Microsoft does care about gamers, mkay? That “Game Mode” that was rumored has now been confirmed to exist, although they, apparently, are not ready to elaborate on any of it. Show-offs will also be able to stream your games instantly to the Beam service, a Twitch competitor.

Mike Ybarra, Head of Platform Engineering for Xbox, has released information about what gamers can expect with the Creators Update arriving for Windows 10 PCs and the Xbox One sometime in April. The update will make it easier to stream games by bringing the Beam platform to the Xbox One and Windows 10, improve the performance of PC games by utilizing Windows Game Mode, with a focus on making it easier to keep in touch with friends - to name a few. Microsoft has categorized these improvements and features, bringing attention to four main themes: Streaming, Performance, People, Competition.

Could be something good but, we will see. Either way, increased performance is always a good thing.

And xbox games will still be just for xbox. Yawn, another win10 Band-Aid that should have been a feature in the past, 10 years ago.

Except that Microsoft produces Play Anywhere titles so, guess what you just said does not make sense anymore.

Or they could stop fucking with the OS and let gaming companies do their thing. So twitch gets super popular so let's add that, oh no let's add a different service. The OS should handle the kernel and drivers and leave everything else to competent software companies. Sure we need products on the server side but the desktop is a gateway to everything else and MS tries so hard to force you into their ideal platforms instead of just being an OS.

i just Love the subscription button on the screenshot.
wanna bet performance gains wont be even worth mentioning once it's out ? if there will be any at all.
just another desperate try from M$ to bring people to it's own crappy Xbox Live eco-system.

I thought that was a flop because even average PC gamers were able to absolutely dominate the best console players, because sitting back on your couch, 10 feet from a TV, with thumbsticks was simply far less accurate and quick as sitting close to a very high definition LCD using a mouse and keyboard, no?

I mean, personally, I'd be kind of pissed if I'm in a bicycle race, but only half the players are using bicycles and the other half are on motorcycles.

Just because you do not like it or use it does not make it crappy. Oh well, 4 free games a month is cool in my book. (And no, I do not pay $60 for their service but closer to $36 a year.)

Nope, play anywhere is buy it once and play it on any Xbox One or Windows 10 system you have. No need to buy different copies, which is why I bought Gears of War 4 on sale.

I'd be happy if they'd just let me completely disable and uninstall all Xbox integration.

It irks the shit out of me that I have that garbage on my computer.

I just let Win 10 do its update thing without try to modify it to be selective like a sheep.

Game Mode is in the latest Fast Ring preview, Build 15007. It doesn't DO anything, but it is there.

Cross platform don't count. Xbox is still for xbox. Until they get a true play it on any win10 device, they are full of shit and still 10 years too late. Still waiting for another freelancer.

Lucky you. I have it on my win10 phone of all things. Fucking xbox.

It very well could be that the library was added to the release branch prior to it being used. It's one thing to add a library and it's another thing entirely to actually add code which calls it.

MS still has a few months to actually hook it up. The fast branch is not what we will get (those not on the fast branch). The fast branch is how MS is being agile - regular releases, quick feedback, and quick turnaround.

How does that not count? I can buy a game and play it on my PC or XBox One. I don't have to pay for it on both systems. That's fucking awesome (and yeah, Valve did it first but at least Microsoft is catching up).

You're still living in the Steve Ballmer Microsoft era of half-hearted promises they never intended to keep and monopolistic bullshit. They've been doing some pretty solid work since they kicked his pasty ass to the curb, some of the Win 10 telemetrics crap aside.

Microsoft biggest fail here is that game mode only works for Microsoft windows store games.

Windows 10 is a pos. Microsoft is a pos. If there was ever a company I wanted to fail its Microsoft.

Oh so it'll be trash? What a surprise

And this is where anti-Microsoft/Windows folks need to take a step back and consider just how rich the Windows ecosystem is. I have more hardware and software running under Windows 10 personally than any prior version of Windows, and overall everything works very well. With something like Windows with the such a large user base and variety of wants and needs of users, yeah it gets tricky and Microsoft obviously makes plenty of mistakes.

But then anti-Windows people argue how horrible Windows is but hey, Linux is great for gaming because it runs 1/3rd of their games? The answer to the horrors of Windows is something that supports significantly less than what most gamers already have? Like how in the world is that supposed to convince average folks that simply want to use their computers to do things. So Windows 10 updates will interrupt your game. With Linux it's not a problem because the game won't even run, nothing to interrupt!

"Creators Update details revealed. And yes, Game Mode will include both Win32 and UWP games." Sounds like Steam and others to me.

People here make a ton of assumptions. O_O What is going on here? Bash bash bash blindly seems to be the culture. I thought people usually bash after reviewing correct information?

Considering how long you have been here, I am surprised you would think that. :D Bashing is a favorite pastime of these parts around here. Good thing the bashing does not effect the final outcome though.

Painting every Windows 10 user as having a computer that doesn't work and always crashing, double check. You hate Windows 10 beyond reason. Fine. You have some alternative or are just posting pointless memes? People like you have told me how horrific 10 is and the as bold as you think you are, only DeathFromBelow has been man enough to tell people unequivocally to move away from Windows. Because 1/3rd of his games work.

The best people like you can do is that Windows 10 super sucks and have nothing to offer to replace it. Other than telling them they are a meme. Brilliant. Not.

I'm normally not one to defend Microsoft, but their move to have parity release on the PC for all their own Xbox titles is a big step in the right direction. And as for too late, more like 15 years late, not 10. Microsoft essentially sold PC gamers down the river with the development of the Xbox. If they had maintained parity on their own titles, it would have been a far different story. Working out exclusivity deals in the past to keep some titles to keep games OFF the PC, which they make the OS for gaming on is such a backwards conflict of interest. The way I understand it, their new policy means no more console exclusives coming from Microsoft, it'll all be on both platforms. Artificial exclusives are a cancer in gaming, I see any more away from it as a good thing. While there's PLENTY to criticize MS on elsewhere, this is one thing I wish they had done from the beginning. If they had, it might have left them with a much better reputation with gamers than they have today. I'll take "better late than never" over the usual passive-agressive policy of "go fuck yourself" that we've gotten time and time again in the past.

If Win 10 didn't suck we wouldn't be bashing it. We also wouldn't be bashing it so hard if we weren't effectively tied down to the platform. Your absolutely dishonest statement of "I have more hardware and software running under Windows 10 personally than any prior version of Windows" is meaningless as you're trying to conflate that we give a damn about your Xbone having """windows 10""" on it, or the implication that you wouldn't have upgraded the majority of your older existing rigs to Win 10 no matter what anyways (which you did).

Have you used the Xbox app in Windows 10? I'm guessing you haven't. Other than that did you read the article? You open the app and select the game mode. Those services would be controlled by the app, regardless if your playing the game from the store or not. I can't believe I'm reading this post on this site.

Dishonest statement? I'm running more hardware and software under Windows 10 than any prior version. I've never had a VR HMD or 4k monitor before for instance. And why should anyone care about your opinion and those who think about Windows 10 similarly any more than those who like 10 such as me? What's more valid about your opinion than mine?

Windows 10 works great for me, but the moment linux can actually play my games ill be switching.

I cannot believe I read your post on this site, who the heck has an xbox here? this is HARDOCP.

I'm guessing you don't know what sarcasm is either... like the other guy who quoted my post.... its a joke...

Yes, its "dishonest" in that you are implying that its a positive statement to credit win 10. You bought more shit and the computer you happen to hook them up to is running Win 10. That does not make Win 10 "better".

"My steam library is bigger than ever, thanks Windows 7"

Again, not sure who a simple state of fact can be dishonest. The point being that for all of the bashing that Windows 10, and yes there are legitimate reasons to criticize some things, like many others here are stating Windows 10 is work well for them.

"My steam library is bigger than ever, thanks Windows 7"

Sure, but there are things coming out now that aren't supported under Windows 7 even on Steam, so of the VR titles need 8 or higher and couple I've bought have been 10 only. That's just the listing on Steam so I can't say for sure that these titles would actually require later than 7 but in any case that's what listed. 7 support in gaming in particular is going to continue to degrade though slowly overall. But area like VR/AR will probably see a faster decline in 7 support.

And when the time comes for gamers to deal with 7 going out of support, it doesn't look there are going to be too many options. Linux gaming, while growing, is still well behind macOS let alone Windows, the gap is actually growing in absolute terms between Windows and macOS and Linux.

FYI, being willfully ignorant == being dishonest. Just as new intel processors aren't "supported", they work fine in Win 7. And when/ there comes a time when lack of support causes 7 to not be a feasible OS for gaming, there should be much better support alternative OS support through Vulkan replacing/competing with DX12 (and in turn the need for Windows).

That realistically is the only option in the near future, but it has widespread support going for it, not just a single token engine.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm simply pointing out my personal situation, like anyone else, and yeah, not everything is supported anymore under Windows 7. As for newer CPU support, that conversation always get mangled. Yes, older OSes are backwards compatible but won't have support for new features like power management stuff that's deeply tied into the OS.

I'd say that's a little misleading since I would wager there are far more games you can actually run on Linux compared to Mac, even if Mac has the higher marketshare. So if Windows were to suddenly stop working tomorrow, you would probably see far more of a rise on Linux for gaming than for Mac. Either way, it's still a hell of a long way off from where it needs to be.
