I recently was hit up by a new member to [H] forum about the purchase of one my 1155 bundles, the user has "0" heat also. He wanted me to invoice him through PayPal which would be a first for me. I thought invoicing was used for businesses and by me creating an invoice does that make me liable to pay taxes on goods that are sold?? I usually just give the buyer my PayPal addy for goods and services. Just curious about the invoice option and if it adds any different level of service for a buyer or seller?? Seems like seller/buyer protection is the same across the board. Any enlightenment is appreciated. I have since informed the party that was interested in my for sale goods that I would not be conducting business with them for the above stated reasons of "0" heat and new membership as well as they kept saying they were have trouble adding their email address to either PayPal or through the PM system of the forum. They were saying that an error message kept coming up telling them that their email was inappropriate or some such.

Regards,

MR

That was the smart play!!!

I used to do the USPS money order thing but so many tire kickers would say they sent it and I'd wait for it to arrive, to later be told "it was returned to sender" or "not at this address". I gave up and deal with the PP bs now.

I've gotten that a lot as well, but now I just say it's for sale until the money order arrives or you email me a pic of it. I figure if they go through the effort to fill one out they'll send it.

Sending them an invoice is just because they're too lazy to go through the process themselves basically. By doing it that way they just have to confirm the payment after they receive the invoice instead of getting your email, entering your email, how much to send, what it's for, etc... you're just doing it for them.

As for the email being inappropriate I am pretty sure [H] doesn't allow newbies to send their emails (or links) via PMs anymore and filters them out which is probably what they are talking about.

For the record I send people invoices for money often, although I don't sell to newly registered users on the forum.

hey OP, since this thread has been necroed, what was the outcome? did you cancel, get paid, or get bent over?

I ALWAYS get/send invoices for anything over $500 unless the person has been here longer than i've been able to drive a car. That's my legitimate rule, 8 years and good heat and they've got my trust. It allows you to more specifically doccument the item and terms.

As far as money orders go... screw that. if someone asked me to send a money order for something on here i'd fall out of my seat laughing. takes forever, a pain in the ass, and very 1995 ish.

just use common sense guys.

I joined eBay on Jan 24, 1998 and you could only deal in money orders or local sales for a few years before paypal etc came about.

What you said is funny, since I still ask for USPS money orders on high ticket items all the time; I always give a better price to the buyer for doing that.
They can be cashed at the post office as I ship, so no worries about me being scammed.

When I ask for a USPS money order, the buyer either says yes and we deal, or they say no and we dont.
They usually email/text me a picture of the MO and send via priority mail, and I ship the same way
I dont have any issues, and turn around time is usually 7 days or so.

They usually put it in my heatware, and I put it in theirs; it builds trust for both of us.

You offered me PayPal for both of the items I bought from you and they were flawless ;)

LOL, yeah but that is us, both with a good, active history of trades.

I was not worried about me scamming you :)
I also dont think, with my amount of heatware and how recent it was, you had any reason to worry either.

The thread is about a user with zero or very little heat.

P.S. Just left you a negative for being a smart aleck :p

I just took some of the other members advice and decided to not risk anything and just forego trading or conducting business with the person

I know I'm a bit late to this party, but the invoice thing also helped when I was getting a error saying my address wasn't verified (it has been for many years) and no matter what I did I couldn't send money to someone who had the "verified address" flag set. That said, 0 heat and a high value transaction might warrant a bit more seller protection than paypal. My understanding has always been that sellers are far more likely to get screwed by paypal when a trade goes bad.

I recently had a member ask for the same. They had under 100 posts and I informed them it was against H rules to trade with them.

In the past, I've received an email from "paypal" after sending an invoice that the invoice had been paid and it was ok to ship. Of course, no funds actually went into my paypal and it was a farce.

Generally, I'll take a few less $$ just to deal with a long time member and save the hassle of any screwy business.

I have this same problem. I added multiple CC's to try to fix it with no luck, I even called to complain and they told me it was verified, but it just doesn't show up as such.
