Picked tghis upo for my son on craigslist he want to try out vr but i dindt wanna spend 500+ to try it out so figured this would at least give him a chance to check it out and see if he likes it. My issue is i cant find any of the software for the dk1 the website only has software for the dk2 if any one has the software and would email it to me or knows a place i can get it from any help would be appreciated

That stuff is going to be a bit difficult to find. Check Google/Reddit for links.

Keep in mind that the DK1 is a very early prototype compared to current VR headsets and is a pretty bad representation of what's available now. A lot of software is going to make you sick (queasy and headaches) due to the capabilities of the hardware and early software before developers understood what does/doesn't work for VR.

Honestly, you would have been better off trying a Google Cardboard headset or GearVR if you have a compatible Samsung phone.

DK1 is a very old development kit and doesn't even have support for positional tracking if I recall correctly. Support for the headset is now very bad and it isn't going to be a good experience due to the limitations of it.

Hopefully you spent like $50 and can shove it on a shelf somewhere as a lesson learned.

Don't be so cheap! It's only money.

I hope you didn't spend much money on it.

yea i picked it up for $80 was hoping to just get it top work with minecraft and maybe youtube videos

A DK2 and you would be in much better shape... Getting the right combination of drivers/software to get a DK1 rig even functional is going to be tough... and the experience will be well below something like a Gear VR could provide. G'luck!

ok puirchased a dk2 on ebay will get back to you all if i need help when it comes in

Hope you didn't blow too much on the DK2 either. It can play some stuff and I believe Minecraft is among those things but it's still quite limited in what you can use.

As others have mentioned it'd probably be better just using a GearVR or Google Cardboard. Having not used a GearVR myself I can't say how much better it is than the DK2 but I stepped up from the DK2 to an Oculus Rift CV1 and HTC Vive and the picture quality of these headsets is just that much better.

Hopefully he found it for less than $100. This is becoming an awfully expensive "trial"

sold the dk1 $125 picked up the dk2 for $199 so still less than half the price of a new one and its for a 7 year old hence why im trying to get it as cheap as i can to make sure he actually likes it. Not really trying to cheap out on it but 2k on his desktop build because i know hes gonna use it and enjoy it another 700 is a big bite to take to try it out nad make sure he gonna get that much enjoyment out of it. If he loves it then yea im gonna buy him the latest and greatest but just testing the waters to start. His first pc was a $300 used core 2 quad machine again just tested waters for him

Man.... when I was 7 y/o, IDGAF anout having the latest tech, let alone whatever the VR equivalent was back then. Does he have an iPhone as well??
