The next version of Android Wear is finally dropping, and Google has tapped LG to produce the first smartwatches that will run the software. Luckily, I am not seeing a flat tire on either of the OLED screens, which was a major turn off on the Moto 360 watches. The more expensive model even has 3G/LTE/GPS/NFC, so I may be upgrading my SmartWatch 3, finally.

This project was first reported by Android Police way back in early July of last year, and the mockups published shortly afterwards closely resemble the shipping products. The 14.2-millimeters thick Watch Sport will come in titanium and dark blue, while the 10.8-millimeter thick Watch Style — with its swappable straps — will be available in titanium, silver, and rose gold. Of the two models, which both feature circular, plastic OLED displays, Watch Sport is clearly the flagship device. Besides its larger, higher-resolution screen (1.38 inches and 480 x 480, versus Style’s 1.2-inch, 360 x 360 face), the Sport also contains more RAM (768MB versus 512MB, although internal storage is 4GB across the board), and a larger battery (430mAh versus 240mAh).

Wearables and smartwatches are still a thing? I haven't heard anything about any of them in a looong time.

I'll stick with my Garmin Fenix 3HR. Not as smart but get at LEAST 2 weeks out of the battery and I could wear this beast into war. NOT until they make them rugged with proper battery life will I even look at a watch like that.

Nobody needs more than 640KB......

I think I'll stick with my dumb watch. < $20 and the battery last 7+ years.
Maybe you can help. Whats the purpose of these watches. All I can get from them is their is one huge, huge profit margin. Will these watches be a life changer for me, give me a better quality of life. Does it mean I must not use long sleeve shirts any more.

I think I will stick with my Breitling and Rolex. Part of wearing a watch is about the art of what makes it do what it does. If I needed a watch to do all of that, my Windows 10 phone easily does everything.

What is a watch? Is that something people who wear ascots and a top hat use. A watch...

I bought a cheap ($150) android watch so I wouldn't have to look at my phone to see who is calling or texting me while I'm driving. It also comes in handy when I loose my phone in the car and I can ring it from the watch. There is also the option of having the watch vibrate if you leave your phone behind, but it's not that reliable.

The watch I bought (asus zenwatch 2) also has a built-in speaker/mic so you can use it like a Dick Tracy watch-phone (which was fun for about 5 minutes, and buggy as hell)

I was already wearing a regular watch before that, and the old watch needed replacing anyway

I'm not buying any mobile products touched by LG, I promise that. When they source HTC to make them I'll bite. My Moto 360 gen 2 is pretty handy.

To some people a watch is a fashion statement, to others it is used just to tell time. Casio still sells watches that look ugly as hell so not everyone agrees with you. If watches are art to you then the amount of complications matter more than any smart functionality. Me? I just like being able to screen my phone calls without digging in my pocket.

The purpose of the Apple watch was to separate iBots from even more of their money.
The purpose of these Android watches is to say "we can make a watch too".

Next logical step is Android Proct for even more improved mining

I use Microsoft Band 2 and it absolutely beautiful device with fluid beautiful UI. Indeed you need to charge it but it takes like an hour in 2 days to charge it and wear it non stop.

I use the cheap Martian Notifier watch. It is handy to know you're getting email or text messages and a brief message on the watch with details. I also get bank confirmations for purchased items - nice to know you're not getting overcharged or something perhaps.

It's more convenient than pulling your phone out. And more discreet when you're at work/meetings/dinner table.

If you wear a casio you already hate yourself enough, so we don't really care about that person on any level as far as what you wear. That person also is probably walking around wearing some combination of Crocs/Sandals and black socks as well. Like the person you quoted, I'll stick to actual time pieces as I'm partial to mechanicals. Smart watches aren't watches. They are just terrible little gadgets that serve no purpose beyond fleecing people out of money. As a gadget freak it pains me to say that as I really wanted them to be cool little devices, but they just aren't there yet.

Have to disagree to an extent here. My smartwatch is immensely helpful in keeping me notified without having to remember to take my phone off DND, or without having to take it out for some meaningless notification.

I appreciate the aesthetic aspect of a watch, not where I'm paying hundreds for it, though. Some people love jewelry, I mainly need something that fits a need. I still dress smartly and use simple, generally classic and attractive watch face designs on my smartwatch.

I mean, I've seen Rolexes on some trashy ass people who drive clapped out, stanced 3-series. A timepiece definitely doesn't make the man.

Rolex is for folks with all the money and no imagination. With so many other premium brands they have to pick that one...

You sound like a real fun guy.
