Howdy!
I've only played trough RE4 (original on gamecube) and RE5 (on xbox360) and I'm looking to get into the serie again. I do not mind isometric games (huge fan of Eternal Darkness). I went trough the list of RE games on Steam and I'm at lost with all the remakes, biohazard titles, etc.

I'm looking for a definitive list and order of must-play Resident Evil games. While I do not mind shitty gfx if the gameplay is there, I will have no nostalgia toward the older games so I would lean toward more modern remakes if possible.

Thanks a lot for your input!

Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster - (Takes place before the events of Resident Evil) 1
Resident Evil HD Remaster

Both have been optimized & Re-imagined ( Textures / Camera Angles ect.) for PC & I can tell you that they are great! You should be in for a real treat if you haven't played Zero or 1 before.

.....Wait for Resident Evil 2 HD Remaster
.....Wait for Resident Evil 3 HD Remaster
Resident Evil : Code Veronica if you can find it on PC, Might have to use emulator, Sega Dreamcast (Thanks piscian18 :)) version is the best IMO.

That's about it. Although 4 was good. I can't recommend any of them past 4.

I just played through Resident Evil remastered and I can confirm this is the definitive way to experience resident evil. I will warn you some of the backgrounds are jarringly low res but its so worth. They also added 3D so no "tank valentine" mechanics if you don't want to play that way. Despite beating all the resident evil games numerous times as a teen I realized I cant fuckin stand the tank mechanics.

I'm playing through Resident Evil 0 remastered but frankly I'd forgotten it's not that great. kinda boring honestly. Good for story though.

Then resident Evil 2 I guess but man it looks like shit these days. Theres a remake in the works so may be worth waiting for.

I believe you then want to play Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Despite the odd sidegame sounding moniker this is the last "great" resident evil game and frankly my favorite. I believe Kren means Dreamcast, I think your best bet is Dreamcast with an HD adapter. I can loan one but I want fucking proof you used it. Otherwise I thiiiiiink it might be worth playing Code Veronica X the Ps2 updated version with emulation so you can use your fancy PC videocard to at AA.

fuck all the other ones you havent played they're swill.

4 was the best, and I tried 5 and didn't like it. I just read the story instead to know what happened. Same with 6.

7 though I'm excited for. It seems to veer away from the action and go back to Horror.

I got the RE1 classic on the PS3 and the remake on the PS4... and I can honestly say, wait for the remakes.

RE HD is the best and you should really play through that one before RE0 HD, as plot elements in the latter will make more sense and be more enjoyable. Then just work your way through sequentially. I personally wouldn't bother with anything outside the main series except for Code: Veronica and Revelations 1.

If you play RE6 there is a recommended order in which to play through the different chapters.

If I recall correctly, Code Veronica is the only game out of all of them that never came out specifically on PC. Originally came out on Dreamcast and then on PS2 as Code Veronica X. And then later on the "HD" version was released on PS3. So that one you'll have to use an emulator or something?

I double checked the Resident Evil Wiki and i'm correct. Every Resident Evil title is available to play on PC except Code Veronica, so OP will have to find some way to play it. They remastered it for PS3 and Xbox 360 and is available for PS2 and Dreamcast.

I bought a PS2 copy from a local shop and made an image on my PC to play on PCSX2.

I am curious, I have a PS2 copy already and if I do that does the game actually look better? Like, can you play at higher resolution or add anti-aliasing? Also, what program do you use to make a image of the game to play on PCSX2? Also, is that software compatible with the PC Xbox controller?
