AMD’s Vega & Ryzen “Capsaicin & Cream” Live Event

I can honestly say that i had an idea they would keep the name Vega. the way he presented it solidified that before the name reveal. I think they should have called it Vega RX but whatever....lol

Really cool presentation. Great to see Kyle on stage.

Very light on any real details though. Mostly a bunch of game demos.

At least we know the name of the VEGA based GPU's will be Vega. Radeon RX Vega. No 590' or anything like that

I kind of wish they had done the same thing with Ryzen, named it after the arch name. Zen is a great name. Ryzen is borderline retarded.

Why they didn't go with pronouncing it "risen" instead of "rye-zen" is beyond me.

Also, Raja probably shouldn't be allowed to speak in public.

You know, he isn't the best public performer, but for some reason the fans really like him.

Maybe it's BECAUSE he isnt a smooth talker, and comes across more like a real human, and less like a marketing smooth talker

Going to be a few years before VR really gets going, no AAA content except maybe RE and very expensive requirements.

because there's a game and movie called Risen and every time you'd search for Risen processors the movie would come up because IMDB has higher search result priority. not really a good marketing idea now is it?

Seeing Kyle there was probably the least expected thing that could have happened, shaking hands with Roy no less, those must have been some interesting conversations.

Turns out Kyle is also a pretty good speaker, probably comes from the fact that he means what he says and doesn't have to filter or otherwise edit it mentally, makes for good sounding presentations.

Judging by his voice and look he'd probably also be a pretty good good-guy turning bad in a game or movie, like, you start out thinking he's the good guy then halfway through it starts dawning that he's up to sinister things, hehe.

So That was the biggest waste of a tech show i have ever seen. At least Nvidia is actually going to launch a product tonight instead of prattle on endlessly with no name indie devs about VR.

Yar, that's what I think so too. He seems like the type of guy that'd be happy to just geek out for hours over PC hardware.

Also, saying 'Ryzen and Vega' together keeps causing me to accidentally say 'Ryzen and Vegan'.

I feel the same...

Regarding Vega's speed, it needs to be at least 30% faster than the standard 1080 to win this generation, but I don't think AMD has that much gas in the tank this time, if they did, I think they would have said something more. I hope I'm wrong, nVidia's cards are getting too expensive these days.
Even if it is 30% it is a year later compared to 1080. That's not a win in anyway. By the time Vega finally hits Volta will be here.

Kyle is definitely a good presenter and public speaker.

Nothing interesting in this whole presentation, waste of damn time.

Just finished watching it, AMD really needs to learn how to end on a bang and to stop talking, not let things fizzle out like this, good God that ending was painful.

It's actually already going if you try a VR headset. Presence or absence of AAA's aren't the yardstick by which you can exclusively measure its progress.

That said, Fallout 4 VR is slated for this year, with DOOM VR to follow. Both will be significant AAA's for VR.

Raja Koduri annoyed me the entire time. He kept saying he was excited but looked like he was watching paint dry. It reminded me of TechCrunch Disrupt on the show Silicon Valley.

I had a deja vu moment there were I thought I was watching the Nintendo Switch presentation.

So I am trying to figure out what are we suposed to be exited about here? VR? Indy Devs? A product we still don't know enough about like a launch date? I mean seriously why do they keep doing these events where they tease products? Show and tell is the way to go.

I was thinking that today was the day the NDA lifted, and was eagerly looking forward to actual information regarding Ryzen. Instead I've got VR demos and useless information. Oh well..

You have to consider the intended audience. It's a "Game Developer's" conference. They are trying to show Game Dev's what they can do in their titles to take advantage of AMD's hardware.

I have to admit, for that audience it was a little bit light on details, and more flashy, but that being said, I get the impression that game dev's don't exactly send their software engineers to these things. They send some know-nothing executive/marketing douche who can then name drop things from the conference he knows nothing about at a later point to feel good about himself.

That's the audience it's mostly intended for. High level, low knowledge, abstract shit so marketing and executive types can feel smug about themselves when they direct their employees to do stuff they already know about from actually reading and following the tech side of things.

I get that, but they also marketed it to the public and people looking to upgrade. They really did not show anying IMO that would make me chose a RX Vega over a gtx 1080 or a GX 10ti. One thing I am curious about is to what extent is this partnership with Bethesda is this going to gimp games on NVIDIA hardware?

Hopefully tonight's show will have a bit more substance. Maybe the real info is being delayed until after Nvidia has theirs.

Or at the very least, maybe Kyle and Roy will get liquored up, start an argument, throw a punch or two, and we'll have good material to discuss in the forums for the next few weeks.

The best part of the video is at the end when Kyle mentions that this AMD release will finally be competitive. Hopefully that will get Intel off its lazy ass and actually do something meaningful with their desktop CPUs. I'm team Intel/Nvidia but this will only benefit all of us.

I hope Kyle thoroughly thrashes Intel with the reviews when the AMD NDA is lifted.
