AMD Ryzen 1700 CPU vs 1700X CPU Review @ [H]

Well, I installed the Hyper 212 Evo in place of the Wraith Spire and, it made the idle temps almost 5C cooler. Since this is my work machine, I have not really pushed it but, it is working well nonetheless.

Well, I have got it up and running and all is well so far. I have tried to raise the memory speed from the default 2133 and it won't boot. I have 16gb Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 (2 x sticks). I am using ASUS Prime X370 Pro mobo with latest BIOS. The memory is on the mobo compatibility list but only as 2133mhz. Have I made the wrong choice with the memory ? or is there a way to crank it up ??

Personally, I would just let it be and enjoy it. I have two of the same board and only my GSkill 2800 ram will run at 2666 speeds. The GSkill Aegis 3000 stuff will not do over 2133, although it recognizes the XMP profile of that ram. It is fast either way, we may just have to be patient. However, if you bought it at a Microcenter, you can always return the ram and pick up something on the list that will run at a faster speed.

I would probably look on the QVL list and get faster RAM. AMD has shown that the faster RAM can net about 10% extra performance.

Sorry to be off topic, but I have a question about the RGB led on the Wraith RGB cooler of the Wraith.

How do you make the led light distribute evenly over a piece of semi transparent plastic? I want to make led radeon logos for my RX 480.

Something like this (note: I'm not affiliated and haven't used this product, so I can't give advice about how well it works or how to use it).

Well, I played around with the Asus AI utility and bumped it up to 3.8ghz at 1.3375v and ran a few games, then ran the cpu-z stress test for 20 minutes or so as none of the games stressed it enough to get the temps up. After 5 minutes or so temps went to 70C and then gradually creeped up and stabilized around 75C and stayed that way until I shut it off 10 minutes later. That's likely the highest load this system will see for an extended period of time, and probably the limit I'd want to take it to temp wise. More than I expected with stock cooling and probably indicates I could get a fair amount more with an AIO, but I'm going to back it down to 3.6 and call it good for now and start playing with memory timing.

Here's the bench at that speed:

Pretty close to the same here. My mobo only just got the option to set cpu voltage with the latest "beta" bios, so it's not reporting voltage correctly through CPU-Z. Using Ryzen app to set voltages and clocks. Temp sits solid at 75.5C if I leave it under full load for hours, idle temp is 33C. Voltage in app is at 1.3375 V, 3.9 oc on all cores, Spire fan speed set to 100% (which was surprisingly quiet).

I was able to get 2400 out of the same ram by loosening the timings to cas16, but I can't get any higher than that (yet). I'll revisit after bios updates.

I have CMK16GX4M1A2666C16 and running 2x dualrank 16gb 2666mhz CL16 at 1.28 v DOCP except voltage Ryzen 1700 Asus B350M-A
Worked since release...

Has anybody get anywhere with overclocking the Ryzen 1700 using the wraith cooler ? if so what was the highest stable speed ? Thanks

I have been running a lot of tests with the stock cooler while I wait for my Arctic Cooler AM4 ring...

The best I can get from my 1700 is 3.7 at 1.2v with RAM at 2400. This maxes out at 72 C running my Handbrake torture test for about 90 mins. I have been able to clock up to [email protected] and [email protected], but those setting fail my HB test. I cannot clock the memory any higher, anything above 2400 won't post which is really disappointing since paid extra for 3200 Mhz RAM (G.Skill Ripjaw). I am using the ASUS B350-M. Not very happy with this MB, but it was the only microATX one available at launch.

Thank you, I did read those but already tried those suggestions. The BIOS for the B350M-A seems pretty immature at this point, the only DOCP settings available are 3200Mhz, which of course won't post. I only got to 2400 with Ryzen Master. With the Ryzen 5's being released soon I think there will be more people considering this microATX board, so I hope that will motivate ASUS/AMD to get this issues resolved. Impatiently waiting...

Select DOCP and set freqency to 2666

The DOCP takes what your ram is rated it. You can change the speed in advanced settings - for example DOCP picks out ddr4 3000 for my ram and I then change the speed in advanced settings to 2400 so it will boot but it keeps the timing and voltage from the DOCP profile.

hmm, I don't remember seeing the option to enter the speed. I will take a look and report back. Thanks again guys!!

Odd, I didn't notice that memory speed setting before, but as soon as I jumped into the BIOS, there it was. But, I still can't get anything faster than 2400 to boot. I tried adjusting the timing and voltages, but nothing higher would boot...

Yeah, I think we're going to have to wait for bios updates to get any higher. I may try upping the VSOC a little and see if it gets any higher speeds but I'm pretty damn happy with how it runs right now.

I'm doing my Ryzen 1700 a bit differently more like a server.

- Moving the DVR software off the i5 3570
- Removing all VMs from the 6700k and moving to Ryzen
- Moving 32GB of my 64GB to the Ryzen
- Moving PLEX to the Ryzen
- Moving all spinning drives to the Ryzen
- Cleanup and streamline everything on the 6700k. NOTHING slow like those spinning drives will stay.

Maybe sometime I'll pop the 1080TI in for some testing though ;) I have a GT 710 for general usage!

Not bad I got the 8 core variant full system build (case, psu, graphics card) locally (with tax) for $5xx.
