Vizio went totally dark side

I had a 42in 3D Vizio TV until last week. It decided to die on me and I replaced it with a shiny new 55in 4k. I didn't have it joined to wifi or anything and used a Roku / PS3 / Xbox One with it.

Let's be honest. This was/is a budget brand. They could have put a big page in the owners manual that said they would monetize your viewing experience. They could have even put it right there on the box. People would have still bought their big screen TV's at bargain prices.

But hey, the federal government got a million bucks out of it, and New Jersey got $2 million bucks out of it. Now who's monetizing the consumer???

Isn't Apple doing the same thing with the iPhone forcing the wireless carriers to route the data connection through a separate server on networks that is different than the Android devices?

I bought a Vizio 70" a few months ago and noticed almost immediately how much it was chatting out to the internet. I started blocking the outbound traffic on my firewall right after that.

Is Google survey doing the same thing on my phone? Every time I go somewhere and they have a survey for me... the place I recently went to always show up in one of the choices. Of course I lie about it though and pick something else. LOL

No, what Visio was doing was taking your data and attaching it TO YOU. The FTC never allowed that level of data detection and collection.

lol...I don't know why this is bothering me so much. I don't even have a Vizio or any other "smart" TV.

FTC got $1.5m and New Jersey $2.2m.... Well, that'll show them not to fuck with the consumer haha! I'm pretty sure Vizio dropped that bag of change on the table walking out laughing.

I thought spying was criminal in the US. I bet if I did it, I'd get sentenced to life in prison 11 million times
