ESP if you get one with 600+ watts of power. The you likely only need a molex to pcie6/8 pin to run any decent GPU.

My Z400 has the stock 475W PSU that it was originally configured with. It includes one 6-pin PCIe power connector and it had no issue powering an RX480 with a single 6-pin PCIe connector. I did swap the CPU to one of the 95W hex-core Westmere-EP chips, but I don't see why the newer version wouldn't have at least one 6-pin PCIe power connector if the older version did.

Does anyone know if they changed the interior layout of the chassis? The outside looks identical to the Z400. There is only room for 2 3.5" drives in mine without using bay adapters in the 5.25" bays.

The SD thread had someone mention that this has 2 x 6-pin PCI-e connectors on the PS in it. If one needed a 8-pin connection don't they make a 6-->8 pin adapter?

I order one last time this deal was posted on SD (they went fast). Mine came with the 600 watt power supply and 2 six-pin PCI-e power connectors. It also came with all the appropriate cables to max out the three 3.5" bays and the the three 5.25" bays. For max ram performance only use 4 sticks of ram in the correct slots.

Helluva deal for a desktop, add 8GB RAM and an SSD and this would last most desktop users years.

Damn. Would of bought it for a friend. I have a Z220 at work. Solid workstation, very dependable; more so than my MBP`13 2015

Damn that pretty good! Its Sandy Bridge era but my 2500K is still doing fine with 2 less cores

i have a ryzen, but this is still really tempting. On ebay there is a reseller with E5-1620 3.6ghz quads for $249

It's not _that_ bad when you can pickup a R7-1700 for $280, cheapo B350 mobo for <$100 and get 3.8-4GHz.

I got mine from microcenter. $329 cpu, $69 motherboard after $30 savings. $100 ram, $100 case, $100 psu, $200 video card. $900 + tax vs $350 shipped. of course if your into gaming, the $350 machine will also need a gpu upgrade.

Never said it was cheaper, just that a Ryzen 1700 setup is not _that_ bad, especially if you don't go stupid bling bling with the components ;)
No insult intended as I myself tend to go "stupid bling bling" with the components for my builds anyway :p

What I had in mind for a cheapo build :

$280 R7-1700
$30 HSF (optional, maybe use the Wraith Spire)
$75 B350 mobo (thereabouts, with rebates, etc.)
$75 16GB DDR4 (thereabouts, say for >= 2400)
$35 Corsair CX600 (w/MIR)
$30 whatever case

===

$525

I love the wraith spire. so thats $30 you can save. I got 16gb ddr4 3000 CL15 for $95 -- considering the difference it makes i wouldnt skimp on ram speed. You don't need to sell me on this, i love my ryzen -- but im also trying to help a family member get their first gaming computer -- and i cant think of anything better then a HP Z420. Its a complete rig that flat out wrecks anything in its price point. A couple sold on ebay this past weekend for $181 + $20 shipping. you get 600 watt psu, windows license, 8-12gb of ram, hard drive, 3.8ghz sandy bridge quad core, motherboard with two 16x pci-e slots.

My wifes cousin can barely afford $200 so a cpu thats on sale for $280 doesn't do them a lot of good.
