Mass Effect: Andromeda

even though the 'Recommended' specs continue to say that a GTX 970 is enough I'm still worried that it won't be...I currently have a 970 and am thinking about upgrading to a 1070 for Andromeda...is that overkill at 1920 x 1200 with all settings maxed out (with AA 4X)?

Hard to know for ME:A, but for other modern games it is not overkill. Especially if you want 60 frame rates. In fact it is necessary for an average 60 frame rates for many games, even with lower AA levels. Mirror's Edge Catalyst looked like garbage unless you turned on resolution scaling (how it handled jaggies), and when doing that it brought my GTX 970 to its knees. The 1070 ran it at a good 60 frame rates if I recall, and that is Frostbite. Likely a different build, but Catalyst ran a lot worse than BF1 for me. Keep that in mind for ME:A.

Then if we're talking about other games like Rise of The Tomb Raider and DE:MD, you really need the 1070.

In multiplayer you would sometimes jump into cover at a door, and when I try to get out of cover, it just jumps you to the other side of the door. Back and forth I would dance for my pretty banshees.... They never approved. :(
I never had that issue in the PC version. On the Xbox 360 that is usually the result of bad pots in the joystick, which was a common occurrence with 360 controllers.

I'm on PC, it's a probable pebkac / non-leet situation.

I dunno. My 2500k w 16gb sys ram and a zotac 980 amp at a pretty standard oc can run bf1 at very high fps w decent settings in multiplayer and ultra in sp. Average is over 100. I would like to think that my system is still OK for this game at 1080p and 60 fps.

Multiplayer games are built to be fast. The maps are likely much smaller than any of the open world areas in Mass Effect Andromeda. Their performance is likely not comparable despite using the same engine.

Well people view the original trilogy as one giant epic (sort of like one big game) so I doubt Andromeda will compare to that.

When can we play this? I know the 21st but isn't there an early thing with the origin service?

Found it the game will be available on EA / Origin Access on March 16.

Day 1 purchase and overall the game looks great but I'm getting resigned to the fact that this game will have terrible facial animations and lip synching...check out this IGN video...:37 second mark- note the blank expression on Ryder and stiff hand gesture...not to mention the bad facial animations of the characters...

how can L.A. Noire from 6 years ago advance facial animation/lip synching and yet we seem to have gone backwards since

I suspect that most people here will have very few issues getting that at minimum. Our experiences with the graphics should have a good average of quality unless there's major bugs.

16GB of RAM?!?!? Seems a bit much... I'd be surprised if the game actually uses 16 GB of RAM.

Since its using Frostbyte Engine, I'm thinking the game will be well optimized. Better than anything Ubisoft has been putting out lately.

16gb is the rec sys spec. I just upgraded for this reason. That and I needed too. Seeing more than 8 gb usage in games like bf1 already. Ddr3 16gb kits are a hot commodity on the fs here. I need to put my old 8 GB kit up soon.

Yeah, that looks atrocious. I don't recall it being as bad in any previous frostbite game released in the last couple of years.

imo what made mass effect good was the world building and is one of the reasons i enjoyed the first the most and me3 the least because by then all that was left were some cringe worthy characters and terrible writing.

I think this ship has sailed for me as i already know what to expect. They should have gone with a new ip entirely instead of revisiting ME again.

well, it really is a new story, it happens between 2/3 before the colored explosions, in a different galaxy. My main hope is that when this series concludes they don't fuck up the ending with the lazy shit like they did in 3.

You and me both. In fairness, I don't think EAOWare will do that this time. They got way too much flak about ME3's ending to do that shit again. This isn't to say that we'd all be satisfied with the creative direction of the series' end but we sure as fuck won't end up with an ending only some wannabe intellectual, Starbucks slurping, fedora wearing, Volkswagen driving, metrosexual, hipster cock hound can appreciate.

I have 32GB so I wasn't even looking at that part of the recommended specs.

My understanding is that the new series is not a trilogy, and will be more or less self contained games. So as soon as it sucks or stops selling, they will put a hold on the series. Like Medal of Honor.

If I remember correctly DA:I demanded a lot of ram as well. Same engine, same large worlds to handle, so this is not unexpected. Also I think 16GB of ram is kind of normal for now I've had 16GB of ram for 4 years now.

anyone pay for that EA Early Access thing where you get to play Andromeda 5 days early?...sounds like a ripoff because there's a 10 hour time limit and players won't be able to progress after reaching a certain point

I did- family coming in to town that weekend. The 10 hours is all I will likely see until April.

so you get to play starting this Thursday...isn't it going to be frustrating playing 10 hours and then taking a long break and not playing again until your family leaves in April?

Better to have played and left then not to have played at all? ;)

That's my thought. I love my Mom-in-Law more than anything, but having them all in my house for two weeks is going to occupy all of my time (Sis-in-Law is a drama queen), and I will get Thursday night / Friday morning to have fun first. Funny thing is, Janice (MiL) didn't understand gaming or Sci-Fi at all, but after a year working out of my house saw ME2 and Dollhouse/Sanctuary/SG: Universe and loves all that now. Well, loves watching the games; she can't wrap her head around the movement and combat, and decided ME2 was a movie where the lead actually listened. It's so adorable... Words fail me. I did a playthrough as her combat operative / driver, and she chose everything else. I really should have documented it. :)

That's a pretty good idea TBH.

If I get into the single player and can only play 10 hours, I'd probably look like a junkie in the corner who can't get my fix. It might make the wait time until the actual release pretty painful.

Well I hoped to have a new build done by the time Andromeda launched, hopefully it runs good on my ancient outdated grandpa rig.

Do you only get to play if you pre-ordered the game trough origin, or you can play even if you don't own the game yet?
Then the bigger question becomes do you get to continue the game you started when the game gets released?

generally it will be the full game, and save game files should work the way you would expect.

the $4.99 Early Access monthly fee pretty much cancels out the 10% you save for buying the full game...I think Early Access would be a much better value if they let you play the full game with no restrictions 5 days early...as it is you can only play 10 hours and once you reach a certain point you cannot progress any further...I guess people can use EA Access as a demo to see if they like games before buying

and im going on a vaca for my kids spring break this upcoming wknd. dammit! :D

Nah I already pre-ordered the game, and for much less than what they're offering it for.
