1080ti Pre-order, Retail, and AIB availability watch

My direct from eVGA via Best Buy one will be here Friday. My MSI one from Amazon still doesn't have a ship date. Anyone gotten theirs from BB and gotten a game redemption code?

My 2 cards from bestbuy directly from EVGA was supposed to be here today but UPS emailed me and said because of the weather they was a delay so I guess tomorrow. Makes no difference to me since I can't install them until sunday anyway. NO game codes from bestbuy. I assume I'll have to register with EVGA both cards and then jump through their hoops to get the 2 codes I'm owed. We're apparently supposed to get the codes from bestbuy. Was reading evga promotion page. Just called bestbuy and supposedly I'm going to get the codes emailed today. I will be shocked if that actually happens though.

Holy shit I'm in shock bestbuy actually emailed me two codes with instructions. I'm seriously surprised that they not only actually sent it like they said they would but also at how fast.

Well, after reading the techpowerup review of the Asus Strix OC model, It looks like I'll have to wait for another AIB card. It's triple slot, thus will not fit in my Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX case :(

What number did you call?

Card and like 4 other things supposed to be here today, but storm obviously wrecked it all up. Funny enough looks like the west coast things will be on time. Don't care as long as it all gets here by friday night.

Got an email a little while ago from Amazon stating the order they let me place ahead of stock for the MSI model is expected to arrive on 3/23 so next Thursday. Not too bad if it happens.

Not bad. I bet by this time next week retail availability will loosen up big time.

Canceled my EVGA backorder from Newegg and just got the MSI 1080Ti from B&H just now with next day shipping. My waterblock arrives today and I got antsy. :p

Just did the same, except cancelled my Amazon order. Then got an email from B&H stating they screwed up and didn't have stock, so I'm screwed until regular stock arrives.. :p

edit: got a Gigabyte 1080 Ti FE from Newegg! Whoo!

Just got an email from NE saying my Asus backorder is not expected for another 2-3 weeks. Anyone else get that?

just like with the 1080's clocks will be the same, regardless of power config or PCB. However, the more advanced cooling solutions will keep the card cooler, so that max overclock will be sustained for the long duration of gaming. Example after about 1/2 the founders edition will be around 89c, and may trottle the clock from say 2000 to 1900, where an aftermarket card will still be sitting pretty at around 81c and keep the card at a full 2000. Now obviously that may change with cut scenes and loading screens and such, but less chance of it dropping with better cooling is all.

i have an EVGA 1080TI FE on reserve, and will be upgrading from a EVGA FTW 1080. will probably eventually go for a custom card, and sell the FE

for an OC its like 1 fps more than the founders edition?
They even got less of an overclock with higher voltage and better cooling.
Not seeing the value with this card apart from being 6dB quieter.
But it ends up over £100 extra when you can get the Accelero cooler for less than 1/2 that, and not risk getting a lower binned card.
ie cards with better coolers can get away with using lower binned chips because the better cooling masks it.

Interesting theory about binning, but they're not binning chips, and certainly not sticking lower-binned chips into their flagship AIB card. The value of the card, besides quieter, is also better I/O - particularly for VR headset owners, since its got 2 x HDMI (and a DVI-D) which are all absent on FE.

Yes this is true.

Got an order confirmation for my EVGA 1080 ti from Newegg one minute ago. Had been on preorder.

OOS everywhere in the UK.
Did you try Ebuyer?
A friend bought one Monday. He said the website had a note saying they expected stock this Friday.
His card was charged Tuesday and it shipped yesterday as well.
Worth a try, you can always cancel if you are left hanging.

You'd have a point if that was the only benefit. It's also going to be a LOT quieter, while maintaining it's boost clock. So that 1 fps difference turns into at least 5 after a few minutes. All while running cooler and quieter.

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_1080_Ti_Strix_OC/32.html

Stock vs Stock, there's a >10 FPS advantage in BF3 that increases to 28 fps once you further OC the Strix card.

It has less of an overclock than the FE card they tested.
As mention earlier it has 2 HDMI ports.

Well good news... I have a card in-hand! My shipment direct from Nvidia arrived today.

Unfortunately, this will be sent right back to Nvidia tomorrow. I already have an EVGA 1080 Ti coming from Newegg tomorrow for $40.00 less, and I don't need two cards.

Yes, Which is why i'm waiting for the ROG Strix or FTW3 cards from evga. My point was to show that overclocking isn't necessarily a 1fps advantage and short of running furmark continuously, most AIB cards will maintain full boost all day with the default fan profile. The same cannot be said with the FE cards

15C cooler while producing roughly 25% of the noise level is nothing to sneeze at.

I agree.
Its cheaper and probably quieter to fit an Accelero Xtreme cooler to an FE, at max fan they are a whisper.
Thats the angle I'm following, nearly all my cards have had one since my 8800GT.
And I can have one now.

Oh good grief it's only 13 mhz difference and that is just the max peak overclock. What you seem to be missing is that the non reference cards will hold their higher boosts clock longer while still being much quieter and cooler running.

You missed the point.
You wait longer, pay a lot more, have a better cooler and a card that uses higher voltage.
But its not even as good performer as a stock FE they tested.

You can buy an FE "now" with an Accelero Xtreme cooler, pay less and get all the benefits.

It is a better performer so you're making no sense at all. It performs better out of the box and if you overclock both it's going to hold its clocks more than the reference card can. Why are you having trouble understanding this simple concept?

I added to my post.

So, I ordered a 1080ti from nVidia around 2pm today. Just got the email that it has shipped.

And since I paid for overnight (it wasn't that much more) it will be here before 1030am.

That's pretty damn good service considering !

UPDATE: Card came in at 0830 this morning.

Removed and scrubbed all the AMD stuff and installed card in about 15 min.

Quick test with 3DMark Time Spy:

290x vs 1080ti

Overall Score: 4113 vs 7800

Graphics Test 1: 27.27 vs 56.77

Graphics Test 2: 21.77 vs 50.19

CPU Test: 5190/17.44 vs 4861/16.33 (Don't ask me why it went down :))

Enjoy!

Yeah, I was trying to order from Newegg but you couldn't order 2 cards on any I saw so I just got two from nVidia this morning. I'd noticed the last couple of days that they get stock on their site around 9 AM EDT. So sure enough I start checking around 8 this morning and just a bit after 9 stock shows up and you can order 2 from nVidia. Just got my shipping notice for overnight AM delivery so in addition to the NCAA tournament I'll have some additional entertainment this weekend.

Anyone know where there are some 1080 Ti SLI benchmarks? Thanks!

I used to go that route way back when, but with cards now costing me a minimum of $500-$700 I'm reluctant to do any mods as I don't want to chance the warranty being voided. Combine that with the lowered value of a modified card when trying to sell it a couple years later and the cost of buying a 3rd party cooler, the additional $50-$100 up front for an AIB card ends up looking like bargain IMO. That's before we even factor in the time and effort of installation.

Yeah, just chucked an order in for 2x EVGA FE cards. Let's see what happens. If the wait gets silly I will look elsewhere.

Have ordered one of the HB SLI Bridges from Nvidia directly too. Roll on 4k sweetness!
