I buy games from amazon anyways. 20% off new titles with Prime + 5% cashback on my discover card. Gamestop can suck it.

I rank this up there with the tactics Staples ***allegedly*** uses when you buy a new desktop/laptop: trying to force you into $xxx worth of extras (or whatever Staples calls it).
Usually, the closest that I get to Game Stop is that it's right next door to Wing Stop. I did browse through the store once, and walked away.... not impressed. I do recall a kid or two with a box containing their console game setup and a batch of games being steered by their parent to the Gamestop, and you can tell... the kid is in deep trouble and doesn't want to give up their game.
For the brick and mortar retailers, PC Gaming beyond EA Games, Blizzard, and the el-cheapo games that [H]ardPlayers prefer to play does not exist. OK, there are some minor exceptions, but the retailers don't like the fact that Steam exists as competition to the B&M establishment. It's bad enough when you got folks like me who rarely pay more than $20 per game, and would prefer to wait rather than get the latest release.
The solution is simple. Don't stop at Gamestop.
It's a sucker's game in terms of cost (a console is cheaper, but the prices on games isn't even close if you wait for sales on PC), but in order for it to completely die, companies would have to stop paying off studios to have exclusive contracts, and living room gaming PCs need options that are completely braindead for operation. Maybe some day...lol at anyone still gaming on consoles or buying physical copies of games at a brick and mortar store in 2017. Have these people not heard of Steam (or the many Steam clones like Origin)?
Gamestop is a total anachronism. It reminds me of how Blockbuster lingered on for a few years there towards the end, trying and failing to compete with online options for watching movies and shows.

I actually purchase Steam games from the B&M stores. The disc is usually a single layer disc containing 4.5gb of the needed data. Basically a frisbee to most. Games from Origin are now coming " Download Only " in DVD cases.
No different than used car sales..
That $60 game you bought off the shelf depreciates in half the second you rip the plastic off the case. Turn around and trade it back in , in the future after you've played the game a few months and you are lucky to get $10 value for it.. ..Then, for them to turn around and sell it for $30, $40.. All profit to them.. none of that goes back to the developer, etc...
I'd rather sell my used games on eBay or Craigslist for $5, than to let some scum company flip used games for huge profits..
Even if you buy a physical copy of a PC game, you end up having a massive update on release day anyways. I can't remember the last physical copy PC game I bought. I just remember wasting a lot of time to install like 8 gb of data, then a 15 gb update. Kind of make the physical copy pointless, especially when it ties into some service anyways.

Right to most, it is a waste of time, but sometimes it makes sense if the game is cheaper at the B&M store.. Example is, I bought Fallout 4 from Walmart for $40 with Steam activation. Fallout 4 through the Steam store is still $60. I didn't need the disc since the code was inside but my computer has an optical drive still, so that saved me from downloading 4.5gb of the 30gb download
I got a good deal on my 2nd last Gamestop purchase. 3DS XL for $130, new copy of Pokemon Y ($33 was the cheapest I could find) and it also had a Mario/Luigi game pre-installed. $142 out the door. Not bad, but they made a mistake and I was supposed to get a used DS (not 3DS) game. They made a mistake over the phone when I called about the deal, but actually honored what they told me when I got there.
Last time I went in was some months back for a copy of Zelda. Guys were nice but of course tried to push some other stuff. I just told them I don't want anything, just the game and that was it. Not too hard to be honest.
But the others in line in front of me had some memberships, which were confusing as hell. Part of it ends, the part with the discounts, before the full membership ends. Clearly the guys in front of me were confused as hell to. Why even have a membership if you don't get discounts? But they paid up for that crap for a 10% discount or whatever it was. They could easily just buy online and have it shipped for less than the cost of that membership crap.
TLDR: Go in wanting to buy something, tell them you're not interested in anything else, don't get those membership things and you'll be fine.
