Battlefield 1 - Low FPS with newer CPU

Build:
FX 8370 overclocked to 4.3ghz with Wraith cooler
Radeon RX 480 4GB
16 GBs of memory

I was using an FX 6300 and could not get above 30fps during firefights. I installed this FX8370 and I'm having the same problem. In the main screens FPS is at 200, but as soon as it loads it drops to 40'ish. During intense fights it drops to around 10fps. I have tried multiple setting changes along with:
Installed newest driver (clean install)
Unparked CPU
Overclocked GPU

These are the recommended specs, which my systems meets.
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
  • Processor (AMD): AMD FX-8350 Wraith
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics card (AMD): Radeon RX 480 4 GB
Not sure what else to do. Its important to note that even turning all video settings to low does not improve FPS. Attached is a screenshot from HWMonitor if it helps.

Am I seeing that right? You got all 8 cores fully loaded but they are only running at 1.4ghz. It's also likely not just a fluke, the max values show that the CPU isn't clocking upwards even close to the default speeds. It's as if your CPU is stuck in low power mode.

Set the windows power scheme to its highest settings and check your motherboard's bios settings.

Ya something wrong with your CPU clocks there, i have an AMD 380 2G and an Xeon X5650 @ 4.03Ghz and i am about45-50% cpu usage and smooth FPS with it on auto (most items on high) in window modes running almost 2560 x 1080

What about other games? It does look like a low power setting issue though.

Weird. It is BF though. That game causes more strange issues than most. IF all of your power settings are right, I would suggest that you do a repair install in origin for bf. If that does not work, uninstall the game and origin and run ccleaner and the re-install. Something wonky with the software I would guess.

that FX chips sounds good on paper and everything but it's not the greatest....
I wouldn't overclock it and see what happens.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here. Enable "AMD Cool n Quiet"
C1E can stay disabled
And Disable Core C6 State.

Run BF1 see if your cores clock up now.

I was not able to turnon AMD Cool n Quite. Its not an option to change. I did disable Core C6 State. Ran battlefield. FPS dropped between 20 and 30fps. This screenshot is while the FPS was in that range.

I have an 8320, and noticed mine wasn't running games as fast as it had in the past. Checked my clocks, and they were around 1.5. When I changed the power management profile from energy-saving to performance, they jumped up to 3.5. Hope this helps.

I did change power management to performance. No change.

I updated Bios. No change to FPS.
Are you able to enable AMD cool n quiet now?

If not reset BIOS to default and see if your clocks change now with a load put in it. Like prime 95 or bf1.

You could try disabling the power management driver (copy it into a .reg and import):
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\amdppm]
"Start"=dword:00000004
remember to put it back to 3, waste of juice to have it running at max speed all the time.

if you havent yet, update the bios. see all those "auto"s in the bios?! start setting everything to manual and lock it all in. the multi is set to auto so that will allow it to go lower and disable all the cpu features. get it running correctly and then if you need then turn stuff back on one at a time testing in between.

edit: and your ram voltage looks low too. check what your kit is rated for but I'm pretty sure it should be 1.5v+

it might be your motherboard. I had an issue back in like 2004 where I was getting way below the fps I should no matter what vid card I used. I replaced everything in that pc and it was finally the motherboard. I replaced it with a different model.

The last thing I need to replace on this PC is the motherboard which I guess I'll have to end up doing cause this is bugging the hell out of me.

I overclocked the CPU to 4.9ghz. I ran Userbenchmark and it only went up 2% to 44%. No change on FPS in BF1.

his multi is set to auto and its dropping to 7x.
have you tried setting it to manual yet?
I re-read and saw that youre bios is up to date. so yeah reset the cmos, load optimized defaults and see how it acts stock. try that before replacing the mobo. then see if you can OC. but as stated above that mobo will limit your safe OCs, id say 4.3-4.4 tops especially with that wraith cooler. theres no way it will work for 4.5+!

Computer is running like a champ now. Than you to everyone for your input. Apparently there is a switch on this motherboard called SLOW_MODE. I turned it off and restarted PC. With no overclocking BF1 runs around 70 - 80 FPS even during fights.

A literal switch? Hah.
It's used for extreme overclocking: "The Slow mode immediately drops the processor frequency down while you increase or decrease the temperature of the system, once again to help with system stability"

Glad it's fixed. Enjoy the game!

I had it to 4.8 and it was running fine. Would definetely need a good cooling system to keep it there long term.

oh yeah it might run fine for a couple weeks until the vrm section melts down due to overloading. its not just the cooling you have to worry aboot...
