GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Discussion Thread

According to this tweet, the 1080Ti Hybrid kits may be out next week... I highly doubt in Canada though.. :(

Titan X owners have been playing this song and dance for 8 months now.

Is anyone seeing the cost rise of the 1080 ti? ...to nearly $900?

I'd like an EVGA card, I would rather save the money and just go generic or other brand.
Many websites support marketplaces now, so you have to make sure you're looking at a listing for the website you're on. On Amazon, make sure it says "Shipped and sold by Amazon," for example.
Still waiting on icx coolers founders edition doesn't have dvi otherwise i would get one. Seen a non reference zotac on ebay today but its a blower.
Why do you need DVI when your signature says you own a S2417DG?

Ah sweet. Cheers. I may look into that after I take some Brave Pills.
lol.
No need, it hardly affects temps if used in moderation.
Increasing the voltage also increases clock speed, they are tied together, its a free boost until temps rise too much.
As temps increase beyond the next 4C boundary, the clock speed will reduce again so there is a point where its not worth adding more voltage.

My max at 60% fan is around 50mV.
Higher fan speed may allow higher clock speed with higher voltage, its a suck it and see with your card.

Its worth mentioning:
Beyond 50mV higher voltage did not increase the core speed further.
But it may allow you to manually increase core speed and remain stable with a higher fan speed.
Without an increase in fan speed, the higher voltage could take you through a 4C boundary which will knock 13MHz off the core speed.

Why do you need DVI when your signature says you own a S2417DG?

While I know it's not directed at me: I have a 780, but I'm planning on buying a 1080ti. Likewise, planning to purchase upgrades (or unfortunate downgrades) of any sort takes time to make sure things are compatible.

Now that's all considering that he keeps his signature up to date. A lot of people don't bother with it after the first time.

I use a 21.5 ASUS for surfing which has HDMI but I found the DVI connector better less eyestrain.

What are you using for voltage control?

Had to drop memclock to +375. ME:A crashed at +400.

MSI Afterburner as others said, edit .oem2 file.

Also, ME:A will show handy artifacts in the film-grain (green dots) if you push mem-clock too high.

This is what I did to my 780ti sc cards with their mid/front plate (I did the full thing with 140mm and all new fans).. compared to the $120, 120mm evga kit with it's stock fan which wasn't available at the time.
I already own all of this stuff so it's not going to cost me all over again going forward. It might be a bit cheaper if you could get the splitters and extenders cheaper shopping around, if you don't require sleeved/braided, or if you happen to have any spares.

The short version is:
evga 120mm hybrid kit..$120
nzxt 120mm H55 kit.....$122
nzxt 140mm H90 kit.....$154

-------------------------------------------------
Cosair H55 120mm AiO cooler $55 or Corsair H90 140mm Aio Cooler $97 ($87 after mir)

NZXT Kraken G10 AiO Cooler Bracket $35

Copper Shims 2 for $2 or 20 for $8

4Pin PWM to 3Pin Standard Fan Adapter Cable $2 each

100 pack Nylon M2.5 Insulation Washer 2.5mm X 5mm X 1mm Thickness $5
50 pack #6 Nylon Finishing Washers - Black $10

100 pack Nylon 6/6 Pan Head Machine Screw, Black, #1 Phillips Drive, M2.5-0.45 Thread Size, 25 mm Length, Fully Threaded, USA Made ~ $8
...OR...
50 Pcs 12.9 Steel Alloy Hex Pan Head Knurled Cap Screw Bolt M2.5x30 ~ $7

IC diamond / MX thermal compound ~ $8

= $ 122 for single 120mm kit w/o thermal compound
= $ 154 for single 140mm kit w/o thermal compound

------------------------------------------

Optional - Swap out all fans to hydro bearing and push/pull config -

Sleeved 1-to-2 PWM Fan Splitter Cable $9
Sleeved pwm power extenders 2pk $7 (might not need depending on case configuration)
Custom Acrylic Fan Grills for externalized fans $7 each (only if you are sandwiching a push/pull fan externally)
Hydro bearing 120mm or 140mm Fans to replace stock corsair fans in push/pull ~ $15 each (~ $30 per radiator push/pull)
ARCTIC F9 PWM Rev. 2 Fluid Dynamic Bearing Case Fan, 92mm PWM Speed Control (Replaces stock nzxt VRM cooling fan) $8 each

Total
+ $61 each cooler push/pull config ($47 each without fan extenders ($7) and ext grill($7))
+ $37 each cooler single fan swaps ($23 each without fan extenders and ext. grill)

---------------------------------------------------

Cost to do optional stock fan(s) swap if using EVGA's hybrid kit instead of the nzxt one

I don't think you can replace the stock VRM cooling fan on the 1080ti/titan housing/shroud.
Minus that acrtic cooling fan for vrm's,
The swap to full hydro push/pull fans on the evga hybrid kit would still be another

$53 push/pull config ($39 without fan extenders ($7) and ext grill($7)).
or
$29 single fan swap ($15 for single hydro radiator fan swap without pwr ext or grill)

How do the codes work for Wildlands and For Honor I know just one of them.
Do the codes ship with the Card or are they digital?

I think most of the time they are emailed, they were with my nVidia cards as soon as my order was confirmed.

Just got done putting the 1070/1080 kits on my 1080Ti's using a method similar to Gamer's Nexus leaving the stock blower, baseplate, and backplate. I got GPU fan header to PWM fan adapters so I can use Afterburner to regulate the fans on my rads and a crazy female GPU fan to regular PWM fan adapter (from modDIY.com) so I can power and control my pumps and blower fans. I then connected those to a PWM fan splitter so tyhe blower fans and pumps are all driven off of one mobo PWM fan header.

Just to let you guys know my experiance with the 12-13 1080s i went through.. figure it might help with your cooling decisions.

Ive been using a large thermaltake core 9 case that has good air flow.. cooled dual gygabyte g1 980s just fine.

Moved to a single 1080 about 2-3 months after they came out.

Zotec amp edition cards.. was great. Dual 8 pin connectors.. large dual fans. Seemed to cool pretty great. I believe in the mid 50s low 60c tops in firestrike. Fans like max cause they were quiet and i wanted to see how high i could push it.

Then i went and grabbed another for sli.. temps went way up! Fans maxed could not keep up! Temps would top off around 74c!

Devistated i figured i needed to go with founder edition cards as they would blow the heat out the back of the case insted of cooking ea other.. or water cooling for sli..

At the time there was no water blocks out for cards orher then the fe cards.. so with no choice i hit the store to exchange them for fe cards.

Got 2 pny 1080 cards as it was all mc had at the time.

Right away i noticed the card clocks dancing up and down on load.. temps were ok but the fans were super loud at 100% haha. So ok i gota go with full cover water blocks. Its gona cost me alot cause im going to need to build a whole new loop cause what the loop i was using for just the cpu, the pump would not take on another block.

Do some wuick reserch and read that pny just changed there warranty policy and states void warranty if you water cool there cards.. read that evga dont care if you water cool!

So hit the store as soon as i see evga fe cards in stock.. exchange for them. Grab the water blocks and other water cooling gear.

On air the evga overclocked great! Over 2100mhz ea. Held off doing the water cooling swap as the family went to disney world in florida! :/

While there i was reading on the evga forums that the evga ftw hybrid was going to hit like a day later.. so i thought that would be much cheaper and save me like $500+ doing full coverage blocks and not have to upgrade my loop.. so i set a email notification.

Durring lunch the next day i get the email.. its in stock! After 5 tries to buy them it works and i might of got the last pair! Haha

Those worked great but was a prob fitting the rads in the core 9 case even though i had plenty of space with the cables.. trust me was a bish removing them testing one at a time over and over to figure out the top overclocks.. overclocked great.. ofcourse. Clocks held with no dancing so im happy..

Then short story these had the random black screen of death issue thst went around the globe eith the ftw cards.. hybrid or regular.. didnt matter. Evga was swaping cards left and right with customers.

I decided to just flat out return them and not play the game as prople were saying the new cards they got in return still had the issue.. evga claims it was a hardare issue but necer did say exactly what.

Went back to mc when i seen them get 25+ evga classifieds in stock. Taking a gamble guessing the cooling may not be great as there not fe cards as im gona be doing sli could be an issue but the heatsink is larger as the card is much wider then the ftw card.. no eater blocks out at the time and nothing mentioned. :/ not much else locally at the time at mc.

So i grab them.. one tested awesome! 2164mhz on air! Stable clocks.. never budge. 50-60s temps with single card.

Other one had an serious issue. Would toss up limit 1 for voltage, heat and i now forgot the other one.. a crap load of testing went into it and a bunch of back and forth eith the evga forum.. thrm telling me its fine and i think not cause it would not do well under stock clocks without tossing up a voltage 1!!! That would drop the clocks right away and keep lowering. To me it was clear the card should not made the grade and been used in a 1080!

Returned it! Got another one... damn damn thing! Exchanged again.. next one is fine.. works just as good as the first but not as high on the memory.

So anyways.. yes they cook in sli. Top card reaches 72c durring firestrike. I had a 140mm fan blowing at the cards from the tail end. Helped some having another 120mm fan blowing in from the connector end. Mid 60s with that.

So finally someone mentions an old 780ti classified ek water block worked with his evga 1080 classified. Ordered and the rest is history.

Lesson is.. fe only for sli cards!! But loud fans will force you to go water cooling.. fe cards will have power limit problems with single power connector so your boost clocks will dance and fall.

Water cooling them will hold the temp limit yes.. but power limit will still drop your clocks.

Going with 3rd party cards is the way to go with single cards. Make sure it has multipal power connections to void the power limits and no clock drops. Temps will be fine if you use an agressive fan profile.. i like 80-100% at 50c and above.. quiet when not gaming and crank the fan when you put a load on the card.

Yes i thought plenty about the titan xp.. cost kept me away.. but to do it all again id grab one to save me from all the above. Shockingly enough my wife was all for me just getting a titan! She was sick of going into mc! Would of had no problem slapping a full custom block on it or the hybrid cooler. Later on like right now i could of grabbed another for sli.. or the ti.

Toss in the amont of times i also went into mc to exchange other pc parts cpus, mbs, cases and tons of different water cooling parts, its a miracle mc didnt ban me! I was in there every other day! Haha

Edit: let me add that the outcome overclcoking the 2 evga classifieds on water is 2190mhz and 500+ on the vram. So i gained a little going water cooling over 2164mhz but there running super cool at 37c max on the first card and 32c on the 2nd. Low voltage at i believe 1.50v is the sweet spot for one of the 2 cards.. any higher and its not stable at 2190mhz.. max voltage and higher and the 1 is not happy.. no idea what the better of the 2 card would do since im stuck with the 2 in a loop. Never wonders from the clock no matter how long i game.. Dead silent and thats the most important thing!

Make sure in the nVidia Control Panel under Change Resolution on the right under Resolution under the PC heading that you're set at 1920x1080 and 144hz as shown here.

They can afford $2800.00 worth of GPU's but can't afford $0.02 worth of tap water to keep the plants alive.

Hahahha

But in all honesty, that's what guys do.

Another way to look at this is if those plants were alive, they mostly likely wouldn't have 1080 ti's sitting there on the desk. Instead they would have a Bubble Tea and a Copy of Out on their desk.

Almost a null statement.

You are forgetting the amount of stupid people out there. There are some people afraid of OC tools and they don't even know the the most basic thing you can do to save your video is to increase the fan speed.

What he said has no context.

I just have to say that I have been enjoying the shit out of these two 1080ti's. Everything is running awesome. Smooth with high fps and maxed out 4k goodness. I played alot of bf1 today since I decided to pick up the premium pass and dam the games gorgeous and runs great. Had a blast gaming today.

Just had to say it.

Same here.

I just started Rise of the Tomb Raider and it runs so sweet at 4k. I was hoping to get stuck into Mass Effect: Andromeda too but I've been put off for the time being.

Greetings! Generally which AIB cards are the quietest but still offer a decent overclock? I'm definitely getting the 1080ti but confused as to which brand and type to get. Thanks

The hybrid offerings from MSi (Sea Hawk X) and EVGA (Hybrid) would be the quietest, but they require a mounting spot in your case for a 120mm radiator. When it comes to air coolers the 3 fan offerings from Gigabyte (G1 GAMING, Windforce 3X, Aorus) are usually the quietest while offering the best overclocking out of the box. Hybrids will offer the best overclocking due to the thermal sensitivity of Pascal, without doing a full custom loop.
