I couldn't agree with you more. D2, D3, PoE, and any other economy based games like this are not fun. It is an illusion of fun. Took the words right out of my mouth. I believe the entire genre is a complete joke because of trading and awful drop rates. PoE just makes it even worse by having a horrible trading system. At least D3 had an AH you could use to make it as painless as possible. The gameplay itself is awful in these games. It's about as braindead as it gets. But they do what they do so well with their reward systems that it keeps you holding down the right mouse button for hours. It's hard to believe how sucked in people become over games that offer no real susbstance at all (obviously myself included).

I vow to never play another game of this genre again.

Denial you say? You've got a long history of playing the fuck out of this game and then shitting all over it once you've realized you're an addict.

The weakness at the beginning and build-up of power over time is exactly in line with other games of the genre that inspired much of PoE; it's part of the "adventure" element of these games, especially if you're starting from scratch. The main advantages to D3's system are that there is very little collision and you can perform a lot of actions while moving (i.e. Warcry vs Enduring Cry); both make the combat much smoother and arcade-like. D3 also has very few doorways, however, and is mostly just some uninteresting corridors (A4 is literally just a bunch of platforms), so there was a price to pay for reducing the collision. I like both games though, and find the action satisfying in both.

Totally stand by my previous posts. Everything I said is true. They are good at what they do which is exploiting our basic desire for reward. They do it so well that we take part despite knowing exactly what's happening.

I'm not here to argue with you. If you think POE is great all around, then that's awesome. Telling someone else who sees it's massive flaws to "keep going" and "it gets better" means there is a problem. Perhaps a problem with the genre in general, but even worse with POE.

I'm sure I'll continue to play it. I can be critical of the game while still getting allowing myself to "enjoy" it occasionally. I did go years without playing it until Essence league, so I was doing well on my vow:D

These Breach leagues seem pretty crazy so far! Definitely spicing up the lower levels:

Yeah, I'm still going thru the motions, (late start) but so far, there's been quite a few oh shit moments. Def my fave league in a while. Right behind the first flashback.. This reminds me alot of beyond, though. This is a good thing. :)

I'm also really impressed with the art improvements they've been making - those trees and shadows at the beginning of the game are a great example of how the game continues to improve. DX11 is also really really nice: butter-smooth and super pretty all the time.

DX11 is awesome FPS wise. Did Cruel Koam with a SRS/Zombie, Firestorm, Scorching Ray w/ Searing Totem, and myself a Freezing Pulse w/ Searing Totem; no fps lag at all. Smooth.

That said, its got some bugs on my system. If I do full screen, when I alt-tab my resolution will bump down to 1920x1080 (from 1920x1200) when I come back. Checked settings in geforce, the config files for path, etc; no luck.
If I do windowed-fullscreen, "show desktop" doesn't actually show the deskopt, just brings up the window for the game, but doesn't minimize.

Yesterday I hit L90 on my Duelist Slayer in Breach league, I've been a Standard league player for a while but Breach is certainly fun so far. Playing a 2H sword Lacerator build, (intentionally avoided Blade Flurry), and enjoying playing life/melee after getting tired of playing CI builds.

Highlights so far, I picked up an almost perfect voidheart for about 5ex
ZxtCikT.jpg

and picked up a lacerate uber enchant helm for about 3ex
JVyddZ7.jpg

This early in the league high level maps are kinda scarce so might just play casually for awhile and enjoy the new content. While for experienced players Breach might be awesome, it does have some difficulty balance issues which I think might have the possibility of turning off players new to the game. PoE broke its most concurrent players record with this expansion so the future is looking good for GGG.

Already thinking what this character is gonna be like once he gets to Standard and puts on some of the insane gear and legacy items I got there. My almost perfect 6L Starforge will go great with this build.

I debated going slayer since the total attack speed sounded like it gets to some pretty insane numbers, your build sounds fun.

My freezing pulse is finally coming together. Last night I bought a few pieces to round out my resistances, but the 5L ES chest market is inflated to hell. So I farmed a bit, got a 6S Vaal Regalia. Said "fuck it I'll just try to roll a high ES blue then regal it". So I transmute it to start and had forgotten I had a the prophecy to turn it into a rare. Landed with a ~500es chest w/ one resist "meh good enough". Tried all my fuses (25ish), best was a 4L. Converted my jews to fuses (another 8ish), no luck. Said screw it I'll just go with this for now. Went to bathroom, got a drink... "dammit I want a 5L", converted all my augs to jew to fuses (5 total). Second one landed me a 6L. So now I'm set for a while and just need to knock out low mapping, gather currency, have fun.

Just to test, I also messed with Cast while Channeling.
Scorch Ray + CwC + FP + More Crit + Crit Dam + Cont Destr ended up being useable, much easier on mana than straight FP. The casts per second were low, but it was fast enough to do Dried Lake in Lazy-BarelyClick-Braindead-Mode

I'd like to try it with capped better synergized gems, though the difference is only 0.04s in cast delay for CwC. The damage on Scorch Ray is much better capped, more than double what it is from 14 to 20.

One of the new uniques, the Halcyron gives a huge boost to the build with longer freeze times, cold dam, etc; I got a low rolled one for 4c. The only major issues I have left with the build is getting a Valyrian (or Skyforth lol) to avoid stuns; and a tad bit more mana regen, which should come naturally with slightly better gear.

Tooltip right now sits at 27k no buffs.

Picked up a 700dps Starforge for about 10ex, and an almost perfect Belly of the Beast chest armor. Now wearing somewhere about 24ex in gear on this char. Other than 6L'ing the sword, and maybe picking up a couple of the unique potions, I think this char is pretty much done. Not bad for a little over 1 week into the league, though I must admit I'm tempted to sell the Starforge and pick up a rare 550+ dps sword. Blowing up packs with Herald of Ash/Hatred is a lot of fun, something you can't do with Starforge (as you deal zero elemental damage while wielding it). Though Starforge allows you to be more defensive, as you can run defensive auras/curses instead.

As for breach league its still fun so far, killed a couple of the breach lords, found and upgraded some of the breach uniques, and I'm enjoying running into the breaches while mapping. A vaal breach gem dropped for me, though I haven't used it yet. Still plan on playing casually cause my backlog of games is growing again.

I probably shouldn't have AFK'd, forgot what I was doing, then not bothered to read the mods on the strongbox I took the trouble to ID with a shit ton of corpses around it...lol

I'm barely playing now, gonna quit and just wait for 3.0, might log on and play stupid mods for a bit but I'm hitting burnout already. Breaches are neat but its too samey.

Hit L94 a few days ago and pretty much done with the league, only logging in occasionally to share my masters (all L8) or to run a map or two for fun. Spent more than 2k fusings on my belly chest that wouldn't 6L, kinda killed my enthusiasm a bit. As I hinted I might do before, I sold the starforge and picked up a rare 730 DPS 2h sword (550phys/180ele), I believe it's the highest DPS 2H rare sword in the entire breach league right now.

Back to blowing up packs with Hatred/Herald of Ash which is a lot of fun. Starforge right now imo is in a weird place, the 'no ele dmg' limitation emphases the lack of options pure phys builds have.

Early in the league I saw a player blow 1700 fusings on his Atziri's axe, it didn't link and he spammed a few global channels in anger, rage quit the league and hasn't logged back in yet. My reaction then was '1700 ? nah I won't be that unlucky'. lol.

Nice sword. I'm thinking about going a 2h """melee""" build next league. This league? I hit 85 / mid-map tiers then said fuckit, didn't feel like doing it all over again. Plus I didn't get to play much the first week, so I missed out on staying ahead of the initial currency inflation curve.

Gonna save myself from getting burned out and be ready for 3.0 in the new year. In the meantime, lots of other crap to play.

You're not supposed to be a world destroyer at level 10

I agree with both of you guys. PoE to me did always feel a bit clunky until the later game when you finally have enough cast or attack speed. Until you get one of those stats up to a decent level, the wait time on animations to finish before you can continue moving is pretty darn long for an ARPG. At the same time, staring out lame and growing your character is what these games are all about.

I've certainly felt that PoE as well as D3 are more about the endgame.

With D2 (before I played the shit out of it, and went MP), and now Grim Dawn, it is about the journey. Both of these games I have thoroughly enjoyed since the very beginning of the game.

Isn't the 6L price from the master 1500?

I hope you guys are playing some during this holiday break, they've cranked up the drop rate. I've played about 3000 hours of POE and only ever got 1 exalt drop that whole time until yesterday when I got 2.

Most players don't save up 2k fusings and blow it in one go, they probably do it in batches of say 200-400 at a time, over a week (or 2-3 weeks for more casual players). They don't know ahead of time they are going to be the one unlucky person out of ten who doesn't make it in 1500. By the time they reach 1500 and realize they are the unlucky statistic there's no turning back time.

No, they didn't. That's just the result of low RNG rates, you get more "streaks", either bad or good. Because the chances of x-event in PoE is so low ('x-event' could be dropping an exalt, or 6L a chest, or rolling tyrannical mod on a weapon with alts etc) what happens is that there will be 'streaks' of RNG which benefit some players randomly and screw other players randomly. Like the guy who rolls 3 6Ls in 400 fusings vs other guy who rolls 0 6Ls in 4,000 fusings. Or the guy who drops 20 maps in an hour vs the guy who drops 2 maps in an hour.

RNG is fine as a game design tool, when the chances of x-event happening are like 3%, 5%, 8%, etc. In a game like PoE where the chances of x-event happening are 0.00061, 0.0012 etc, (source) what happens is the streaks or bad and good luck you see.

I see it now yeah.

Is there any trick to farming ex's like the silver coin trick?

Is there any trick to farming ex's like the silver coin trick?
(Mostly) there is no way to target farm for specific items or currency in this game. (div cards, especially the ones that matter, are a joke due to their droprate).
Casual players tend to convert up other currencies, turn them into chaos, then turn the chaos into exalts. (or turn lower currency into ex directly) There are always players selling ex for other currencies.
Players who have more time to dedicate tend to farm atziri/uber/lab/uberlab, which can net you a decent profit if done at the start of a league. (Shaper isn't profitable right now)
Have a public stash tab or two, and any demi-decent rares that drop put them in their for a couple chaos.
The vast majority of my currency came from the unid chaos recipe, I haven't identified a single piece of jewelry (>ilvl60) this entire league. I've prob done that recipe close to 1000 times times by now. Vendor recipe system.

Yeah, buying ex's is where I get mine but I hate being forced to interact with other people just because I can't farm what I want. I've been farming silver coins and trading them for ex's since it's the most reliable drop I've found. I just wish they'd add a little trick for all the currencies like that, except for like mirrors, obviously.

Farm cruel dried lake with a level 50 toon. I get an average of 10 coins per clear which takes about 3 minutes, skipping voll of course. I suicide to keep from leveling. I'm not sure it's really a "trick" but it's the fastest I've found. I only have a couple level 90ish toons though so I've not tried farming the high end levels.

Wow, 10 per run...that's nuts. What's so special about being level 50? Drop rate doesn't go over 100%, does it? Since Cruel Dried Lake is level 55, you should be able to farm it up through level 57 with the same loot drop rate.

I've not tried going over 50 since that's what people said to do and I got a good farm build going. Your theory is correct, 57 should be better, but maybe there's a glitch?

I just tried this last night from level 44-52 and only ever got 8 silver coins total, 1 all of level 50. Can't imagine what I did wrong...

Solo Self-Found Support in 2.6.0.
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1823776

We plan to add a system to officially record the progress of Solo Self-Found players in Content Update 2.6.0. This manifesto post describes our current plan. We welcome your feedback.

What is Solo Self-Found?

Solo Self-Found (SSF) is common self-enforced playstyle where trading and partying are not allowed. This means that your character's progress is entirely based on your own efforts and cannot be influenced by other players. You can't receive powerful items or help with difficult bosses from other players. Many players choose to play in this mode for the challenge or the bragging rights. Progress through the game is a lot slower (and many feel, more rewarding) when you have to find or craft every item upgrade yourself rather than being tempted to trade for quick power gains.

Until now, SSF was an honour system. Players could claim they got to certain levels without help, but there was no way to know for sure. In Content Update 2.6.0, we plan to formalise this feature that players can opt-in and have the rules enforced automatically. Their progress is tracked on a ladder and they can opt a character out whenever they want to play or trade with other players.

It's important to stress that the expectation is that most SSF characters do turn into regular characters eventually. Some players just last longer than others before they decide to party up or trade. For example, you might play to level 20 before you decide to trade for a rare item that triples your killspeed. Your friend might play all the way to low maps before she wants to start trading. These scores of level 20 and 70 respectively would be recorded on the SSF ladder.

Goals For Implementation:
  • To cleanly enforce the SSF ruleset.
  • Players can easily opt-out characters or their entire league progress (masters, atlas, etc) at any time that they want to start trading or partying.
  • To be an optional mode. For now there are no incentives for playing other than additional challenge and bragging rights.
  • We do not want new players to choose SSF unless they know what they're doing. Despite the addition of this mode, Path of Exile is still designed and intended to be multiplayer with partying and trading.

Implementation Plan:
SSF versions of the existing leagues would exist, which are a checkbox on the character creation screen. This option may be hidden until the player has rescued the Scion or something like that.

In these SSF leagues, you can't trade or party with other players. These leagues have their own stashes, master progression, Atlas progress, etc. Multiple characters in the same SSF league on your account can share items via the stash. This is progress that you have earned alone, without help from other players.

The leagues have ladders that track the highest level you got to before moving the character back to regular leagues.

On the character selection screen, there's a button that performs a one-way transfer of a character to the equivalent non-SSF league. After doing this, the character appears on the regular ladder for that league and can trade and party like anyone else. Individual items can be moved over to the regular leagues by creating a temporary mule character that you transfer.

There's also a button that migrates all characters as well as your league-account progress like masters, stash tabs, the atlas, etc. You would be able to migrate it all and then later decide to play more SSF characters if you want.

Challenges are shared between all four challenge leagues (for example, Breach, Breach SSF, Hardcore Breach, Hardcore Breach SSF).

No one knows if you completed the challenges in an SSF league or not, but this is important so that the SSF mode doesn't feel mandatory. If you don't want to play in it, just ignore it and play the regular one! If you do like playing SSF, then this mode will give you the ability to demonstrate your progress in an indisputable way.

With this proposal, SSF characters and regular characters are technically in different leagues and wouldn't be able to see each other in chat. We may have to implement combined global chat channels.

While it may seem that the addition of new leagues for this feature would fracture the economy, it is worth noting that existing SSF characters were already not taking part in the economy.

This post applies to the PC version. No discussion has yet taken place regarding whether this system is being brought to the Xbox One version.

Please let us know if you have any feedback on this system!

I have a ton of silver coins but I can't find the prophecy chick anymore. She used to be in act 2 but she's now gone. Where did she go??

At ~4pm EST the 3.0 Expansion will be revealed by media outlets + GGG. It appears from a leak that the name will be "Admonition of Kalandra".

Tomorrow the 2.6 league will be revealed, which from various GGG posts appears to be a legacy/flashback type league, and likely little marks the "end of an era" of sorts for the game, depending on how big the 3.0 expansion really is. I'm planning on hitting it pretty hard as a summoner in 2.6 then 3.0 I have no idea.

Anyone else excited?

I'm still working on my guy in grim Dawn, so I'm still sitting out on this game. Probably will come back for the next expansion

Looks like they're finishing off the game's main story, which leads me to believe that they are going to be focusing most of their core team on a new game. If I had to guess what "3.5" would be, I'd say a PvP focused expansion. They'll probably have a group keep doing new leagues / content, and maybe with that more interesting balance changes with each one. 3.0 is going to be really fun though and the unified experience will definitely help me get some of my buddies to play again.

WTF 10 acts. I hope they are doing away with the difficulty system and just use the acts as the difficulty modifier(act 10 would be like merciless for example). I don't exactly want to do 30 acts worth of content to reach maps... for each character that I make. Otherwise I look forward to the new content, this is one of my favorite games. POE is one of the few games that I can return to multiple times during a year, I usually skip a league or two depending on what they bring to the game.

Yep, One playthough, no more difficulties. More details on 2.6 are coming tomorrow, but it looks like they are integrating a "legacy currency", where instead of paying chaos for map mods, you'll get league orbs to drop, which you can then combine up to three of them as modifiers on your map.

So a map could be a perandus + beyond + invasion league map, plus its normal mods. I presume this will carry over into 3.0.

Abandoned D3 several seasons ago for PoE and haven't regretted it. I was only expecting Act 5 for 3.0 but 6 for a total of 10 freaking acts is simply mindblowing. The addition of official solo self found support for 2.6 is just icing on the cake.
Breach has been the most fun I've had with the game and that's saying a lot 'cause Perandus and Atlas were pretty freaking good as well. Found my first mirror and literally did all of the game's content, though I've kinda stopped at 38 out of 40 challenges 'cause I just didn't want to do the grinding ones.

Every league I've bought a couple of supporter packs and then some, and seeing how much GGG cares for the game and the fans is gonna make me grab a few more from here until the expansion hits.

Legacy league announced, launches March 3rd. All 17 prior leagues combined into one

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1834597

You can get Relic Uniques which have their original stats before any balance nerfs. Think of +1000 life Kaom's Heart (currently +500), or +1000% melee/unarmed damage Facebreakers (curently +800% max)

Calling it now, the best headhunter belt farming combo will be Perandus + Warbands + Nemesis. You get a chance at Cadiro to sell you the belt + warband elites can drop it + nemesis which doesn't need explanation.

P.S: LOL @ the end of the video a Beyond boss one shotting the player with detonate corpse. Be careful! :D

Oh snap. Legacy supporter pack character glow versus the Diablo 2 full set character glow

Double snap it's actually Immortal Kings!
