What are you nerds playing this weekend?

FC4 is essentially a FC3 expansion pack. Petty much everything is the same except for some additional mechanics, snow landscapes vs ocean and different animals. The "sameness" is the weakness of the FC franchise, get burned out on the games. That includes blood dragon and Primal.
I wish Ubisoft would do a true sequel to the original FC.

Nier: Automata for me. Just grabbed a key for it today. I haven't decided whether to buy a Switch for Zelda yet, or grab it for the Wii U then wait on the Switch for a little while longer, so I'll play Nier first. I should have decided by the time I'm done with that. :D Still playing CRAWL for my short bursts game, and chipping away at The Witcher Wild Hunt here and there.

Also playing witcher 3. Put 20 hours or so in a few months ago when I started it but started playing other games. My interest has been reignited and I started it up again, continuing from where I was of course. Huge game and great of course.

Also playing Squad and BF1

2016's Doom. I'm on either the last level or the one before it so I gotta finish the thing!!

BF3 and Bad Company 2. Yes I am that underwhelmed with BF1 and yes the population is growing on BC2.

Just finished Mass Effect 2 on Thursday. Started ME3 yesterday so I'll have some perspective when I start Andromeda.

Just finished wolfenstein new order. One of the best fps shooters I've played in awhile that ending!

I ended up splitting my time between Nier: Automata on the PC, and Breath of the Wild on the Wii U. Couldn't resist Zelda anymore, and won't be picking up a Switch until they're readily available locally. Enjoying both games immensely! They are somewhat similar to each other being action RPGs, but they are so different in execution that they actually complement each other very well.

As my name implies, I'm a HUGE fan of the Mass Effect series. Yes, there are faults, but as an overall gaming experience it's one of my all-time favorites. I'd recommend playing the first before ME2, but diving into it cold could be interesting. You won't be familiar with the history of the characters or story, of course. ME2 has a bit of "The Magnificent Seven" feel to it. You traverse the galaxy to assemble a team of experts to fight a powerful enemy. I don't want to give away anything more. It's an excellent game, well worth the time if you enjoy action/adventure types.

I have a different take on this. ME1 is a more traditional RPG than other entries into the series save for possibly Mass Effect Andromeda. The problem is that ME1 starts off very slow depending on how you play your RPG games. The Citadel is maddening for completionists who methodically comb an area, do everything and then move on. The combat mechanics are also not terribly sophisticated. The game can be annoying because its very gear dependent which is counter intuitive in a shooter. The story and presentation are what matter, but if you approach it the way I would have it may not grab you. That's unfortunate, because the game has a lot to offer. The Mako driving, exploration and the grind of the Citadel's side missions can be quite off putting to say the least.

For these reasons a friend of mine recommended I begin with Mass Effect 2 and the Genesis DLC. This allows you to make the more major decisions for the previous game with a recap of the story. The second game is a more capable shooter and a little less of an RPG to acclimate to. The second game is also by far the best of all ME games at introducing new players to the game's mechanics. In contrast, Mass Effect 1 introduces you to the universe a bit better. There is no doubt that ME1 is worth going through but I needed extra motivation to get through it. I became so engrossed in ME2 that I had to go back to ME1 and get a legitimate save file to import into ME2 with my decisions and my experiences. There is a lot of content that you miss by starting one of these games cold. I fought through the Citadel, Mako driving and bullshit mineral quests. Once I did I was rewarded with a fantastic roller coaster ride of a game with stunning visuals (for the day) and an engrossing gaming experience. I went into ME2 and enjoyed that game better than I had before. Starting with ME1 may not always be the best idea, but that's up to you. You know whether or not you like tedious RPG's or not. Each of these games is a hybrid RPG and shooter. Different games lean towards one direction or the other with ME1 being slightly more RPG than shooter. ME2 is more shooter than RPG and ME3 is more balanced. Its still primarily a shooter but far more RPG than ME2 is. Andromeda probably has the best split between the two and is generally good at both. ME1 is a decent RPG and a mediocre shooter at best.

I finished Mad Max, pretty disappointing. The gameplay is solid and even the pointless repetitive quests are at least enjoyable. The problem was it never felt like there was any weight to anything you do. The cinematic are at minimum and often you'll go through 4 or 5 quests for a particular character and never had any interaction with them afterwards. No thanks no progression nothing and there are a looooooooooooot of these quests. Similarly there's these big warcamps each run by a TOP DOG you have to defeat to either unlock stuff or as a quest. There's maybe 6 of these that I bothered with and every time the TOP DOG is identical to the last. Same skin with a different color palate, same moves too. So there ends up being very little variety to anything you do and story wise its all very unrewarding. Then the game just kinda ended in a matter of 3 or so quests. In the last 5 minutes of the game you meet 2 characters youre supposed to care about but they die immediately, pseudo-boss fight then gameover screen.

Its a shame I think this game would have been great if they'd put more effort into the NPC interactions and made the boss battles more interesting. Unfortunately that combined with the infinite fetch quests killed this game. I paid $10? something like that and still feel like I wasted time and money.

Just finished up Dragon Age: Inquisition (better than Dragon Age 2 by far, but not nearly as good as Origins) and now I'm playing Mass Effect 3.

What's really insane is that while the Switch version of BotW runs at a higher resolution, it's not running at higher frames or with significantly better AA. I also got Zelda for the Wii U (no way I was going to sink money into yet another Nintendo console) and I'm having a great time when it goes to 30fps. Not really great when some fights turn into stutter-fests.

It's amazing because about 10ft away I've got my PC and a 1080 Ti and it's crushing frames at nearly everything I throw at it. I should get Nier: Automata I hear it's pretty good.

Diving into The Witcher 3. Bit of a learning curve to the game and I'm not really a 3rd person view player but am tackling TW3 since the reviews were good. I've already modded the game to my liking. :D

And that's precisely why I say that ME1 is better than ME2: I prefer story in my RPG. If I want a shooter, I'll play BF1. I played through ME1 three times using a good male, evil female and a neutral female. I played ME2 the first time mostly without cheats, but it wound up a slog for me so I stopped bothering and just used cheats to get through the story.

The second game is also by far the best of all ME games at introducing new players to the game's mechanics.
IMHO that's debatable. I used a mod to restore the ammo system to how it was in ME1.

Ultimately though, it's up to you, the player, and what you enjoy playing to see which ME game is better for you. (I still haven't played the third one as I haven't gotten all the DLCs for ME2 yet and I refuse to progress without doing so. ;-)

I see no reason why we can't have a good shooter with some RPG mechanics. Some of the RPG elements in those games are "because that's how it's always been" and that's not a good excuse when it doesn't add anything to the gaming experience. We could still be playing RPG's without any real combat interaction where you are really just administrating abilities. I don't enjoy that. Having a solid story, expansive world to explore and decent combat mechanics is possible with the technology we have. I think Mass Effect progressed on a technical level in the right direction. Sometimes it carried certain things to far and then corrected itself. Game play wise, ME3 was just about perfect (for the time) aside from the linearity of it's story. Inventory management sucks, tedious management of squad gear sucks, etc. Andromeda gets more right than wrong in this regard. Inventory management is a bit annoying but mostly because of the menus and how limiting your capacity is.

As I mentioned on Gen-May, I'm tempted to drop ME2 and start fresh with ME1.

Carry the save over from game-to-game (which I haven't done previously)

After starting another play-through of ME2, it basically feels like Gears of War / real-time KotOR with conversation trees....

Not really an RPG imo. More like an action / rpg-lite at best.

Mass Effect never has been. It was always a hybrid RPG/Shooter from day one. It had strong RPG leanings. Mass Effect 2 had strong shooter leanings. Things evened out a little in ME3. For the most part Andromeda is ME1 with prettier graphics and refinement to a lot of shit that we hated in ME1. Weapon modification is deeper than it was in ME3 and better than it was in ME1. The Nomad driving isn't as annoying as the Mako. I think this is because the planets aren't made from procedurally generated terrain and the fact that the Nomad was actually tuned / designed to drive on it. The planet scanning isn't as annoying as it used to be. Its not even really a mini-game anymore. The on planet mining isn't as annoying as searching for mineral deposits was in ME1. Despite getting back to its ME1 roots as an RPG its combat is excellent. Aside from some people not being able to figure out the cover system yet, it has excellent shooting mechanics. ME3's minor changes made it feel much better than ME2 or ME1's limited combat systems. ME:A blows ME3 out of the water.

ME:A blows ME3 out of the water.

That's a ballsy accusation lol.

I've still got my ME:A copy in the shrink wrap in case the general consensus is that I should return it.

(Xbone copy. I know, I know. But my rig is dangerously close to garbage-time....)

I don't know if you've seen my comments in the later pages of the BotW thread, but I accidentally had my TV's smooth-motion-whatever-thingie turned on, and I had no idea that the Wii U version of BotW didn't run at 60fps. :D It seriously looks like it was supposed to be that way, only drops below in some fairly extreme cases, and due to the way this game plays, the additional input lag is simply unnoticeable. (in contrast there are many other games where I notice right away when that's turned on due to floatiness of controls) Anyway, worth a shot if your TV supports this.

Spent 4 hours playing HZD last night till 2 AM.
Started playing Titanfall 2 and reached second mission.
Installed Ghost Recon and ran benchmark.

Hopefully wrapping up the base game on Dark Souls 2 and then getting a start on the DLC.

Going through the list of mods for TW3 on NexusMods.com, downloading then manually installing each mod. Here is what I have so far:

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project

Slots Slots SLOTS

Unification patch for 1.31 and 1.31GOTY game versions

Super Turbo Lighting Mod

Friendly HUD

Better than Icons

How are you modding the game?

I normally install mods through NMM but TW3 is a slightly different animal than say Skyrim SE or Fallout 4 so I've been doing it manually per the instructions of each mod.

Just plugged in Destiny and went to Xur I see what he had they have a vendor by the Post Office in the game picked up a void bike for the character.
