying the game, so im looking forward to it!

I just started this game over the weekend and haven't noticed any performance issues whatsoever on my Pro at 4K. 30 FPS here feels solid with no dropped frames or frame pacing issues that I can perceive. So I'd have to say it's your TV/display if you're having issues. I use "Game Mode" on my Samsung KU7500 too though. Digital Foundry said performance between the base PS4 and Pro are pretty much identical though.

I'm not sure if this a Pro only feature, but I did see an option in the display settings to "Favor Performance" or "Resolution" and I couldn't find a comparison between those modes on Digital Foundries channel (which was surprising considering they've been covering the Pro pretty well otherwise). I've left mine on "resolution" and still haven't ran into any noticeable performance hiccups.

FYI this game is for sale at 35% ($40) off in the PSN store right now for the next week or so, I think. I had a 20% off code too from when I got my Pro and used it to get the game for $30%.. can't beat that for right now it seems but this is an easy buy at full price too though.

Same experience on my PS4 Pro and KU6500. Was testing the TV with the various default settings, but as soon as I enabled Game Mode and calibrated the other settings all the jankiness went away. Getting a smooth 30 FPS with Favor Resolution and HDR enabled in the game.
