Nvidia announces GeForce GTX Gaming Celebration event, Feb 28th

Well it took them longer than a few, but still I have even stronger buyer's remorse now. Will definitely stick to x70 from now on.

I bought the 1070s because I felt the 1080s were a screw job just like Maxwell. The GTX 980 was quickly forgotten.
The Ti is priced the same as the x80 and equal to or faster the Titan for the second gen in a row. Those who wait are rewarded.

OK. Time to consume enough free food and drinks to make up for the gtx 970s.

I bought the Maxwell Titan X's. A pair of them in fact. Had I known the 980Ti's were right around the corner I would have waited. Similarly, I didn't feel as though the GTX 1080 was enough of an upgrade to justify them. I would probably have grabbed the Pascal Titan X's but the prices shot up over the last generation far more than I wanted to pay.

Not really. In a year the ti will be same as x70 card from next lineup for half of the price, so waiting is not that rewarding.

you pay for the time you are playing games, that's what really reward the wait or not wait... the early you buy a card the early that money translate straight into more game time specially with top cards even more yet with Nvidia which have no competition, how exactly rewarded AMD to their fans with their RX 480?. you see?.

Not really. It really all depends on when you upgrade. I upgrade every generational leap, and it's worked out just fine. My upgrade from a 980 -> 1080 was perfect, and fit quite well with my move from a 1080p -> 1440p 144hz display along w/ the doubling of VRAM.

At any other time I'd agree with you 100%... but gaming has been shit for the last couple years. My main rig just sits in the office looking pretty and streaming media to my HTPC for the last 3 months :(

$699. Nice! Was really expecting $799 for the 1080Ti. They are really turning the screws on AMD... Vega will be hard pressed to match this. An OC'ed 1080Ti is roughly the equivalent of an OC'ed Titan XP, save for 1gb less VRAM.

This probably got overlooked, but he mentioned Async Compute being used in GameWorks DX12 on Pascal. Just wanted to make sure that gets put out there.

Was saying this a while back, they were working on it, also new profiling software that helps with LLAPI's sounds like its specific for nV hardware.

I bought a pascal Titan X shortly after launch. I knew this day would come, but I expected at least a $799 price for the Ti. That being said, I've had many months with my card and it's been fantastic. Overclock on core about 200MHz and memory to nearly 11GhZ. Overall, not too upset with myself for buying early this round. This Titan X will last me at least as long as a Ti would have.

And yes, I'm justifying.... ;)

If Vega's performance numbers are anything like AMD has shown so far, nV just shat in Vega's box of chocolates.

Even with the 1070, 980Ti owners still didn't have a reason to "side-grade". The 980Ti was still faster OC vs OC at launch.
You can rock a 980Ti OC for another year if you want and still have current gen performance. This Ti will also have long legs.

Pretty sexy. Now let's see about availability and what the reviewers have to say.

Nvidia's aggressive pricing on the 1080ti shows me that they know Vega is the real deal and are a bit scared

Look how many people in various threads have said they are upgrading to 1080 TI. If Nvidia were scared, they would have released 1080 TI months ago to capture even more sales. No, Nvidia is not scared. This release was calculated just like the 980 TI release was.

At 700 bucks its not that they are afraid, they know they can get that much money. The price drop of the gtx 1080, that is what is going to force AMD's hand with Vega, its going to hurt them, badly.

I obviously don't remember the exact dates, and too lazy to google them, but the Maxwell TI came out far too quick against their Titan X, whereas the Pascal has given me enough time that I don't mind the purchase. This looks good for those who were patient, but I can live with my slower Titan XP:)

Same! Have had my Titan XP watercooled/OC'ed since August of last year (GPU running @ 2.1Ghz since day 1). So, the 1080Ti with a hearty OC will be in the same ballpark for $700. I've been enjoying that level of performance for the last 7 months though, so no regrets here! :D

For those of you holding back with 980Ti's, get your wallets out and ready for a thrashing...

FTFY.

Looks like you might finally get your wish! (please dont insult us with a denial ;))

Gotta say I am impressed with the 1080Ti and with NVidia dropping the prices of the 1080. This is definitely good for the consumer. I will be keeping my 1080s and waiting for the next gen cards, still nice to see they are keeping the Ti competitive.

You can probably still sell it on eBay for at least 900+ before everyone realizes the 1080 Ti is coming.
I will wait and see what reviews say, but blowing $300 for a 5% increase seems stupid. Besides I still have 1 extra GB of VRAM ;)

There is no need to drop the gtx 1080 price point at all. Think about it, they could easily have priced the Ti at 800 bucks Also new SKU's of the 1080 and 1060 with higher frequency memory, kinda telling, nV is prepping for competition in those two areas. So updated Polaris and Vega.

I agree with you. Is anyone stupid enough to think nvidia is dropping prices on sheer benevolence?

Im talking about your wish that AMD is hurt badly.

Disagree to some extent. I think the 1080 price drop is to go after Vega, and the Ti pricing has more to do with forcing AMD price Vega lower. Think about it if AMD is expecting a 899 Ti and a 799 1080 they price Vega at 699 knowing it is a little better then a 1080 now they are fucked and will have to take a margin cut to keep a Vega now priced at 499 to 599.

Just curious if Nvidia mentioned that step-up geforce program for 980ti owners?

Whelp...I did get some good VR use out of this 1080 up until now, but another $200 price drop like this means I probably won't be buying a xx80 product again. I'd be even more pissed if I bought a Titan XP, if nVidia Ti performance figures are to be believed.

Well I mean you guys knew there would be a 1080ti coming out. It's been like that for what 4 generations now? It's almost been 1 year since the 1080 GTX came out.

I'm pretty sure the only time they pulled a 980 Ti before this was, well... the 980 Ti. Kind of figured maybe they would have learned from that but I guess without competition, no need to.

You forgot about the 780 and 780ti fiasco? That was pretty bad.

I want to wait for Vega as I like the direction AMD is headed with their focus on Vulkan but if the 1080 or 1070 drops to a good price I might bite...plus I don't see any games coming out that have any insane requirements (I also still only game at 1200p)

This... Buying high end cards is pointless.. They lose there value in like 6-8months.. Nvidia will release a 1170 for 400-450$ and it will be faster then 1080Ti and TitanXP. And it wont be that long of wait since they release one every year or so.

I have gotten in the cycle of selling my old 70s cards off.. and buying new ones. My 1070 only cost me like 220$ :/

I'd rather see them do this than do what intel has been doing for nearly a decade.

Well all the new RyZen soon to be owners now has a perfect graphics card to push with those 8 cores - 1080Ti - Nvidia is indeed smart!

Well, if you buy a 1080Ti now you'd have essentially a perfect 1070 SLI in 1 card, all the performance (75% scaling and no driver headaches), and you'll be able to enjoy that level of performance for a year or more, 2-3 if you are waiting for a new Ti part. So a little over $150 saved a year, or a little over $12 a month.

Will I be able to trade two 1070s in for that 1080Ti? ;)
