ethernet cable through vent

I'm looking to run a ethernet cable from one room to the next. Two hot/cold air vents connect to the two rooms which are opposite of each other. Is it ok to run the ethernet cable through the vent to the next room?

Yeah it might. I'm looking to run the cable through the basement from the room, but the kitchen on the opposite side of my room already has a drilled hole going to the basement. I just don't want to drill anymore holes into the floor then need be.

It'll work fine. Not up to building codes, but it'll work.

I use to run a network cable from the basement, up through a ceiling vent to the floor vent in the office on the main floor. No problems.

Ditto! Did that at my old rent house.

I have a 100 footer zipped tied to the radiator piping running through my place, so far it hasn't melted yet, you should be fine with just a vent.

100 foot run from across the basement and up to the second floor via vent. I might suggest spending the extra $6 bucks on the shielded cable if you think it will pass near any electrical. Kitchen electrical tends to be rather high voltage/amps.
