I saw someone write this and I don't believe them but they said if you own a switch you can play Wii games for free...

From what I've read, the Switch's online service WILL have free games at times, but the caveat is that the Switch does not support Wii/Wii-U games. Someone correct me though.

While I haven't purchased one (for many reasons detailed in the official thread) yet, my research into the matter shows the above. I'm sure someone else can chime in.

You definitely can't right now. Maybe once they get their online service up and running or something, but right now you can only play Switch cartridges or the same games downloaded via the Nintendo eShop.
I'm hopeful that we'll eventually be able to play Smash 4, though. Hell, I'd buy a deluxe version of the game kinda like what they're doing with Mario Kart 8.

I don't have a Wii or Wii u can you tell me what's offered on the estore and act prices. Do they have nes or SNES games ported for at least 720p or widescreen tvs? Put a n64 on a 1080p the other day and yeash...

I'm hoping to find some cheap game cube games or even buy a Wii or something. Found out the gf likes video games but we don't have a lot of money so frugal fun

I'll need to look more carefully, but I don't think the eStore has anything but Switch games at retail price at the moment.

Didn't the Wii have access to buying old games? Or can you run an emulator on it?

Both. You could purchase older games (like N64 titles) in the eShop and you could homebrew the hell out of it to run nearly anything.
The Switch store isn't fleshed out like that yet. It's supposedly incoming in the near future, but this is one of those things they clearly rushed out the door to make the 3/3 release.

Are the games you buy on the Wii like n64 look like they are meant for a widescreen tv? I found even changing the TV mode with a real n64 the games looked kinda crappy.

I doubt the switch would be able to run any Wii U games without being redone for the switch. It is not much more power then a Wii U and it is a. Completely different architecture then the Wii U. Wii could be possible.

Setup a raspberry pi and get some USB controllers. You can thank me later.

I have never found an emulator that has been plug and play with controllers that wasn't a huge pain. Know of any?

For Windows I find Project64, Nestopia, and Dolphin work great with the Xbox (360 or One) wireless controllers and PS4 Bluetooth adapter. You have to map the controllers when you first run the emu, but after that you're good to go. The same inputs work for every game. Final Burn Alpha is wonderful for Capcom and SNK arcade games. You have to map each game's inputs individually, but if you only play 4-5 different games it's not that huge of a deal.

If you want to play Gamcube/Wii/WiiU games you are best off buying a WiiU and hacking the vWii mode. The console itself can run gamecube iso's out of the hacked vWii, it just can't read gamecube discs. But w/ hacked vWii you can play both Gamecube/Wii ISO's, and then purchase the few WiiU games you might want. It's the main reason I'm hanging onto my WiiU. Being able to play 3 generations worth of Nintendo games without emulation is pretty nice.
