Mass Effect: Andromeda

I think too many people sung the praises of ME3 and then glossed over or ignored the fact that the ending sucked ass. 95% of the game is excellent despite the some bad writing in places, various game play quirks, design decisions and a clear indication that the game was a rushed product...

in any medium (TV, movies. games) I think a disproportionate amount of weight is given to an 'ending'...for me it's about the journey...I loved the TV show LOST even though everyone seems to focus on that admittedly less then ideal final episode...same with Game of Thrones which I consider to be the best television show ever (and we still have 2 more seasons left)...even if the ending to Game of Thrones (the books and TV series) is not perfect I'm still going to remember the absolutely fantastic 6 books that preceded it...yes it will diminish my overall impression of the story but in no way will it make me hate the overall journey...for me it's always about the journey more then the destination

if a game has an absolutely classic ending does that make the rest of the game (if it's not that good) suddenly better?...people need to relax as far as Me3's ending...I enjoyed the series a hell of a lot up to that point

I'm American tho.

edit: Amazon Prime physical edition is the same price, comes with pre-order DLC and March 21st guaranteed delivery. Guess that's my best option.

since I subbed to the origin access for 1 year (its $30 now). The price for ME preorder from origin is 53.99 for standard and 62.99 for the deluxe. Not too shabby

Can't download the trial. Not an option. Dealing with EA support now. Oh joy.....

Stupid question, but I just rebooted origin and it worked after 2:30pm.

Good luck with EA....fuckin they are a pain in the ass

I know. My girlfriend's account got hacked once. EA's answer to that issue was to delete the account and all her software and games with it. They didn't even send her an E-Mail. She got this shit over a Thanksgiving holiday a couple years ago. Fucking scumbags.

I agree with the notion that the journey matters more. Especially in a tv series. However in a game, where you actively participate in the story (or at least they make you feel like that) the ending has significance. A bad ending can make all your previous efforts feel pointless. "I did all that for this?" ME3's ending is not good, but I've seen worse than that, so while I wasn't thrilled with it at first to say the least, the extended cut at least made it acceptable, and the indoctrination theory turned it great.

If a mediocre game has a bad ending then you don't even got the satisfaction of a good ending. That can elevate an experience, paint it in a better light. Making all your efforts worthwhile.

Fucking scumbags, but we still support them, lmao.

I'm not mocking you, btw. Because I do the same thing!

I've just finished the main campaign of ME2, still have to do Lair of the Shadowbroker, and Arrival, then hopefully I can finish ME3 before the official release next week. I've decided to do a more realistic approach this time, meaning not the usual completionist stuff. Only explored star systems that I visited anyway. Plus I didn't recruit everyone, curious how that will affect ME3.
I would've went for origin access though if the play time wasn't limited to 10 hours. I'd get trough that in a day, and deal with buyers regret for a week.

I might have done a replay of the first 3 games in the months leading up to Andromeda if the new game wasn't a reboot of sorts with no relation to the previous trilogy...

My god the graphics are good......Really into the story not going to say anything....But damn I really do like the jumping and combat.

How well does the game run? I assume good enough that you are not complaining? :p

Why are there only 24 hours a day... that's not nearly enough time to do all the gaming... XD.

If it runs well, might even be a day one for me.

Question, Andromeda is a completely standalone game, and no save import right?

1080p maxed film grain off getting a solid 60fps so far. Using the latest Nvidia drivers (I think Nvidia needs to release game ready drivers).

There is an import option, but not sure what it could import?

But right now the game is running flawlessly on my setup in the sig. Love my 46 inch monitor!

how is exploration and dialogue?...are side missions interesting like Witcher 3 or simple fetch quests?

Not that far in. Getting past The first big story ark. Taking a break for a few. So far i think its good. Now there were 3 optional missions in the first part. But i couldn't even access my inventory yet. So a lot to do still

Again only im in about 90 minutes or so. But I am also a huge ME fan. Eventhough I was not happy with the ending of ME3 I still loved the game and story.

90 minutes isn't far enough in to do a proper evaluation.

pull an all-nighter and play 10 hours straight :D

Well, I've had problems with the game hard locking on me. It's done it twice now. My machine never does that so I don't know what that's about. Probably drivers, but I'm not certain. I'm an hour or so into the game and I'm loving it so far.

From what I understand, neither NVIDIA or AMD have released drivers for MEA yet. Hopefully that will happen soon, which I'd prefer before I start playing it on release.

I agree on the strange behavior- flat out crashed mid-multiplayer mission, but it looks great, plays great (other than my trash weapons), and I'll get used to the difference in engines. This just moves and sounds different, needs a bit more bass.

Have you tried to disable SLI? I had to install the newest Nvidia drivers before it would even let me play.

1 thing I will have to say is....the models fucking suck ass IMO. The Aliens look better than the Humans.....To me the mouth doesn't move properly on humans and some of the human models look like their arms are weird or too long, and some dont even have arm pits... This could be a bug of course since their is no Nvidia drivers, and who knows if there will be a day 1 patch.

Not saying the game sucks, but I expected better human models from Bioware.

Now back to the game.

About three hours in. Here are some quick impressions:

The environments look amazing. It's a very pretty game. Not quite Battlefront level, but still very good. Probably on par with Mirror's Edge Catalyst, only a more full color palate.

Voice acting is decent. Some good voices, some meh voices. Nothing on the level of some of the standout VA in the first three games, but also nothing that's overly distracting and so far I haven't run across any voice that's "Oh that's just that famous actor doing their normal voice". Only one close to that is Natalie Dormer but that's mostly because I knew it going in otherwise I probably wouldn't have caught it right away.

Facial animations are....Not amazing. FemRyder's animation seems better than MaleRyder, but both are really off. Like Brackle said above, the mouths animate weird. The eyes look kind of dead as well. It's not too distracting if you're not focusing on it, but sometimes Bioware likes to cram the camera into the face of a human character and it becomes extremely noticeable.

Don't have much of an opinion on the party yet. None of them jump out as instantly recognizable or likable like the cast of the trilogy did, that that could change in time. Some of the side characters seem interesting so far though and they've avoided them just being carbon-copies of what we saw in the trilogy.

Combat is fun. Reminds me a lot of ME3, though I think the gun-play feels a little better here. Haven't tried MP yet, but so far I like what I've played of the single-player. Haven't had a chance to mess around with the class system yet.

No real opinion on the story yet. Too early in, but they have planted some interesting seeds. I'm certainly interested in where the story will go and how Ryder will shape things.

The writing has been mixed so far. Some works, some doesn't. For the most part it's okay. Nothing has jumped out as horribly bad so far but at the same time it's nothing amazing either. About on par with what you'd expect from modern video game writing.
