I just bought The Witcher 2 from GoG, for $2.99. It came out in 2011. After setup I was getting 7 FPS. Specs:

Dell T3500
X5672 CPU, 3.2 Ghz, 4 core, HT = 8.
eVGA GTX 750 Ti SC 2 GB
120 GB SSD
320 GB HDD
3 TB external HDD.

Was this game, when it was released in 2011, that taxing on people's computers?

I'm kind of shocked.

Wyo

A GTX 680 that was top of the line right after Witcher 2 came out could get like 35 FPS with ubersampling off. A 680 crushes the 750ti. Combine a relatively slow card and a relatively slow westmere CPU with a very intensive game and you get bad frame rates, sorry bud. Have you turned a lot of the settings down? Ypu're going to have to run at medium or lower I would guess, I have the game but never played it beyond a couple of minutes, I didn't like the controls.

um what res? I don't see that mentioned. also, start at low settings for everything and work your way up.

Thanks guys, res is 1080p. I've turned a lot of stuff down and I'm now getting between 45 to 60 in Fraps. It's playable. I just thought that a 5 year old game would run better on this rig.

Your GPU is too slow. that 750 is a very slow GPU. Look at getting a 1050ti ot 1060 6gb GTX. Both those cards should last you a lot longer.

Also CPU...overclock it. You will get more performance possibly better minimum frames as well!

Witcher 2 was a tough game, just like Crysis. Glad you got it running better, it still looks good with settings turned down a bit.

Same here. I uninstalled it because I just can't stand the controls. I have not even tried W3 because I'm waiting for a dirt cheap sale with all DLC so if I spend the money and the controls are same I won't be mad like W2 which I paid full price.

as far as I can tell the controls are the same and that is probably the main reason I stopped playing both after a couple hours. just couldn't stand it!

Witcher 2 is pretty intensive for a 750ti, which isn't as powerful as a GTX 680 which was the flagship card when Witcher 2 came out.

Yeah that's not a good GPU, my gtx 780 could get 60 at 1080p on high/ultra with Uber sampling disabled, and that's about it. The game is from 2011 but it's a pretty intensive game, and the 750ti is a low end card from 2013.

What? Controls in TW3 is pretty much the same as in every other sandbox 3rd person RPG.

yeah I just really didn't like the way it felt. idk theres just something about it I cant stand and yeah ive had the same issue with a lot of 3rd person rpgs. I guess I just prefer jrpgs or action/lite rpg games.

The scheme for Witcher 2 and 3 = very close to one another. While I've gotten used to it, I still think it feels less than responsive. Plus, rather than going for practical strikes, there's a bit of flash to how Geralt attacks. Hit detection seems to never be automated. That makes things feel more delayed and floaty than say, Ninja Gaiden, God of War, etc.

Did you try enabling "alternative movement"?

The big complaint people had with the controls with TW3 at launch was that Geralt felt really "floaty" and not very responsive. This option handles that problem quite well and really "tightens" up the control of Geralt.

With that said, the game plays absolutely great with a controller. I felt the responsiveness and controls were much better than TW2 even without the alternative movement option.

no I did not. hm....

echoing what most are saying. 750 is a pretty watered down GPU. Im fairly certain even the 760 crushes it. I would note 980s are probably getting really cheap used by now and those are all you need.

If you aren't completely over it and have moved on, I would suggest giving it another go with that option toggled ON. Let me know if it helps you at all, I do hope you give it another shot!
