Posting this up for anyone with a HTPC who is interested in a nice gaming lapboard.

Amazon has the mechanical version for 139.99: https://www.amazon.com/ROCCAT-ROC-1...F8&qid=1481045657&sr=1-2&keywords=roccat+sova

The membrane version is 104.99: https://www.amazon.com/ROCCAT-ROC-1...F8&qid=1481045657&sr=1-1&keywords=roccat+sova

It is part of the deal of the day, so good for ~14 hours from this post. I ordered one for full MSRP that is yet to be delivered, so going to be returning that one for this deal.

why not wireless? or at least the option for wireless. I like this concept - I don't like the idea of running a cable across my floor to my couch for a couch based K&M setup. That makes little sense.

my guess would be due to the general consensus of input latency that goes with wireless transmitting at a distance?? But I'm sure there is more to it than that

I believe a wireless version is in the works, but no idea on when it will be released or what the final cost would be. But I do agree that a good wireless setup would be better. (I'm just not waiting for that day! I want to actually use my HTPC properly for once! And I want to do it now!)

At least the wire is a break-away cable so no one will trip and fall!

anyone playing on a projector or HDTV isn't doing so competitively. There is input lag, AVR processing lag, projector or HDTV lag, unstable surface, etc. You want competitive you'll play at your computer desk on a monitor and a solid surface. This is a convenience fun thing - as such (IMO) it should definately be wireless (USB dongle) - or at least an option for wireless for the vast majority of consumers picking this up.

Only wireless I've seen so far is the Razer Turret...

Ty for the heads up, didn't know that the membrane version existed , picking one up now .

What I'm saying, is that the presence would annoy me. Simple as that. Not that it really messes me up, or makes it unplayable, or is a big deal by any means for a mass of PC owners. But something that costs this amount would generally not exhibit any noticeable input lag

I agree with the wireless comments. These lapboards are HUGE, at least they look to be huge from the pictures. One of the biggest problems with wireless is the battery life, but these things are large and heavy and certainly have the space to accommodate large batteries to power fast, low latency rf wireless for a long time. If wireless is good enough for lets say a Logitech G700 then its good enough for living room gaming.

It doesn't have to be top end professional latency, but that doesn't mean it must be junk. There is a balance and a place in the market for pretty good wireless.
