Google didn't waste any time sending Eric Schmidt to Cuba to get servers installed on the island. According to the article, the servers won't help with the country's aging infrastructure but, by locally caching content, it will help people that already have internet access have a "better experience."

A lot has happened since President Obama announced that Google would work with Cuba to speed up its internet. There's a new president in waiting and Fidel Castro has passed away, but the pledge to boost the country's connectivity is moving along thanks to a new agreement between the search giant and Cuba's national telecommunications company ETECSA.

Hey Uncle Google, how about offering Cuba Google Fiber infrastructure with no strings attached considering Cuba is smaller than states and provinces of other countries.

Unfortunate local cable companies and internet service providers in the states aren't playing nice with Google, unwilling to see that Google actually wants to do that. Even I support the idea. But some would rather have their bank accounts get fatter and funds sit and do fuck all.
