Cut the crap. It takes all of 30 minutes to check 4 or 5 web sites of cpu cooler makers such as Noctua, Cooler Master, Thermalright, Corsair, Swiftech, Alphacool etc . That is not AMD's responsibility , that is on you. I did my own due diligence for what cooler to choose. It was not a difficult or stressful experience.
Honestly, it wasn't stressful at all. Just a little disappointing. In any case, the Corsair cooler I got seems like it will work fine so all is right. I was just making a point that the situation could have been handled better.

Granted, there are some out there that do already work, and some with adapters already available. I guess I just expected a bit more from such a large launch. Like, I've never seen so many different motherboards available for AMD at a launch like there is here, so I sort of assumed that cooling makers would've been all over this with everything ready as well. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the "AM4" that launched last fall in systems with Carrizo chips was the same bracketry as we're dealing with now, so I find there's really no excuse. :p

Fair enough reason on the cards. nV's DX12 performance in some titles has indeed been peculiar.

And yea, couldn't agree more. Like I could understand having to email them with PoP to get it for free, but as you said, they could've at least offered them for sale as well, or flat out made it clearly known that "We have them, so don't feel left out!" To me, it casts all those who have not made it clearly state, well known, and easily available in a rather negative light. While I don't quite like Corsair's course of action with being kinda blazee about it all, I do understand their ""logic"" behind it since they have compatible products already. For all the other companies I just find it sad.... but oh well. I'm far less pissed off now that I know I have something in my collection that I can strap to it that isn't a factory S939 hunk of aluminum with fins, or one of those deplorable flower style circle jobbers AMD included with the lower end crap. :p I just dropped too much coin already to be able to handle another $70 on an AIO that won't perform much better than what I already have which itself has barely any usage! heh

Once I get my motherboard, that bracket is coming off and I'm going to be fastening it down onto a piece of wood so I have a "template" to fashion my own adapter out of. 90mm x 54mm on AM4 and 96mm x 48mm on AM2/3. I'm hoping it'll be easy. I saw Kyle had the same idea and his seems to have gone well enough. :D (Right Kyle....... Kyle? lol)

Totally unneccesary on some of the high end X370 boards. For instance Asus Crosshair VI Hero has two sets of holes. One for AM4 and one for AM3/3+ . So no AM4 adapter is needed just use the AM3 adapter the cooler ships with.

I went 1700 with asus b350m-a and 16gb corsair 3200 - in part because it comes with a cooler. Not sure if I'll be able to use the full speed of the ram right away but it should be a good 4x more powerful than my current cpu.

I went for the Ryzen 1700 as well (also largely because it came with a cooler - I like to have one handy just in case modding my Koolance block fails for some reason) and the Asus Prime B350-Plus board (I need a PCI slot) and ordered the Corsair DDR4-3000 2x8GB kit that was on sale on Newegg for $104 Wednesday night.

Existing equipment moving over: AMD 290x GPU on Koolance liquid block, Auzentech X-Meridian 7.1 PCI with the expansion daughtercard, Samsung 840 EVO 256G SATA SSD, 2x WD Velociraptor 320GB HDDs (in RAID 0), and (hopefully) my Koolance 380A CPU block, though it looks like I will need to copy Kyle's AM4 "workaround" on it. The 290x and the CPU (and motherboard chipset on the current rig) are on completely separate loops.

This will be replacing an FX-8320 on Asus Mainboard with 16GB (2x8) of DDR3.

*high five* on AMD being back. While on [H] it's not so much the case, but I know a lot of other non-enthusiast places/people have only been in the game long enough to see AMD always being second string to Intel, which wasn't always the case. Athlon 64 was king. The Athlon XP before that, and the Athlon (Classic) before that! :D

Anyways, actual reason for quoting is: If you're waiting for Vega, which is understandable, why oh why would you go Rx 480 when you have two GTX 1080s right now?
Or is this build going to be a separate system and not a replacement for what's in your sig? If so... ignore me lol However, you could save some money by splitting up that 1080 pair for a couple months, running one in each system till Vega arrives.

Personally I have to commend AMD on a decent job with Ryzen launch... except for one glaring issue.... and it's cooler availability/support *shakes head*. It's like the cooler manufacturers didn't get the memo... Unless it was that the AM4 mounting holes weren't 100% set in stone util recently (like within a month). But in all honesty, it seems like a total undersight by AMD no matter how you slice it. They (cooler makers) could've at least gone the route of Corsair with their stock-bracket retention system on their AOI water coolers. Funnily enough the only adapter kits that you CAN get and have on hand when Ryzen arrives, seems to be either Noctua or Cryorig (SP?) made. One being a big name, one not-so-much. Thermalright and EVGA have announced ones, but I can't find them yet (I'm interested in the EVGA one since it is the round-gear style pump like my Tt Water2.0 Pro and am hoping it'll work on it). Corsair has announced too but similarly their kits are who-knows-where, but that's not surprising since they have models on the market with support... so they just want to move units to make money, versus send out free adapters. :\

Oh well... I found one of my aftermarket (lower end) coolers that uses the AMD brackets, so I'll at least be able to use my Ryzen when it comes, until I can fabricate or buy something for one of my other coolers. :p
I also have a ThermalTake TTWater2.0Pro, would like to use it as well if I go AM4 RyZen - sent them a request on if upgrade kit will be available or not. Since I would be looking more at June or later (after they become available again, already high prices are hitting motherboards for preorders :) )

Patiently considering building a RYZEN rig....seems like a great value so far.

I'm thinking...
X300M+R5 1600x+VEGA flavor Nano+M.2. PCI 3.0x4 SSD+ 2x8GB

I hope the VEGA generation of GPUs are priced right and offer many small format card designs.

Love to get an upgrade to the Nano with Vega if that becomes available.

I think he might've intended that more for me, since I sorta started it all and was the one with my panties in a bunch lol

Which if you did mean me... I had been researching AM4 coolers for the last 5 days. While granted that isn't a long time, I didn't really consider it as something that would be in the state it is in. Yes, there are manufacturers who have coolers out, but when Intel revised their mounts a number of years back, it sure seemed like they all jumped to make sure there were mount adapters for all the coolers. :\ I guess that's sorta what has me annoyed.

Nevertheless, I was not aware of that fact about the Hero, and I seriously commend ASUS for doing that! Definitely should've been something they should've added to their slides on the board, which if they did I admittedly missed that part. Would've probably been a bullet point for me on picking the Hero over the Titanium. :p

I agree, there was a bit of "sticker shock" for me when I saw the price on that MSI Titanium! lol But I weighed the fact that my current system had lasted me for 6ish years, and decided I'd go that route again and that $300 would end up well spent. With two m.2 ports I'd have decent speedy SSD upgrade paths, and the u.2 port as an added bonus. On top of that I'd have enough of everything else to tide me over, with dual graphics if I ever decide to go that route again.

Please let me know if Tt responds to you and what they have to say!

I gathered all the back and front mounting hardware from all my heatsinks and I may just be able to get something cobbled together between them all lol The HSF that I do have that will fit is a Scythe Mugen3, but I also have a Prolima Panther that I am hoping might be just as easily modified to fit. We shall see :p

Will do if they respond, it is a very good cooler, if it can cool an OC FX 9590 I am sure it will do fine with a RyZen and OC! I may replace the fans though to something more quiet. If not then I will just buy something new.

The dual M.2 slots I like as well on the MSI board, I have a 1TB NVMe 600P Intel drive on the shelf (also have one in use on SFF system below, great drive) and in my main computer a 850EVO in a converter box hooked up to SATA III connection. I could use both M.2 drives, not sure if I should use the 512gb 850Evo M.2 for the system or the NVMe 1TB drive. Benefits to each way used.

I went with the Samsung 960 Evo M.2 drive for the OS and programs. I didn't realize M.2 technology had advanced so much to 3200 MBps. That's monster.

Originally I was thinking of getting a big SSD for the data/game drive, but the cost didn't seem worth it and I got a 2TB FireCuda drive (SSHD) which seems like a decent compromise and still probably faster than normal HDDs.

Because of how outrageous DDR4 prices have gotten, I haven't even pickup any memory yet.

I am hoping for a deal soon.

The PC3200 CL14 8GBx2 kit I got went up in price $25 two days after I ordered it. Sudden demand from hobbyists preparing for this launch? Who knows.

Also got a 960 EVO on the way. Went and spent the big bucks on a 1TB version. OS and all apps go on there. Static files (music, movies, etc.) will go on my external USB disc. Selling my 1TB 850 EVO will help cut the cost on the 960.

I see several motherboards such as MSI X370, Gigabyte X370, and Biostar X370 support DDR4 3200 according to their specs sheet, but why not Asus ROG Crosshair? For being a premium board that's disappointing. Do you think several of these motherboards will actually support >3200? Should I go for 16gb DDR3200 or spring for some DDR3600 (or DDR4000 LOL) ? I guess I wont know until official reviews before I decide what motherboard and memory to pair with a 1700x which I'll overclock to the MAX! Go big or go home!

I've been waiting too. I just got real lucky - scored 2x4GB of Patriot 3200mhz DDR4 for 46.99 bucks. 5 minutes later it was back to $82. I got so excited I actually gave myself a headache :D I'll be getting an Asus Prime B350-A as it supports up to 3200mhz memory, but I'm waiting for Ryzen 5 (I really don't need the 8C/16T). My FX6300 will soon be retired :)

Does anyone think DDR4 3200 is the fastest that'll work? If the board supports 3200(oc), would 3600 or 4000 work too? Or is what the boards says it supports the fastest possible?

OK, I will take back what I said about the cooler compatibility thing. At least on Newegg, you can now search for "AM4" in the cooler section and it will tag products that are compatible.

AMDCoolers.jpg

I guess they were just a little slow to update the website, because I don't recall this working when I pre-ordered, but it's still technically prior to launch so that's all good.

For coolers, I just always put "AM4" into the main search box. Whether or not that showed them all I am not sure, but it was indeed showing a few. I looked now and there are tons more showing up, so I'm glad that more are entering the stream! Still, these Water2.0 Pro radiators are the double-thick type, and I definitely can't justify spending $65 for that H60

My G.Skill RAM came today, from NewEgg. I just assumed, being as quick as it was, it had came from one of the Tennessee warehouses (I live in eastern TN), but I just looked at the box... lol "City of Industry, CA"
On top of coming across the country, it was via Fed Ex, who when you get to my podunk area, are never in a hurry to deliver it except for exactly when it is slated, even if it's 20miles from me a full day early :|

But anyways... I don't know why I thought it was "Gold" on Black, but it's definitely Yellow... a bright-ass yellow at that. Which made me weep a bit; however, it's just a little plastic piece that clips on so I yanked it off. It actually looks a LOT better now, as there's another row of fins beneath the color accent :D

I do. And if they don't? You haven't lost out because you'll always be able to tighten the timings :) My TridentZ 3200s are Samsung IC and 15-15-15-28. If I can't get 3200 by chance, they'll at least be able to do 3000 14-14-14. However, as it's been said, as time goes on there will be BIOS updates to provide improved support for memory, so I'm sure over time we'll see higher speeds

1800X + MSI Titanium + Samsung 960 Evo 1TB + Gskill 8GBx2 3600 + X62 Cooler. These are the new parts I bought and will throw all that in on the current chassis and setup with a couple more Noctua P14Rs being the only other new thing.

Later I will buy the new Enthoo Elite case and a CM 1200W Titanium PSU, might consider changing the 16GB 3600 to 32GB if what I'm doing calls for it, or if not maybe even faster 16GB if this thing clocks well and can handle it. Considering 2TB 850 Pro to put all my not-so demanding games on, maybe a Intel 600 M2 for the secondary PCI2 slot on the Titanium just for fun. Might even put a decent WiFi card in this time round. Gonna need some rear USB brackets I thinks (non pci) to make up for some of the headers not on the rear of MSI Titanium.

Won't be buying 1080ti until I've seen Vega.

Im considering the 1800X and not really sure either Fatal1ty or Taichi X370...

Anyone got a clue on how tall the boxed 1700 cooler is ?

Maybe I have to go to the 3d printer and lathe and bring out all the tools to make brackets cause I got less than 83 mm to work with in my m-atx case.

Edit: seems like wraith spire at 100+ Millimeters, ohh well, time to fabricate brackets.
Kyle, what is the AM4 bolt pattern ? :)

The Taichi has beefier power phasing than the Fatality. Better for stable overclocking.

I'm doing the trusty "most expensive board without cooling, and just sticking vrm coolers on myself approach" never had a issue with vrm temps :D

Glad to see prelaunch excitement. I'm still gonna wait on NDA lifted reviews. 'Cause.

Sincerely hope all the pre-orders fulfill your hopes.

For the cooling I just recieved my new H110i from Newegg on Friday. Also with the shipment was 16G Corsair Vengence LED, and a Crucial 525GB SSD.

I'm all set now. I'll be heading to Microcenter on Thursday, and get the 1700X & Asus CH6 combo.

One thing I did not like about Micro Center's handling of their preorders is they did not allow pre-ordering of motherboards. I can imagine when I go there Thursday they will be mobbed and not have sufficient Asus ROG Crosshair VI motherboards. If that happens to me I will be pissed. They will definitely hear my squeaky wheel. I called them and told them they are not handling pre-orders correctly if they do not allow motherboard pre-orders. If I walk out without my motherboard I will cancel my preorder and place the motherboard and cpu order with Newegg. There is no cpu discount at Micro Center for Ryzen like they usually have with AMD and Intel plus I have to pay 8.875 sales tax for cpu and motherboard which more than wipes out the $30 off you get with the motherboard purchase. I reserved an 1800X.

Picked a 1700X, Gigabyte AX370 Gaming 5, Noctua D15 with AM4 adapter... since Corsair dragged their feet about AM4 adapters for the H100i V2. Reusing Team Dark 3000MHZ 2x8 C15, Evga Supernova 1300, 980Ti. Holding off on video card until I see what Vega brings to the table.

AM4 motherboards are just weak especially not having full 2 x 16x support for SLI among other things...just unacceptable.

I am going small form factor with a custom water loop for CPU and GPU, but I am waiting on a X300 chipset motherboard to present itself. So far, my build consists of a fractal design core 500 and I will be using a 500 watt gold cert SFX PSU. Also, I am just waiting on reviews next week or so to make a better decision on either a 1700X or 1800X.

He won't stop posting about his ebay 10 core xeon and Asrock x99 system.

Ah, that guy. Well, X99 with a Xeon is a great setup. The problem is that now most of those good and cheap Xeons are gone. People snatched them up fast. The only high core ones I see now are lower clock speed so single threaded performance will not be so good.

I don't know if I'm buying it yet.
If I was though, they are breaking my new rule for the past few years, well they are for the next couple of months anyhow.

No ITX? No sale.

The day I see an ITX board with the VRM of the Titanium, I'll be interested in ITX. Until then, Mo'Power, Mo'plugins. I'm a real sucker for addons.

I am not entirely sure which motherboard to get.

As for memory, I'll probably get the cheapest one. Don't care too much about memory speed at this point.

No one is at this point in time ;) . You choose a very budget oriented build and that might be the wisest approach, if there is hardware that clearly out performs or is a lot better you can always pick that up and sell your previous hardware without to much loss.

Get the Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero. No am4 adapter required for that motherboard as it has hoes for both AM4 and AM3. It is the board with best power phase control and vrms so stable overclocking is easy.

"Best" is a bit strong IMO, Titanium could kill it.... But then the price point is better on the XHair.
