mm the price of the 1400 is so nice... board, cpu, and ram for around 300 bucks will be hard to beat.

The R5 1600 is what I'm interested in for my main PC. I expect it to OC to 1600X speeds as the 1700 does to the 1700X, for only $219.

That 1600x sure makes the 1800x looks expensive. 2x the price for 2 more cores, 4 more threads...

It sure looks like the sweet spot as well. You could go 4/8 for $189, or pay ~ 33% more and get +50% cores/threads & higher clocks as well.

Still beats Intel pricing structure. You can go 4/8 for $300, or 6/12 for $600, or 8/16 for $1000, or 10/20 for $1500.... Lol.

the question will be , is that 4 core parts exactly half the die size of the 7 series , if not could it be tricked to be an 8 core cpu

Seeing as how the R7 series offered regressive gaming performance for existing Intel owners, I can't see how the R5's will fare better.

the low end of their R5 lineup pits them squarely against i3's and a couple i5's in pricing. So lets see this indeed.

They won't. But a 6 core at $250 will be pretty useful for some, nonetheless.

Gamers would be better served with the super cheap quad, OC'd to 4.0. A good budget rig, maybe. And I wonder if the 4 core will actually be faster. If it is one CCX only, we might see less latency issues and, paradoxically, higher gaming performance.

i wouldn't expect these to OC beyond the R7, i expect them to hit the same wall. 50mhz XFR? when was the last time 50mhz mattered?

This R5 CPU info doesn't jive with the info at launch, guess they updated some of it. Last table I had there was: R5 1600X, R5 1500, R5 1400X, R5 1300.

You need to consider that they are looking to capitalize on people itching to jump onboard. They'll release these lower end, cheaper models, in a few months. As far as what is being reported, the Ryzens are sampling really high, so in all likelihood they are having to intentionally cripple these chips in order to fill in these other segments, and as such means taking a loss.

As far as being able to unlock 6 cores, I have a feeling they are going to laser cut the Cores, but leave the Cache intact. They won't want to have another situation where you can buy a 1600X chip for $100 less than the cheapest 8C (I thought the 1700 was $329?) and then make it into the $250 more expensive 1800X model. AMD wants to gain market share and get into as many systems as possible, but they don't want to do it stupidly. It's been so long, but I don't recall there being this much of a pricing differential between PhII X3 and X4. (The X4 model that could turn into an X6 were OEM-only chips so one can't really factor those into this.) They no doubt only kept that up due to the system being in place to perform what was needed, and with the margin so little (and it being a lottery) was not sufficient enough to merit devising something new -- or even setting up new, likely expensive, hardware added to the manufacturing line to do what would've been needed. heh I'll be the first person who is excited to be wrong, though!

The Table that included R5 1300, was entirely based on rumor IIRC.

this thread was first so I'm posting it here
Su pimps the R5s
1600x doing the blender test in ~32s
faster ram = better

your welcome for the vid post...

I think I'm in for the 1500X. I have an old HTPC w/ an FX-4100 and it's in need of some love.

So the old pre launch 1500 is now a 1600 and its $219, can't really bitch about that, add $99-$109 for a B350 name brand board and presto.

Well, give me a mITX mobo and a 4c-8t CPU and i'll gladly replace my old C2D PCs laying around.

Yeah, my Ryzen replaced a Core2Duo E8400 machine that has been sitting here for years. The chip is so old it's not even worth trying to eBay. Kind of sad just chucking it, though.

My parents are still rocking those E8400's. Old HP machines from a work clearance. I maxed the RAM to 8 GB DDR2 (who uses that anymore?) and added a HD 7750 LP to them. But yeah, recently they've started complaining about performance, so either get a 4c/8t Ryzen 5, or wait for dirt cheap 4c/4t Ryzen 3 CPUs.

Wow! With the dearth of RyZen motherboards AMD is going to launch the lower end CPUs - this is going to be fun :D

I may just put my I7 6700K and mobo up for sell on Ebay and get one of 6 core versions or the 1700. My 1700X just outright blows away the I7 6700K in everything except maybe low resolution gaming (who the hell does that here?) but not limited there anyways since only a Nano which any of the Ryzen processors would not have an issue feeding.

I have an older HTPC with an FX-4100 that didn't age too well. Not that I ever really use that PC, but it's a good excuse to get a Ryzen 5.

I have 2 PC's I'd put the 1500 in, but AMD needs to do something about their craptastic motherboard situation.

Yeah, this time I don't think I will pre-order. I'd like to at least see some reviews and decide. Currently eyeing the the 1500X but I could go for the 1600 as well if reviews show it's worth it.

I hope, given another month, mobo stock and updated BIOS will be in effect as well as better or more compatible RAM.
