As expected, Call of Duty is dropping the futuristic stuff and going back to the franchise’s roots by revisiting the Second Great War. Setting and context is just one part of the puzzle, so it is hard to say if the game will be any fun or different from previous titles, but I guess we can count on killing Nazis and stuff.

It appears that the next Call of Duty game, that is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, will be called Call of Duty: WWII. From what we know, Sledgehammer will bring Call of Duty back to its roots, and it appears that its first artworks have been leaked online. It’s worth noting that the source behind this leak is the same one that also leaked Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare a year ago. Not only that, but the title font appears to be similar to what Activision has been using, so this seems like the real deal.

Think the 5 people that still play CoD will be able to adjust to no lasers, autolock, ultra power up orbital missile autokill guns and be able to aim down plain ole iron sights?

BF1 already locked down the classic war scene and they did it masterfully and beautifully with an engine that isn't based on something that's 15 years old.

I am glad they are going back to ww2, we don't need more modern / future fps from the cod series, but I still expect the same kind of bs multi-player. It will just be "artillery strikes" instead of the current modern day stuff.

I think it's time to get back to the creative drawing board and see if they can do something other than "score streaks" then "death to all woot"

I think I would rather see this be in the Pacific arena, and not the European. Imagine what they could do with aircraft carriers, small islands, and jungle warfare....including rescuing POW's.

Good! I've been trying to get Call of Duty 2 to work on W10 with no luck. The Anniversary update locked me out of singleplayer. I hope it is similar with updated graphics. COD2 had campaigns in Russia, North Africa, and Europe, hopefully this game will follow suit.

Meh, BF1 is still a fast paced run and gun disaster.

These BF and CoD games keep changing the settings, but at their core they are still the same old lowest common denominator, fast paced, unrealistic junk they always were. (except maybe the original BF1942, which I recall enjoying, but its been a while, maybe it was junk too, and it's just that my tastes have changed, who knows)

The Red Orchestra series masterfully did WWII. I love it and need to get back to playing RO2 one of these days.

It truly captures the horror of the WWII era battlefields. Running for your life from cover to cover, narrowly cheating death as the German MG unloads in your direction, getting in position, and then hearing the horrific screeching roar of artillery overhead. Beautiful, horrific, scary, and a game that requires true team strategy in order to win. None of this Call of Modern Battlefield crap can ever compare.

I just need to finish the current game I am in first, then I'm going back.

I still go back to Red Orchestra once in a wile to get my Nazi killing fix (that's pc, yet, isn't it?) The WW2 COD's (and MOH, too) were, in my humble opinion, the best shooters ever. Running through the trenches on D-Day to knock out the guns was da bomb. Literally and figuratively.

I liked world at war, but I really don't see them making a good game anymore, call of duty is just bad.

Bout damn time. So tired of the Modern / Futuristic COD's (Although MW1 was excellent). Lets see if it can live up to COD & UO.

I still think the CoD franchise peaked at CoD4. All the modern iterations are so annoying with people running up walls and crap.

Thank God for those unique, Activision fonts; one might have been getting burned with this leak.

The original MoH was amazing. Getting that Browning Auto and kill'n krauts was never more satisfying. ..

I've been playing CoD since vanilla on PC. I stopped after Black Ops. Game just got bad. After Bobby Kotick got his hands on it, the series went down hill.

I loved IW. It had the best single player story since MW. I dont care about MP so they can go screw that up all they want.

He's been CEO of activision since 1991.

CoD1/CoD2 were a ton of fun, back in the day. I might get this WWII edition, if it has a decent single-player campaign (1 & 2 had good, intense single-player for its time).

I just wish there were some decent (and LONG, not 3~4 hour scenarios) single player campaigns with WW1/2 settings.

CoD WaW was pretty good IMO and it was longer than 4 hours.

Thanks for the suggestion, WaW is World at War right?

Also, 3~4 hour is a bit of an understatement on my part, I am looking more at Return to Castle Wolfenstein/HL2/FEAR length campaigns, but I'll take anything that isn't as short as MW/BF/GoW campaigns

I'm excited for this! It'll be nice to have a 'modern' WW2 game. CoD and CoD2 were excellent games. MoH was excellent. I want to see some updated games. Hopefully, they bring something new to the table instead of a remake or just the same ol' cookie cutter game. They need to do this right, and do it good. I'm hoping.
