Well, that didn’t take long, did it? This app made news about two weeks ago, but now it’s dead already after a third-party complaint. While Netflix didn’t issue it themselves, I can only assume it was very much on their radar.

“Free Netflix Downloader”…was the first Windows application that allowed people to download Netflix videos to their computers through an easy-to-use interface. “This is the ONLY app in the world that can do this trick now!” DVDVideoSoft’s Alex informed TF two weeks ago. While the resulting video quality wasn’t particularly good, the software did what it was supposed to do and appealed to a broad audience. This didn’t go unnoticed by Netflix and others, which soon led to an official complaint. As a result, DVDVideoSoft has decided to pull the plug and discontinue its development. “The development of Free Downloader for Netflix is discontinued by a third-party request. The program is not available for download now,” a message on the download site now reads.

It's not the first program to make it easy - I've been using PlayOn to archive Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and many others for well over a year. My 6 year old can even record shows... Drop those recordings in Plex and then any of my friends can watch them.

I already leach off a friend's Netflix so I was not about to violate the Netflix T.O.S. and possible damage that relationship by trying out the downloader, oh well.

I don`t get it , i use Netflix all the time and i like it, if i`d wanted to keep those shows on my PC i would torrent them at highest quality and not settle for the mobile quality version.

Kids... They don't care about the quality so much. But Netflix dumps a lot of cartoons and shows the kids watch over, and over, and over, and over... Handy to be able to archive them.

100%

I know so many people that download crap quality movies even my girlfriend, 720p tiny audio and mobile versions.

Even with unlimited internet I don't let her waste my bandwidth! Movies have to be high bitrate and 5.1 audio have a home theater for reason if I want a version to play on a phone I will convert it myself from the high quality version. If you are archiving even the animated stuff needs to be high quality.

I refuse to watch CAM's or streamed low bit rate garbage they all look terrible on my 64 inch plasma.

while the dl link is gone, a little and I mean a little trial and error and the file is still available.

But you are a super advanced user.

Unless the movie is a 15-20GB x264 or x265 encode from the private torrent site I use... I really don't stream.

Only thing I do stream regularly is The Grand Tour on amazon prime.
