In response to a recent report claiming that sales of the Apple Watch have dropped 71% due to an "aging lineup and unintuitive user interface," Tim Cook says that the Apple Watch is set for record level sales and that growth was "off the charts."

The Apple Watch, the company’s first new product launched under Mr Cook’s leadership, has had muted sales since it was first released last year. IDC said the decline in sales was down to “an aging lineup and an unintuitive user interface”, as well as the wait for a new model holding back consumers.

Prices have come down enough to compete with companies flagship models. For example:

Fitbit Blaze: $199.99
Fossil Q: $219.99
Series 1 Apple Watch 38mm: $269.99
Series 1 Apple Watch 42mm: $299.99

Given it's an "Apple" the spread isn't all that much. Coworkers have asked me quite a bit about getting one. So, I'd say Cook knows a little bit better than IDC.

Personally, I love my Blaze and does everything I wanted. Tell the time, Track my activity, stopwatch, text/call alerts.

The Apple Watch is just too complicated for what I want. I want *some* interactivity with my phone, but I do not want to replace my phone. And I do not want to give up battery life for all that flair.

For me, the Pebble is fine. And the price is acceptable.

I think the Fitbit is somewhat of a craze. Much like most fitness aids that people buy. Some people are in to it and keep up, but for many fitness is a new years resolution. Fitbit can claim that it's selling better then Apple, but compared against itself, sales are slowing.

Apple should have started simple. Just a basic, very well made watch, that compliments the phone and isn't a hassle and doesn't cost half of the phone.

How about rather than chalking it up to an "aging lineup and unintuitive user interface," we instead point fingers at "insufficient compelling reasons to buy one"?

The fact that the interface even NEEDS to be intuitive means they put too much shit in it.

It's like getting in to some of these modern cars. How do I turn on the damn headlights? Why does it take 10 finger swipes to play the radio?

Comes down to price. $369 starting price is a non starter for many including myself. It needs to be closer to $299

Is it really? I have a Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 watch, and even with the spy camera and everything, its just not all that useful to be honest. And I only paid $100.

You can place and take calls, sure, but talking to your wrist is a bit weird.

You can read texts, but to reply you're usually still busting out your phone.

The calendar reminders are nice, I'll give it that.

As an actual watch to tell time, its hugely inefficient because of the battery life issues of smart watches. Pedometer and stair counter deal, I thought was neat at first but the novelty wore off and, honestly, who cares. For a real workout you need to run a bit and not just walk around.

To pay three times as much? I don't see the value.

I knew three people that bought one. Not one is still wearing it.

I guess they got fed up desperately trying to justify their purchase to all that noticed it.

the things are like creeping crud around here. More and more co-workers wearing them. I suspect they figured out how to get work to pay for them finally.

I still chuckle when I see people with Apple Watches that cant immediately tell the time because the fucking screen is off until you jiggle your wrist to look at it just right.

They just need to stop trying wearable tech a 'thing'. i think its pointless as hell and more of a gimmick IMO and will never own a device that does all the same things as my phone but the phone does more.
