Samsung Battery Factory Catches Fire

One of Samsung's battery factories in China just caught fire. It is confirmed that it is one of the factories that made batteries for the Note 7. Samsung says that it is a small fire but looking at the images, it seems larger. At least it was related to the waste management side of the factory and not the production side. Samsung choosing to move battery production to Japan for the S8 seems like a sound decision. After the Note 7 fiasco, they don't need more exploding battery news. I wonder how much of the $129 million investment in battery safety was spent at this factory?

The dozens of "tweets" from Weibo, with photos of thick black smoke coming out of the plant looked convincing. I also checked in with some friends in China who work in the tech industry, and they too considered the news to be legit. Still, I hesitated to post about it because I didn't want to end up writing a post about a Note 7 battery factory going up in flames without further confirmation... because the story seemed too ridiculous, too good to be true.

Well, that confirmation is here. Bloomberg reported that there was indeed a fire at "plant operated by the affiliate of Samsung Electronics in Tianjin.

I think the joke I will run with is.....

It's not an accidental fire, it's a hidden feature of the plant to keep its workers warm . . .

Or may be....

This is why we can't have nice things. . . Because samsung keeps catching them on fire...

So many jokes.

So we're just all going be basically walking bombs until they figure out a new tech to replace lithium battiers, eh?

Kinda like gasoline in your vehicles' tank with hard lines(nowadays, plastic even) running under your vehicle and into the engine compartment, where some of that is most likely to be rubber lines.?

Pretty sure there are WAY, WAY, WAY more vehicles fires per year than there are cell phone fires.

Just look at the stats on car fires. And is anybody freaking out about that?

The electronics mfgs just need to get off the "make everything as thin as possible" train.

Vehicle fires seem to be more a problem for Ferrari and Lamborghini. If a bunch of Chevy Cruzes or Ford Mustangs caught fire the class action suit would be huge.

Funny, I've never seen a Ferrari or Lamborghini by the side of the road on fire but I have seen quite a few other vehicles on the side of the road on fire. I even saw one today but was going by to fast to try to figure out what it was.. but it was a sedan.

Look at the deaths, injuries and direct property damage caused by vehicle fires in that link I posted. Cell phone problems could NEVER hold a candle to that.

Ferrari could be the Note 7 of cars.

They are too busy mowing people down outside of Cars and Coffee to catch on fire.

That pisses me off on so many levels.

1) All that money is really just courtesy of the West because they were some nomads living in tents that happened to be sitting on the world's most massive oil reserves. Holy Hell! You're welcome!!!

2) They drive like complete and total dirtbags. I have to think happy thoughts and contain my inner rage just when people around me keep changing lanes without a blinker, but if I had to drive behind those guys every day I'd probably join ISIS. Actually, I think I've had an epiphany. Militant Islamism may just be years of pent up road rage.
