Does being the inventor of e-mail get you laid more often, or what? Shiva Ayyadurai is in the news again for wanting to join the Senate, but he will probably forever be known as the guy who insists that he created e-mail.

Earlier this year, Ayyadurai sued Techdirt, alleging the news website libeled him by calling him a "fraud" due to his claim to have invented e-mail. Ayyadurai had previously also sued Gizmodo's parent site Gawker over articles that he alleged also disparaged him. As part of the settlement in that case, those two stories were removed and he got $750,000. In both lawsuits, Ayyadurai was represented by Charles Harder, the lawyer who also represented Hulk Hogan in his lawsuits against Gawker. The Hogan lawsuit led to a $140 million verdict, which drove Gawker into bankruptcy and shuttered the website.

What he likely did was enhance or refine email closer to it's current standard. But ARPA was the first for sure. So he can't claim he invented it.

When I was back in high school, I submitted an idea for a contest to solve traffic problems. That idea was to use communication systems to communicate car position and speed data and suggest alternate routes on congested roads. If you follow the patent trail used by Sirus-XM's traffic net, you'll see if goes all the way back to ConTel corporation...the company I submitted my idea to for a scholarship competition.

We already know he can talk out his ass so he seems perfectly qualified for a position in government as far as I am concerned.

Lol he's up against Elizabeth Warren. He's basically throwing his money away, 'cause she ain't losing.

No. Are you going to sure the gun companies if somebody shoots you? Or sure the knife companies if somebody stabs you? Or sue the car companies if somebody runs you over?

Happens very often, some cases end up fruitful sadly.

A man who claimed he was a business expert despite 6 bankruptcies ran for president and "won". So i don't see a reason why this will not happen...

Unlike other modern presidents who never filed for bankruptcy because they never started or owned a business.

Considering how many businesses he has started, having only 6 of them fail is actual a pretty good rate of success.

Thats actually not a bad point. Do you have anything to put those 6 banckruptcies in a better light?

Speaking of this douche, does anyone know how things aregoing with the Techdirt folks?

I haven't heard anything since it was first announced that this jackass had filed a lawsuit against them.

He's about 8 years too late. Who cares about email anymore?

As long as people are making random-ass claims, I'd like to officially make it known that I invented the website [H]ard|OCP (which gets me hella laid all the fucking time), and I'm the REAL creator of UNIX, and this year my company will be releasing a GPU that will shame the best nVidia and AMD/RTG have to offer. Next year we will be releasing an x86-64 CPU that will make Zen and Kaby Lake look like Fisher Price baby toys. Also I have an 18" penis and I co-founded Micro Center.
EDIT: And I'm still pissed at Sony (and later Microsoft) for stealing my idea for pressure-sensitive buttons on controllers (see PS2, PS3, and original Xbox).

Im already poking holes in the pressure sensitive button claim since ATARI which came WAY before (PS2 PS3 and Xbox) has said buttons......;) Lets take him to court!!!!!

Bankruptcy can be a very strategic thing to those who know how it is done right. So I think it can be said he is a business expert if he used it to his advantage and was able to get another business going to make money.

If this is the same guy from an article I read awhile back - he invented an app he called "email" then went around claiming he invented "The Email" ... at any rate, if he wants to spend money running for Congress, he has the same right as anyone else to do it. From a strategic POV if he hits Warren on all of her money / Wall Street / fake race claims and maybe get an endorsement from Bernie to pull in the millenial votes - he would have more than a good shot at winning, I would say. Now is not a good time to be an establishment candidate, whether right or left. Plus, people said the same thing about Trump's chances of winning and look at where we are today.

Email was invented in 1965. This guy was 2 yrs old. Coding probably wasn't as important as the milk bottle he wanted from his mommy at the time.

MAILBOX from MIT was delivering messages to other people electronically and being left for them to read later in 1965.

I am laughing pretty hard picturing him at 2yrs old at MIT coding this up... OMG .. I'm dying here.

If you are interested in the actual origin of email that is during this boys preteen years, here is a great article on the subject.

Anybody remember Al Gore claiming he invented the "Internet"? I never saw him actually say that but I remember the meme's everywhere.

I know it technically started as a Department of Defense project to make any individual command center being taken out not able to disrupt communications. They had no idea what they were actually inventing. Al was technically old enough to have been part of that project but I'm sure he wasn't. I wonder what he was actually saying at the time.

Here is a pretty good synopsis of what happened.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ntion-of-the-internet/?utm_term=.d8b99032b532

Short version:. Al Gore never said those words verbatim, but he did say something stupid about taking an initiative in Congress to created the internet.

Now he was referring to some bills he was involved with that expanded the internet an made it more commonplace for consumers, but the way he phrased it was just awful, and he deserved some ridicule for that. Probably not as much as he got though.
