Good news for current or prospective Pixel owners who still think the XL is too small: Google is reportedly releasing a third phone in their lineup this year that will be even larger than the standard Pixel’s bigger brother. While details are light, this third device, codenamed “Taimen,” is most definitely a phone—so those of you who are wishing for another Pixel laptop should not get their hopes up.

As for the name “taimen,” this is yet another fish or aquatic animal, just like the others and like almost all Google products that have arrived over the past 6 or 7 years that we’ve been keeping track of. It is a large, large fish in the trout/salmon family. The size is noteworthy (like “shamu” was) because one source tells us that the phone will have a bigger screen than “muskie” and “walleye.” What does that mean? How big? We were told that “taimen” is a phone, specifically, so I’m not sure that we should jump to the idea of it being a tablet or hybrid notebook-like device.

Hopefully this one actually exists and is available for sale at some point. The Pixel XL is still damn near impossible to find, especially in certain configurations.

At a reasonable price but I doubt it. This will probably over $1000.

I wish Google would go back to making phones I could afford. I bought the 16GB Nexus 5 when it was released for $350. I bought the 32GB Nexus 6P when it was released for $500. The $650+ price tag for the Pixel is just too much for me. The initial appeal of buying from Google was affordable Android phones, now it's just as much as any other high end phone.

To me the main appeal is that you're getting stock Android, which is getting rarer and rarer by the day. It's kinda sad that you have to pay a premium to technically get less.
