What to order instead of a Pixel XL 128?

So... I've had a pre-order in for a XL 128 since Dec 3rd and Verizon has changed the ship date from 1/06 to 1/13 to now they simply don't know when or if I will get my phone. Sorely tempted to order a different device to replace my LG V10 but I have no idea what to go with... Any suggestions? The V20 doesn't look like a notable upgrade to the 10 and I was really looking forward to the pure android experience...

Order some patience, maybe? :D

And just to ask: have you actually gone to a Verizon store and tried to find a Pixel XL, I mean physically go to a store and see if they have one - not call Verizon on the phone, not even calling a local B&M location either, but physically stopping into a store in your area or several and checking to see what they've actually got in stock at any given moment you're there, you might get surprised. Stock designated for online sales has nothing to do with stock sent to B&M locations, they're not one and the same, not even tracked in the same database either in that company from what I've learned over the years.

Yep. Bell had no 6P's in stock online but my local store had many.

3 different local locations in fact... No dice. Same at best buy, the best buy mobile in my mall, and one of the 3rd party Verizon retailers. These things are like the proverbial white unicorns. I've been patient. I was patient when I knew it was backordered but my patience is running out now that they are giving me a run around as far as actually getting a device in my hands... Calling verizon is amusing as they have no idea what their stock allocation looks like.

Moto Z Force is the next best thing on Verizon IMO. My wife has the (unlocked/GSM) Z Play and it's somehow as fast and smooth, if not faster than my 6P with much slower hardware. So I can imagine the regular Z's are super snappy as well and they're already on Nougat. The fingerprint scanner is faster than the Pixels and subjectivity in a better position for most people (I like it on the back though too). The only noticeable downgrade over the Pixel is the camera, but it still seems more than adequate as well.

I'd honestly wait it out a bit longer. I had a Moto Droid Turbo 2 before my Pixel XL, and it's just so much nicer to hold and use. Moto's build quality has been dropping like a stone since the days of the Nexus 6. My Turbo 2 had loose bezels and a squeaky speaker bar. It's not a bad functioning phone, it just bothered me how everything was not quite right.

The pixel on the other hand is built like a rock. Do you really need the 128gb? I have the 32 and its been more than enough for everything I've used it for, and I'm pretty sure everyone has the 32gb in stock.

Droid Turbo 2 not solid? Hell, I had one a few weeks ago and it literally was a solid rock in every respect, I sold it for a profit but I sincerely miss it already because of just how damned rock solid it happened to be. Had to be a defective unit if you had one that was loose in any respect at all, at least that's my take on it. I wish I could get the Moto X Force (the international version of the Droid Turbo 2, unlocked without all the BS of the Verizon-only Droid Turbo 2) but unfortunately because they're not sold here in the US that means people know their worth and jack the price up even on used units - some of them on eBay are still asking $500+ for 'em (some are less, of course, and some are far more) and while I'd dearly love to get one I would never pay that kind of price myself.

I could probably squeeze by with a 32 but without any expandable memory the 128 seems like a better fit to me. I go a lot of places as a truck driver where I lose or have crappy cell service so I tend to download movies, tv shows, music and audio books to my phone. The extra space is just a buffer to me and makes me feel a little better

Hence my preference for phones with expandable storage and removable batteries and I know I'm not alone in that but you're far from the first person I've ever seen to make such a statement. Thankfully all the Nexus and now the Pixel devices do offer OTG support so, getting a simple combo USB storage device like this becomes a practical thing considering the lack of the very same devices never offering internal expandable capacity by way of a microSD slot:

Every single display model had the same issues mine did. The bar over the earpiece speaker is wobbly. The plastic rim that protects the edge of the "shatter proof" (aka plastic) screen wiggles. It was all a bit dodgy and didn't feel "premium" even though the price tag was. Don't get me wrong, aside from that, it was a solid phone. Its screen was really warm for my tastes, but performance was top notch.

I hear ya. Again, I'd wait it out. It's a super solid phone.

The DT2 I had - bought used off craigslist - had no such issues, everything was basically unmovable, no creaking, no loose joints/fit, buttons were rock solid as well with no play that I could detect at all, etc. Guess I got lucky with the one I had, weird, was sad to let it go but I made a nice profit from it and the new owner was ecstatic to get one so a win-win in my book. :D

There is no replacement. The reason to go Nexus or Pixel is for the software experience. Which is unmatched on any other phone. Basically the only other option is getting an older Nexus.
Either wait, go eBay/CL, or get (in my opinion) an inferior product.

Can always get something with solid AOSP (which truly IS pure Android) support and a good community behind it and go from there. It's not always necessary to buy the latest and greatest, especially at the pricing the Pixel devices are commanding these days, that shit is just crazy expensive by any measurement. :)

Currently staring at a Google sold Pixel XL on craigslist for $500, waiting to hear back from the seller on what the storage capacity is, I'm betting just 32GB but who knows - not that I have the funds to get it, just saying. :D

That's a neat looking little thing...I never thought of using an external storage medium on a cell phone...If I could find a local XL 32 I could probably get away with it using something like this....though dragging around one more extra thing would suck and I do have a bad habit of losing jump rives already

Probably just a 32. With the 'deal' i got through verizon I'm paying $24 a month(i think?) for 24 months. I remember it came out to right at 600 after all was said and done, which was cheaper than buying the phone 'outright' and I could pay it off at any time...Either way I got a deal on it, if I can only convince myself to be patient for it

Seller never responded which is typical of craigslist I suppose, could have been a scammer just phishing for phone numbers/email addresses, who knows. I've only seen a handful of ads for Pixels so far locally, there's a 32GB Pixel up for trade at the moment (wants $500 or trade for Verizon device + cash), it'll disappear at some point I suppose.

And yes those little combo USB/microUSB sticks do come in handy sometimes on storage limited devices, definitely a good idea to get one just in case considering they're not that expensive over just a plain old USB one.

Well my order was pushed back to 2-17 then yesterday I received an email saying it was being processed and readied for shipping. So I honestly have zero idea what big red is doing... It's possible I could have it as early as next week

It's not Verizon. HTC has massive issues actually producing phones (why the 10 was a flop), I have no doubt they're behind the delays.

I like mine but its the 32gb one. I just dont put video on it. I access my plex server at home for that so not a problem. It will also auto send pictures to google pics to conserve space.

it's probably more like Samsung won't sell or deliver the OLED displays at a reasonable cost, just like what had happened in the past to HTC.

I guess I got lucky and crossed my fingers just enough... Received an email this evening with a tracking number for it...even though the verizon web portal still says mid March...

Congrats. You'll enjoy it I think. It's all about that smooth software experience.

Glad Google is finally getting some of these out. I can't help but wonder how much better sales would have been for them if they could actually ship more of what people want... This phone has already been released for 3 months and you still can barely find an XL 128GB but I have seen some others reporting that they are also getting 128gb XL orders in within the last couple days.

It's nice not having to constantly worry about free space by getting the 128gb model. The automatic space savings from Google Photos is great but your photos and videos have to be uploaded first... Considering how fast 4k video consumes storage... You can't load too much on your phone if you want to capture 4k video...

The 10 was basically pulled from (some) carriers because they couldn't manufacture them with any reliability. No OLED there. Besides, tons of other phones are shipping with OLED samsung screens just fine.

Guess who supplies HTC with the LCD displays for the 10 as well?

Got the phone today. I guess a weeks worth of patience was all it took!

Let us know what you think. I've been loving mine for the last 2 months. First phone I think that combines the simplicity and smoothness of an iphone with the flexibility and versatility of an android. My favorite phone so far. Beast.

I enjoy it quite a bit. It's snappy. Significantly faster than the LG V10 I came off of. I think alot of that is the lack of verizon bloat and the Android skinning. I can't make any guarantees but even doing things like swapping threads in bacon reader and loading web sites seems to go faster. Had to install network refresher so i could trick my hot spot into working since foxfi doesn't work with android 7 yet...but other than that I absolutely love it. I'm running the older october build and I'm very tempted to unlock the bootloader and then root it and potentially ROM it. Been digging around on XDA for a few days now trying to decide which direction to go with it

At this point you could just hope your V10 staves off a bootloop long enough for something with an 835. I have a Pixel 128 and I'm not sure I'd actually buy one if it meant that the delivery date will be after MWC.

I wish the Pixel came with a 64gb memory slot. I think that is the perfect sweet spot right now for memory storage. How you like the Pixel phone so far?

I have the 128. Got it on day one. Worth every penny to me. Between the XL a and Project Fi, I'm in love. It's nearly perfect in aesthetics N performance. Only wish blue came in 128, but that's a small gripe. Android came into its own and it solidly bests the 7+ hands down. My girl in fact has a 7+ and wishes she could have my XL.

Bet Google Is glad you guys are buying their old stock of XL's. The new one is out here early summer or so. So soonish. The V30 is also shipping in the next 5 or 6 months.

Really can't keep your current phone a few more months?

To be fair, this thread is over a month old...

So basically never buy a new phone then? By the time a flagship is widely available you'll only be waiting 11 months or so for the next model. Might as well wait.

In the real world the Pixel XL is only 4 months old and it seems unlikely that Google is going to release a new flagship before Fall.

Google has launched their mobile devices near Halloween for years now. What makes you think they'll launch in the summer?

I typically upgrade my phone once a year or once every two years just depending on how the hardware feels when the refreshed devices roll out. I hand my phones down to the kids and such and it doesn't go to waste. Nice to have a stock of spares around too on the off chance that I get clumsy and break something....
