Scenario: Gaming on the SteamBox in the living room, 5 year old heads to bed, I don't want to keep the full surround setup going, so I'd like to find a nice wireless headset to use from my PC ~10' away from me.

I'd prefer to NOT go wired, as my wife is blind and I'd prefer to not have her trip over wires.

So far, she's managed not to trip on radio waves :)

Budget's not really a concern, but I do want a good price/performance ratio. Spending 2x the money on 5% better quality is a waste to me.

For reference, I have a set of Sennheiser HD 428s that are the best set of cans I own. I don't need anything that exceeds the quality of those, but I would like something that gives me around that range of audio quality, if possible :)

Thanks!

Those do look like nice headphones - but I'm looking for a headset :) I'm thinking it'd be really nice to be able to carry on a conversation on Steam or skype or w/e without disturbing the entire family ;)

I picked up a set of Logitech G933s yesterday - I just got some unboxing video for the YT channel, and am letting them charge now before I start using them (likely tomorrow).

I do appreciate the information, though - some pure headphones may be on the docket later this year, depending on how the experience with this set goes :)

I've heard that these are good (says it's for Xbox One, but it works with the PC too):

But I've also tried Logitech headsets in the past. They served me well enough, except that the wires shorted out on one of them (despite looking like a high-quality cable), and on another, I somehow twisted my head the wrong way and yanked the cord so hard that the plastic part of the USB port separated from the metal, leaving the latter stuck in the port.

Logitech's wireless headphones may very well avoid these pitfalls, since wires seem to be the main point of failure for headsets... good luck with your G933s. Actually, let us know if they're any good. I've been eying those Astro A50s for a long time (one of my friends is always bragging about his pair), but I never could justify the price. Those might be a good alternative.

The issues I have with Logitech headsets (of all types) are twofold:

  • Sound quality (traditionally abysmal at best)
  • Cheap manufacturing (Logitech headsets have a tendency to break easily and often, requiring you to purchase another one)
That having been said, from what I understand, the Logitech G933 is a major improvement over Logitech's previous headsets (in both issues), but since the previous bunch were a serious waste of money, that really isn't saying too much. Unless Logitech can match the levels of the "low-fi/mid-fi" recommended models, for both wired and wireless headphones, I really can't recommend Logitech at this point in time.

TL;DR -- Logitech headsets have a long way to go to match the reputation of their mice/keyboards. And I do mean a LONG way -- it's easily the weakest link in Logitech.

At least Kingston is taking a step in the right direction with their HyperX Cloud series (essentially a rebadge of a Takstar Pro 80 w/a mic -- which is a very good price/performance low-fi headset).

Be very interesting to see what I make of this wireless headset, then :) Thanks!

I just got a pair of Plantronics 818 from amazon. $40
They work great. Mic folds up and out of the way when not being used. One thing, they are "on ear" vs. "over ear" design..... can't speak to how they feel after 6+ hours, but I've worn them often for 2+ hour sessions without issue.

They sound good to me, fit comfortable, and easy to adjust volume while wearing. USB charging so no batteries. I like that it doesn't have extra bling features I'll never use.
Are they $200 headset? No. But I looked for awhile and didn't see better for twice the price.

I just brought some Sony abn100's (h.ear on), I enjoy the sound (they're not neutral), headset works well and the noise cancelling is really good, arguably better than Bose qc35's in loud environments (shop blasting load music/ train station)). They seem to be discounted much more than their similar mdr-1000x sibling.

I also tried the Sony zx770bn, they sound pretty good (compared to HyperX II's), although when using it as a headset people said I sounded distant, and the noise cancelling is ok.

Both have decent battery life. If your're not after noise cancelling, people have reported good deals for generic brands from amazon. Although mic quality often seems to be a very distant after thought.

I know this thread is old, but here is my advice. Recently I found a great pair of wireless headset in an article, the LucidSound LS30 Wireless Universal Gaming Headset. There a relatively new company if I'm not mistaken, they don't have a wide variety of headset. I don't own a pair at the moment, but when my current headset dies I am going to purchase a pair, they seem to offer a fantastic set of features for the price, plus if it helps them grow bigger then why not!

Anyways here is the article I found them in https://exposegaming.com/best-gaming-headset-under-200/ , you might find other choices in there. Good luck on your search!

Since you are couch playing anyways (and probably using a gamepad), have you considered a Xbox One controller with Wireless adapter (not using bluetooth)? The newer version of the controller has a 3.5mm headset jack and will support audio going through the controller as long as you use the MS wireless adapter and Windows 10.

I use Corsair Void 7.1s and I think they're fantastic, but I'm a bit of Corsair fanboi. I believe they are on sale now , though I saw them at $60. I turn off the RGBs...
