Rule is quite old from what i remember too. So the rule is old school you are just confused.
 
I wish Dell had a 4k 144hz monitor ready along with this deal. I'd go in with my brother to get two and split the savings.

I hear that! I have a 7 year old 24" ultrasharp still going strong myself. But I wanted bigger and wider!
 
I still have a 2005fpw that I use daily. It's not my primary monitor, but still holds up surprisingly well.
