Driving games are friggin' awesome. Unless of course you are like me and hate dragging all the wheel out, clamping it to your desk, getting the pedals set up, then something happens and you need the desk space again, then you have to take the wheel back off, then put it back on, then finally get it all set up and decide you want to watch reruns on Netflix instead. BUT! Even if you are like me, or are [H] enough that you have a dedicated racing PC, you will have to appreciate just how damn good looking Project Cars 2 is.

This looks fantastic. I have tried HTC Vive with Project Cars, and the experience is awesome. But seriously, setting up steering wheels and pedals all over the table on and off was the most annoying part. Still can't find a way around that...

My god. The level of detail just on the track corners is amazing. I wouldn't have any trouble at all clearing desk space for a steering wheel and floor space for the pedals to play Project Cars 2 if it is a good game.

Damn Kyle, get a decent wheel stand! Folds up nice and tight for storage and is better than a clamp either way... but thanks for reminding me I need to sell my G27 that is collecting dust since it was replaced.

And playing project cars without a wheel and pedals is nearly impossible.
Its tricky at first but you get used to the finesse required.
A thumbstick with none or almost no deadzone helps.
Its a hella sight more convenient than a wheel and a lot less tiring!

Setting it up properly is a must and can take time.
In Project Cars with a XB1 pad I set all sensitivity to zero.
You can tell the game to limit how far the wheel turns at higher speed.

Project Cars is my current go to VR game, I play it 1 to 3 hours almost every day.
I havent even tried Dirt Rally on VR yet, am getting my fix already!
Cant wait for PCars V2.

Now with working only on Nvidia hardware action. Or most likely crippling AMD performance.
If AMD bring out a card that performs well, that might change.
Dont mistake lack of power for a game problem.

Did YouTube start compressing video using potatoes? Watched it at 1440p60 and it was super artifacty. Graphics looked good in the game just the video was poorly compressed.

AMD sponsored games usually do far better on AMD hardware. Nvidia sponsored games usually do far better on Nvidia hardware. Guess which side of the fence Project Cars falls in? Not that this shit is good.

"Grand Tour" Quality. I just sold my ECCI setup. Have had it up to here with the pedal and wheels.

I'm glad i'm not the only one that thought this. I turned it to 1080 straight up and it was very.. ugh. So i went up to 1440 and it virtually made no discernible enhancement. Not sure whats up with that.

This game is pretty much worthless with a controller or worse a keyboard.

I think amd cards have enough power, they lack optimizations. I have higher hopes for project cars 2 because its suppose to be on DX12. My AMD Fury plays project cars 1 great on 2560x1080 but no where good enough for oculus vr

Been playing this for some time now, got in on the early access support for £100 a while back.

Stunning game when played on a monitor. In VR it's still visually trash, as was PC1 at this point in development, with texture glitches and inconsistent shadows between each eye. However... the audio is fantastic. By far the best racing audio I've heard which makes up for all the other issues in VR.

I've had plenty of 'oh shit' moments when I can clearly hear someone come up behind me when I've (as usual) taken a bad line through a corner. They've slightly exaggerated some of the car sounds, such as backfiring and gravel pinging around when you go off course, but it does help pull you into the heat of the action.

For performance, this is actually playing great with a 980 (SLI isn't quite there yet) in VR. For a beta product still ages away from launch, I'm impressed with it.

I hope they make the AI better. I bought Project Cars 1 specifically to use with the oculus rift and it works awesome but the AI is completely insane. My first match in, I'm driving and the AI crashes into eachother so bad that a car goes flying over my head. Amazing first experience for VR racing but a generally bad experience for racing in general.

I've had a TrackIR for years and use it for racing & flight sims (heck even ARMA games.) It definitely made a difference for me in racing games, just being able to look into the apex really helped give it some depth. I haven't tried VR, but I imagine it's a huge jump in that same direction as you actually do get depth of field by nature of the tech.

My i5, 1070, and Vive VR is waiting! the first one is very cool, can't wait!

I'm beyond the point of caring about graphics in a racing game. In fact at least 10 years over that shit.

What matters is:

  1. Physics
  2. AI
  3. Career mode

Project cars 1 only got one of these three right. So I'm not impressed by their flashy graphics. I'll have to see how the racing is.
