OK Go usually has some pretty interesting videos but I think this one is my new favorite. It's really damn impressive when you think about all the work that went into a video that took less than 5 seconds to shoot.

I'm assuming up to the exploding guitars was the under 5 seconds. After that was normal filming.

I'm wondering how many takes they had to do.

That is what I wonder for a few of their videos. Here It Goes Again has them on treadmills walking / stepping from one to another, sliding from one to the one behind it... I always wondered how many times they eat shit before they got that right as it is a single shot with no cuts for the entire video. Then This Too Shall Pass is a huge Rude Goldberg machine that goes uncut for the entire video in a similar nature to this one. Upside Down & Inside Out is them in a zero g airplane with them moving around, pass things etc. And that is just a few examples of their videos that are very complex in their design vs most other video videos.

That was some pretty slick high speed camera work set up going on there.

But I'd imagine many things were pretty highly edited.

easily one of the coolest things ive seen all year! they must have used a program of some sort to pre-render it to get all the timings down before filming. otherwise it would have been A LOT of trial and error and takes.

Is OK GO the only band still making music videos? They should be the only band ALLOWED to make them.

Its supposed to be a single shot up until the exploding gitars

Surprisingly they tend to do everything in 1 long take. Only video of theirs that I know has a lot of editing is 'Upside Down & Inside Out' specifically because of the time limitations of the environment. They got ~27s per take of zero g. So they cut up the song into 21s segments and filmed 27s takes per segment and then sped up the video. The primary reason they went with the 27s sped up to 21s was that the test takes in Zero G looks like everything was in slomo in real-time due to how we perceive objects. They did multiple takes for each segment and then stitched each segment together but that was more of a factor of having to work in the environment that they did. Pretty much everything else they have done is a single long take with intricate camera movements and timing. It is all very impressive.

when your music is utterly forgettable one needs a gimmick. Snarky comment aside, they really do put together some great videos.

Not a snarky comment, I've seen them live, one of the worst shows I've been to. That one, and The Killers...sooo boring! PUSA is great in concert, so is Muse and The Melvins. Some of my favorites.

Worst concert I ever attended was The Cars; The Chuck E Cheese robot band had more personality.
