My company has roughly 60 surface pro 3 tables rolled out with Win8.1ent, we have lots of issues with them. All of them are on docking stations and the major issues are with the monitors, we've had continuous problems with the surfaces not detecting the monitors. Taking the surface off the dock and hooking it back up doesn't correct the problem. Sometimes it's to the point where you have to plug the monitors into the surface directly to get it to recognize them(the newer dock). Other times resetting the firmware(volume up and power button) will fix it and other times you have to unplug the dock and just let them sit for a few minutes.

Now we are testing some surface pro 4 with win10 and are experiencing the same issues.

New surface dock
Dell U2415, U2414h and P2214H

We've tried like 15 different mDP to DP cables, have the same issues with all of them.

We are really just wondering if other companies who are rolling out surfaces having these same issues?

Are their solutions that I do not know about for these problems?

MS is zero help.

I do not have an answer to your question but just some recommendations...

- I would guess it is the fault of the cable. You say you have tried 15 different cables, are they all same brand or completely different?

- Perhaps try connecting with a different cable connection. (example: MDP to HDMI)

- Possible to be old Display port 1.1 cable that just not compatible. (I could be entirely wrong on this one however I did have this issue with a monitor that needed a Display port 1.2 cable)

Good Luck.

Wait till you go Windows 10... Even worse with scaling issues on external monitors.... Anyhow back to your original issue. What I found is that when the monitors go to sleep they won't wake forcing us to do the same as you. I set a GPO (User Configuration > Preferences > Control Panel Settings > Power Options > New Power Plan ) to never allow monitors to sleep and it fixed that problem.
