Wanted to ask if anyone has had break out cables not work with their raid card?

I have a LSI 9240-8i, it was in a Chen. case with a back plane, that works great, all ports, all 8 pick up drives and can be configure for raid. Latest firmware all updated and ready to go.

I now change the card to use some break outs as i moved the card to a dual 2011v2 board.

SFF-8087 to 4X SAS/SATA Reverse Breakout Cable

Now I presume SFF-8087 is SFF-8087 and even though they are labeled from Norco they should work (not like Norco makes raid cards)

How ever they don't. I bought 2 of them and none of the 8 connections pick up any drives on them.

I tried from my new 3TB toshiba's to a Patriot 256G SSD to a 320G 2.5 laptop drive...

All those drives work fine on the back plane set up, but not with the break out cable...

This is tested from when the card boots it does not show any drives being picked up, to being confirmed in Windows under the Raid manager.

Is there anything I am missing in order for the cables to work. I don't believe there is, but it is late and i am annoyed they don't work as i am sure NCIX will charge me for returning them.

Isn't that a _reverse_ breakout cable? They look alike, but it's not the same as a standard breakout cable. That one would go from a controller with individual SATA ports to a backplane with an SFF-8087 port. Read the last customer review on the NCIX page.

Here's an old post in another forum that might shed some light:

huh, that would make sense, i wasn't even aware there was such as thing...i thought it was all one in the same...Appreciate that. Guess I might be sucking up a 15% restocking fee!
