I ordered the XFX Fury X, hasn't arrived yet and I have a few questions regarding the power cables. Will the GPU come with it's own power cables to hook up to the power supply?

I found some power cables that came with my PSU, but two of them (the PCIE cables) are both missing a metal part in one of the cables. The other cable, the PSU CPU cable, only has 4 connections on it and I could be wrong but I think the FURY X needs 8 connections?

No. The GPU doesn't come with power cables because different manufacturer's use different methods to connect their cables at the PSU end (even if we are to assume people aren't still using fixed cable PSUs that aren't modular at all).

It sounds like you are talking about PCIe 6 pin cables that left out pin2. Note that the Fury X uses 2x 8 pin PCIe connections.

A 4 pin EPS connector is wired oppositely of PCIe with the grounds and +12v swapped.. Please don't even attempt to use this cable to power your GPU. It really sounds like you need to either buy a new power supply or check if your modular PSU has optional 8 pin PCIe cables you can order that work with it.

how about a model so we can tell if you even have enough juice? if you only have 1 6pin you might need a new psu too.

Looks like you are in for a new power supply. If you got a fury x coming and you still have questions about pci-e cables I am assuming you don't see one on your power supply, I wouldn't recommend using molex to 8 pin for this card. Don't be that guy, lol

OK sorry I should have posted my PSU model, it's been a while since I upgraded a GPU (last one was a 6850. One GB!)

The PSU I have is SeaSonic SS-750KM3 750W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

I am including photos of the two PSU/PCIE cables I was talking about earlier, see how they are both missing the little metal part and a wire on the PSU side of the connector?

You're fine. One end goes to the PSU, the other end goes to the card. Fury x has two 8 pin connectors. So you will use both of the 8 pin. Don't worry about the missing connector on the PSU side.

I've got the same PSU. I'm using a single PCI-E cable for a 390x. 1, 8pin and a 6 pin. No issues. Best PSU EVER!

oh youre gtg! that cable is supposed to be like that. its one of the ground pins and it prob just loops back at the other end. "+12V@63A" that's plenty for one card.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. THUMPer, I love this PSU too and the fact that it's hybrid so it only turns on when things get too warm.

Last quick question:

Do I hook up both PCIE cables to the PSU and use one PCIE extension per cable on the GPU?

or

Do I hook up ONE PCIE cable to the PSU and use both PCIE extensions on the GPU?

See the 3rd photo for reference, the cable has two PCIE extensions on one cable.

are you saying you have two of those cables? if so, either way will work. two cables will split the load but now you have two cable to deal with. one cable is fine and more than capable of powering the single card.

edit: and what thumper said

my first impression is wow, this card is TINY. the radiator is about the size of the card. I've got the radiator hooked up to the top front of the case as exhaust, I also put another fan on it as well to further pull air out, booked up to a case fan. I have the fan controller and DVD drive under the radiator, it's a 5 bay case.

one last question, on the PSU I listed above, does it matter where I plug in the PCIE cable into the PSU? there are about six different places where it can plug into.

It doesn't matter where you plug it into AS LONG as the port on the PSU label you are plugging it into says PCI-E

any of those, doesn't matter which.

so I finally got the card drivers installed, played a couple of games and I'm amazed at the graphics. started off with Max Payne 3.

one of thing I am not happy with is the loud noise the card makes, I'll have to open up the case next day I am off and see if it's the actual card or pump making the loud pitch noise that is almost unbearable. while playing games with headphones on it doesn't bother me at all but with headphones off you can hear it really well. I wouldnt mind if it had a lower pitch noise but the high pitch noise is just too much.

I'm going to open up the card and see if it has the old or new cooler master sticker.

anyone else have similar issues?

The Fury X had a pump whine when first released. This was corrected in later batches. Coil whine is non existent for me, and I have the XFX version as well.

The fan you added to the Fury X cooler is probably just introducing noise. You don't need it.

The card will run at 50* with the stock cooler underload.

If you have what's called coil wine then you can send it back for RMA. That is covered by warranty.

I have two Fury X cards in crossfire and they are virtually silent under load or otherwise.
