Gears of War 4

While mouse players will definitely have an advantage, I can see better pad players doing fine in Gears. It has some auto-aim to it and the game is played up-close far more than it probably should.
That said, I think VS. mode Gears is generally a hot mess. Cover shooters just don't translate well to deathmatch, IMO. The whole fire and cover notion is thrown out the window when people are attacking on all sides. The leads to 1-2 sniper points and a bunch of people running around and blind-fire rolling.

Even on the hardest difficulty it isn't that long of a game. I wasted hours and hours popping every stupid pod I saw. Had I known that did absolutely nothing, I bet my playtime would have been around 6 hours.

haha I did that for like the first 50 pods and said screw it.

I kept hoping there was some kind of Easter Egg, Achievement, or SOMETHING for popping all those damned pods. Some of them take a lot of hunting around to find and shoot. Angles are really tricky for some, too. Plus there some of the only things that can actually cause you to run out of ammo.
I still think that was an achievement they had to have been left on the cutting room floor. Otherwise, what's the point?

Man, this game is worst Gears I have played. It is also a very mediocre game. I am on Act IV and Chapter 4 or 5 I think and it has finally started to pick up. There is nothing in this game worth remembering even. 5/10 from me unless ending is a really great thing or something.

The ultimate troll. That's the point.

Nah latest drivers don't do anything might be a Windows 10 issue since it's tied to Windows 10...

I guess I'm the only one that really enjoyed the game. I thought it was pretty great, the story wasn't half bad and the action was pretty well paced. The end of the game is the most fun part for sure, and I felt like they could have done more with that aspect of the game(not to give out too many spoilers). I played on the hardest difficulty, I'd say it was around 8-10 hours from dieing a decent amount. Maybe I just suck at it? I'm not sure, 6 seems like a low estimate. Also, the hoard mode gives you a good amount of replay.

I agree. I really enjoyed it. It was a Gears game that admittedly played it a bit safe and didn't change too much but it was good at what it did. The best part was that it was just 'new' enough with it's subtle changes but still felt a lot like the Gears I loved. The same could not be said of a series like Halo which completely lost it's soul after Bungie.

I'd also say the 6 hour estimate is really low unless people are lying to brag about their skills. Playing this game on Insane is really difficult solo and there is no way you can do your first run in under 6 hours counting every death/retry. Try and tell me otherwise, I won't believe you. It's not that insane is too difficult, it's simply that they up the enemy damage so much you spend most of the time in cover recovering. Combine that with the inevitable headshot from peeking over cover at the wrong time and you've got yourself many retries and way more than 6 hours.

Yea I finally booted GOW4 to run the benchmark with my 1080Ti. Game is crashing at the first loading screen, freezes my PC, then reboots.

Anyway thanks for the Gears forum link. Looks like I'll have to follow it for an update.

The Windows Creators Update is such a mess. For something that seems so simple on the surface (3D Paint, whee!), it boondogled a whole lot of things related to graphics thanks to the new WDM 2.2.

Damn, multi-GPU would basically enable 60fps 8k gaming with this. It already runs extremely well on one GPU.

Not quite but the scaling here is impressive, I'm seeing 93%. So it would have been nice to see this much earlier but still the result is best in class scaling. With this and ROTR under DX 12 you're seeing nearly 100% scaling with a second card. Hopefully these can be common results as DX 12 becomes more common.

I'm going to re-install the game because I couldn't even get the game to launch not sure why....
If you go this route be prepared to download 125 gigs

Someone said on the GOW4 forums if you minimize the window while it's loading you can get to the main screen.
Then again I couldn't even get the game to load last time I tried....

Took me about a half hour how to uninstall the game because I had Win10 updates disabled so I couldn't download it again until I re-enabled them.

Yea hopefully it's good now. I ended up uninstalling it and decided to wait till it's fixed before downloading 100+ gigs. Why is this game so huge? Lol

I re-installed Win 10 I haven't done that since like 2 years ago I was downloading the game stopped the download noticed a big chuck of GOW game was on my SSD.
Couldn't find the file I have some other stuff I couldn't get rid of anyway 250 gig drive so you could install two copies of gears of war on my ancient drive =)

Installed Win 10 CU fresh didn't lose anything except my sanity for a while when I couldn't boot from USB was worried the other system partions were necessary.
I need a bigger SSD I have two but they are both 250.

Yeah I'm going to wait for this to be fixed before I do that again LOL if it ever gets fixed I was about 1/2 way though the game Steam and U-PLAY and Origin all picked up my scattered games couldn't believe Origin worked this time around.

The Gears games have always been massive. No idea why. It's not like they're particularly unique. The install time for Gears 1 on the PC is still the longest install I have ever seen. We’re talking 45+ minutes from a disk. Most other “large” games are about 1/8 of that. Not sure what the game size was, but I think it was the single largest PC game for a while. Whatever compression they used for that disk must have been bonkers.

For Gears 4 I’m sure the argument will be 4K textures and uncompressed audio, but it’s not like other games don’t have those things. Hell, there have been multiple patches for it that total something like 200GB. That’s enough for the entire game’s assets to be re-downloaded 2-3 times.

game sizes in general are getting bigger and bigger...seems like 25GB is the average nowadays...Fallout 4 with the High-Res texture pack was around 83GB

I noticed my Sniper Elite 4 without even the latest DLC was taking up 55 GB.

People on the Gears forum are reporting that new Nvidia drivers were released today and that it fixes the bsod 1080Ti problem.

This is one very long download I never downloaded a file this big before took almost 24 hours....I think the DLC is included in the file which is the reason for the increased file size.

Update: The game works now even my saves Sync in from Act III

I tired a few matches of Multiplayer lots of people seem to be playing they have a 300,000 cash up for a MLG e-sports.
I think I was playing with some of the better players out there cause even though the combat is kinda clunky it's still fun.
I might play a few more matches later on.

Single player is where the game really shines though still on ACT III.....

It's cross-platform. Unless you played ranked matches, you were almost entirely playing with Xbox One players. Nine times out of ten I'm the only PC user in the game on a social match. The MLG stuff is for console players too, as far as I know.

I don't know if the PC segment has increased since January but I could never get into a PC-only ranked match. That was the last time I ever attempted a ranked match on the PC. Honestly only ever had maybe 3 full PC ranked matches since the game was released because of the lack of players. Matchmaking would just go on forever and ever without ever starting a game most of the time.

Honestly, I'm kinda glad it went cross-platform simply for the fact that there are very few people out there with the PC version when compared to the Xbox One crowd. It also makes it that much easier for me to kick back with my controller rather than feel pressured into KB/M gameplay (but when I do play KB/M, it's a shitshow for all the Xboners, lmao).

Gears of War 4 ten-hour free trial offer begins next week

From June 9-15 a "limited time trial version" of Gears 4, with the first act of the single-player campaign plus full access to the Versus and Horde modes, will be available, offering up to ten hours of cumulative play time...progression earned during the trial will carry over if you purchase the full game, and special bonuses for new players including "guaranteed characters, weapon skins and new Horde Skills" will be granted as well...

Well it's a 110GB download for another retread of a decade old franchise, artificially locked to Windows 10 and the windows store and with graphics that - while not bad - don't really exceed many DX9 and DX11 titles.

It's like they didn't actually *want* a PC playerbase with all the ways they've hamstrung the game and limited it's market.
