1080ti Pre-order, Retail, and AIB availability watch

Thanks for the tip. I went with a DP cable instead, although the picture colors don't look as good as with my DVI for some reason. Color is oversaturated, and everything looks less sharp. I'll have to tinker with it some more.

He stated he has a U3011. They support DP, so he could get a cable and solve his issues, instead of relying on a converter.
My bad.
Odd he didnt realise sooner given the number of DPs on his card!

Mine is due for delivery tomorrow night. Going to try and record some noise levels on my 7970 and compare if I have the time tonight.

The AMD Radeon HD 7970 is louder than the NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti.

Oh I'm sure it is. Just hearing so many people complain about the wind tunnel I wanted to record some comparisons for folks to listen to of a supposed "loud" card on a semi aggressive fan curve vs the 1080 Ti and what it can do. I know a lot want whisper quiet while others don't mind a bit of noise.

Just screen capped my After burner settings, the card through my audio recorder (H4N) and used some cell phone DB meter (all I had) with the side panel open. Ran my fan at idle, 60% and 80%, the only time I hear it that high is when after burner decides to forget it should be in "auto" mode lol. Typically its around 60% keeping the card at 70c which is just fine and fades into the background quite well when my earphones are on.

Very interested in what that level will give me OC wise on the 1080 Ti.

Maybe you tuned the color settings on the DVI input mode when you first bought the monitor? The monitor may store configuration settings on a per-input basis.
I did not notice any difference in color when I switched from DVI to DP on my 3008WFP, but I did not adjust the color in DVI input mode.
Hopefully you can make it look close to what it was before.

I just got my 1080 TI and I am super happy with the performance, not so happy with the heat and noise. In benchmarks it scores about 25-30% higher than my 1080 FTW. Unfortunately it heats up so fast compared to my 1080, and makes so much noise compared to that card. Booted up the new mass effect and it got so loud and hot in 10 minutes i could smell the heat coming out of the card. I think I will probably be returning this and pick up an aftermarket 1080 ti for my setup. If you have better airflow than me maybe it will work out for you. fan speed of <60% seems to fine noise wise, but any higher than that it gets really noticable.

I was overclocked +100 / +500 w/ set to 65% fan. Cant get benchmarks to complete at 120+ seen a lot of reviews showing +150, no where close. Shows 1939 in game, and depending on heat drops into the 18xx's.

I returned my 1080 for a full pre-price reduction refund on Sunday ($660), now I wait for an aftermarket cooling Ti to hit the shelves at Microcenter. I got my hands on a Microcenter gift card with a hair over $750 for 92% from a forum member here. Now all I need do is wait.

I wonder how much longer it'll be before I can get what I need. (2-slot, must have red LED).

Unfortunately, the integrated graphics on my i7-7700k are giving me a fit. My motherboard has a HDMI and DisplayPort on it. My monitor only has one output, and it's displayport. When I hook it in, after boot screens and/or BIOS settings, I get no signal as soon as windows starts to load. If I plug my TV in via the HDMI port, both my monitor and TV get signals and both work. If I take out the HDMI at any point or turn the TV off, the DisplayPort connected monitor loses signal. Very frustrating, can't seem to figure out why it's happening.

Yea the wait for the AIBs is the reason why I decided to not return my 1080 just yet. I can't go without my gaming fix with Mass Effect, Watch Dog's 2, and For Honor in my current rotation.

I'm just going to sell my card to my bro once these are wildly available. Gives me time to check out a few reviews and decide if I'm sticking with Strix. Most likely I will be.

I'm actually kind of surprised we haven't seen any AIB cards drop yet. The release announcement stated FE and AIB cards would both be available to sell on launch day, so I don't think there's some sort of date embargo for release. Hopefully, we'll get some trickling in next week since that will be 3 weeks from launch.

You sure the launch day announcement didn't actually mean FE cards from AIB partners? Because that's what happened. As far as non-reference AIB cards, it would certainly appear that there is some sort of embargo as while a few pictures and renders have been released with a couple of benchmarks for things like the Asus strix card being out, there's next to nothing as far as pricing. It was likely some short term exclusivity arrangement between nvidia and their partners.

The non-reference designs hadn't launched with the Founder's Edition boards. The AIB makers did have FE cards of their own available immediately. Non-reference designs were typically targeted to release sometime in April if I recall correctly.

Mine arrived today, quite surprised by overall how quiet it is. I need to get the fan curve dialed in to my liking but even at 80% of the Ti's max it sounds quieter than 60% of my 7970 (where it lived during gaming).

Temps are a bit higher but I wont comment on that till I have the curve in a good spot to keep things happy at stock before I see about pushing it any.

Played about 40 minutes of Ghost Recon maxed out, saw a few studders so I turned down bloom effects and things seemed smooth again. FPS was around 60 to 80 and the entire time I played I could barely hear the card vs my 7970 which I always knew was there.

So far quite pleased and didn't have to wait long for it.

Comparing an nViida card to AMD card in terms of noise should be a crime.

However, FE at more than 55% is unbearable. Anyone who says otherwise has hearing disability

I dunno, my 8800 and 9800's were loud as hell compared to the 5850 / 7970 that were subsequent replacements :)
I also used to have a 7600 RPM fan in my case many years ago and that was a leaf blower.

If the case was on my desk I may agree but being under, sound is deflected and my earphones block a lot as well. Idling now (lower clock speed of course) without my earphones I can only hear the radiator fans, used be able to hear the GPU as well at idle.

My hearing is just fine thank you sir :p

(I do miss the AMD driver utility and I want to turn down or off this glaring green logo lol, clashes with my red LED motif).

You can turn off logo using GFE.

Bah, didn't want that or AMD's variant either and did not install it. Oh well, green glow it is for now :) Ty for the location though!

With how stock on the FE's has been all over I'm curious if the AIB's will be similar or if knowing the demand they will have ramped up production a bit more stock.

whenever you change cable source you usually need to re-calibrate the screen. Buy a colormeter.

Just picked up my sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet EVGA 1080 Ti FE

Now I just need to wait until I have time on Friday evening to pull out the 980ti Hybrid and slap this in its place.

Agreed, while I haven't personally heard the 1080ti, I have not come across any blower type cooler that isn't very audible at >50% fan speed.

You are surprised because the internet has people that somehow need to convince everyone that it's ear splitting. While it certainly makes more noise than my FTW 1080, it doesn't bother me at all. I knew exactly what I was getting too, as I had SLI reference 980s and a 1080 FE before the FTW. In fact swapping the FE for the FTW was a mistake.

In fairness, the noise level argument is completely subjective, and it's going to vary from person to person. Some people are more sensitive to the noise than others.

I dont think its sensitivity, its just everyone has a different configuration.

1 guy is using closed ear headphones with the PC under a desk or even in extreme cases in another room.
Another guy is using desktop speakers he spent buku bucks on and has their PC on the desk next to their head with the exhaust port of the graphics card 3-5 feet from their ears.

If the PC is near your ears, you probably dont want the FE card unless you use closed headphones and cant hear it once you start up a game / music.

My system is next to the desk and inside the Coolermaster Cosmos II. I can't hear the GPU fans at 65% over my CPU cooler.

I have no problem with people not liking the noise, and I get that many people strive for complete silence. It's the hyperbole that gets to me. It has to be ear splitting, deafening, unbearable, a 747 taking off, etc. Anyone who isn't bothered is deaf or has hearing loss. There's tons of that shit around about the issue and it's BS.

Mine is on the floor to my left, probably 4 feet away. It's fine and I'm not using headphones. Over time it's probably not in the top 10 loudest video cards I've had, which is topped by the NV30 5800 Ultra. Things are just generally soo much quieter these days.

I'm much more bothered by the seeking and/or spinning noises from a hard drive than I am some air moving.

Lol naw. Just wasn't expecting it to be that quiet. I expected some improvement over my older card with better fans and one less used but it is quite a bit quieter. I have good hearing but I guess my tolerance is much better than some.

Totally subjective subject but even my 7970 would not have bothered me on the desk. The case has decent dampening focusing most of the sound out the back with the hot air so if it was up here with me it would be the same audio level, the tonal range / pitch may change but not really any quieter. My earphones are older Tritton 5.1's that are good but are not noise cancelling or complete seals.

My DP cables should arrive tomorrow and I'll see if the recordings help others on the fence about the noise levels.

The biggest drawbacks of these 1080 Ti FE is the heat and noise. The heat will be the heat, just a matter of how it's dissipated. The noise of these fans when their running at 80% plus, they're loud, period. No you may have a noisy environment or not care but yeah, loud. And in my case two is making it worse so one won't be as bad. Nonetheless given the performance level, it's probably far from a deal breaker for people who buy these types of cards. If it is, they'll liquid cool.

Agreed, these cards do start to get loud. Anything above 60% is audible / noticeable.

80% or so still bearable, if you game with headphones probably not an issue. I use semi-open DT880s and it doesn't bother me too much.

90%+ and you're going to hear it through open / semi-open cans. Closed may help.

Not any different then the people who need to convince everyone they're quiet and anyone waiting for AIB cards is making a huge mistake.

Eh, my FE ti points straight up and my case is right next to me. My fan curve tops out at 70% and I have no issues with it. My sli 780's were louder. It seems like sensitivity to me. No headphones the majority of the time either. The rest of my system is very quiet too, one wouldn't even know it was on at idle of it didn't light up. Things only barely change at load.

Gave in and ordered one from Nvidia this morning. For those who ordered from Nvidia, how much time before your order shipped? I also went for next day delivery. Thanks.

I ordered on Monday. I got it today (international priority). I live in Canada. I technically should have gotten it on Wednesday but customs clearance took longer than the driver wanted to wait.

I ordered last Tuesday. I got it this Tuesday. I selected the cheap/free shipping. It took like 3 days for the order to "process" but once it processed, it shipped very quickly after that, and actually got to my door a day earlier than the original FedEx estimate.
