Ryzen single threaded performance

If you guys can predict the future, which Ryzen will have the highest single threaded performance?

Assuming that any Ryzen among [H] readers would be overclocked, I am referring not the published frequencies, but which one would be fastest once overclocked.

Would it be also a safe bet to assume that a Kaby Lake Intel i5 or i7 will still be faster in single threaded performance?

I am waiting for the [H]review, and even if Ryzen has a "small" disadvantage compared to Kaby Lake on single threaded performance, I will probably still go with Ryzen for my next gaming build.

all Ryzen's should have the same single threaded performance, when you start looking at clock speed and single threaded performance then which ever one can clock the highest.

So clock for clock Intel should still be in the lead with single threaded performance, but Ryzen isn't about just that, its multithreaded performance is quite a bit higher than Intel, and newer games will need that too. And it will show up.

If it's like Intel the 4 core CPUs should overclock about 15% higher then the 8 core models. This could make an overclocked 1500 the fastest CPU for most games.

Here is to hoping that Kyle releases a review tonight at midnight EST haha when the NDA lifts (At least I think that is when it lifts). All or most of our questions will be answered.

I'm wondering if the 6 and 4 core are not releasing until later because gamers if given the choice wouldn't go 8 core.

That was what I was thinking, ie that maybe 4 and 6 cores might overclock higher.

I already have all the multi-threaded performance I need. Now I am looking for raw speed and single threads.

I bet it is more due to binning and establishing brand recognition than anything else.

Yeah I think they aren't doing 4 and 6 yet due to binning and modifying cores that failed to yield all 8 cores. I'd be interested to see if there is more steppings of the 4/6 cores than the 8's by a margin

I'm hoping it's possible to disable cores in the bios, and even specific cores, which would make going for a 1700X/1800X much more appealing in regard to achieving maximum possible frequency.

Whether or not this is possible really is the key decider for me.

Well thats a bunch of bullshit. People that Preordered, paid, and will have to return if it doesnt pan out. What kind of bad bullshit marketing is this?

I'll definitely be canceling the preorders I have for stores with difficult policies. Edit: Done!

That's why you don't preorder, or preorder from a place that doesn't require a card to hold such as MicroCenter.

Yep, when we arrive at Microcenter and these chips are duds, we will have some discounted intel chips. :)

Well today is not over yet, plus who said it can't be on the 1st? Just wait and see it looks like.

Personally I'd never make a large purchase without doing my research (i.e. reviews). I rarely even preorder games anymore until reviews come out and those are only $60.

I tend to think games are a different beast with a proven track record of being shit on release day. I wouldn't take a free game on release day. I would rather wait a month for all of the 0 day "oh crap we missed this" patches. Because getting in on release day on some games "No Man's sky" is a freaking mistake. If I would have waited until the content patching was done I wouldn't have tried to get a refund (and failed mind you.) on that game.

AMD chips, starting with the original Phenom, have had their own particular track record. Just saying.

it's feb 28. where are the reviews?

they scared people will cancel preorders if reviews are out 2 days early?

To be fair you are running on an i7 7700 already. The likelyhood of you jumping to an new AMD chip is little to none as you have a very recent purchase yourself. And I wouldn't blame you.

But I was also a guy who built a brand new 3200+ back in the day for a new windows VISTA build when that came up. I can handle a few bugs. ;)

Well I have Thursday off so I will get first in microcenter to get a board when they open. Not sure if I want mATX or aTX ...

My caselabs th10 is too damn bug these days

Heh, I've started feeling that way, what with my Mountain Mods Extended Ascension CYO. I have the horizontal mobo tray too, so it's not like I can even fit two rigs into it...

Hopefully Intel will give us Skylake X at a reasonable price now, if Ryzen doesn't flop of course. OR AMD gives us Zen+ with features of HEDT Intels and on par IPC.

Duds.Intel chips are expensive duds with inadequate number of cores. Ryzen SMT kicks ass on Intel and single thread is close enough to not be an issue. Stuff your Intel discounts up that dark
wormhole.

Yes I also have Thursday off. Going to MC in the morning. Getting the 1700X & Asus CH6 combo for $30 off. I got everything else from Newegg delivered last week.

Only reason I didn't go with MC is when buying 1.5k in parts I didn't want to drop another 130 in taxes.

You should almost never buy everything from one place like MC. They use CPU and mobos as loss leaders to get people in the door to do just what you are, buying everything else at higher prices to make up for the loss leaders. I almost always find everything cheaper at other places, but I pick up my CPU/mobo from MC as the prices and comb deals beat everything else by a long shot. My last build I did pick up RAM as well from MC, as they had the ram for $10 cheaper than anyone else even after taxes, so why not? Everything else ended up being online, every now and again they have good prices or sales on one or other parts of a build, but I price everything out before even getting in the car.

Glad you read all the reviews.
