Wow. TOO much selection.

I want something that will protect it, easy to remove and put on, and has a handle for carrying.

Cost is not the driving factor, but just keep in mind I'm not Donald Trump.

Protection is #1, ease of use is #2.

I don't want some sort of plastic snap on clamshell shit. Ugh....

I got this for my new XPS 15. It's pretty good and can hold a charger, tablet, and phone along with the laptop.

I like that. I may get that for more extensive carrying if it ever comes up. For now I picked this up just so I had some protection for it while travelling between my sisters house and here, etc...

This is what I picked up:

I personally use a sleeve and then put it into a backpack with a padded laptop spot.
I used a hardshell case for about 1 year. First and last time. I hate those things.

The hardshell cases that snap on tend to wreak havoc on the finish of the edges if you ever decide to take them off. Not to mention, the dirt that gets trapped underneath causes you to take it off to clean, thus scratching the fuck out of your laptop.

This was basically my experience with it. I found that a sleeve is more than enough, because once I've set my laptop where it's going to be it's not randomly getting damaged by things.

That's what I've been doing for the longest time, been working well so far. I also don't walk around with the laptop open, or try to do anything one handed, etc. Placing it gently on surfaces, making sure to wipe it down, and using a sleeve will go a long way to keeping anything looking good really.

My favorite sleeve for the MBP is the Booq Viper. It's a slim, semi-rigid sleeve with a magnetic seal. Just slide it in and it snaps shut (i know what you're thinking, you troglodytes! ;)) I have one for my rMBP 13. Sadly, Booq retired this sleeve for all but the 11" Air.
