I don’t know how many of you guys are into exploration games, but here is a great one for free (unless you decide to donate an amount to the developers).

You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something's not right. Where is everyone? And what's happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company. Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family's lives by investigating what they've left behind.

No idea but as some wise older gamer said to me recently, "FUCK IT, FREE IS FREE..." and so I add it to my available content library even so, thanks for the heads up. ;)

Looked on the developer's website, couldn't see anything about the discount...

So torn. It's free but it also looks really boring. Even free seems like too much for this. This seems like a game someone should be paying me to play.

This old opinion again? Is there a reason people have to dismiss these types of experiences? There are, in fact, some puzzle elements in this one, though admittedly light. It's still an interesting couple of hours, especially if you grew up in the 90s.

I used to play games during the 80s and 90s, though there were some interesting "experiences" too.

I'm all nostalgia'd out, thanks. I'd like the "talented" "progressive" members of the artistic community to think of something atleast somewhat new instead of riding on the efforts of their (parents) childhood.

Imho the game caters to the player that sometimes enjoys picking up a book to read before bedtime; basically this is an interactive fiction/mystery novel rather than a "game" in the classic sense.

If you like to go through a fiction novel "visually" then you may enjoy the experience, it does what it wants to do very well. If not then this is not the game for you.

Your words about reading before bed have swayed me to give it a shot. Downloading now. I'll know within 5 minutes if I want to keep playing or not.

Pac-Man on the Atari 2600 was an "experience"

Downloaded the game for my wife. Hope she likes it. It's crazy how the Linux build is 40% smaller in size.

Got it on ps4 when it was one of the freebies. It was alright but I'd never pay for it or play it again. It started out as a good mystery but the storyline just didn't go the way they lead it to go.
Story in a nutshell:
girl comes home. House is empty. Evidence is found House belonged to creepy relative. You're lead to believe House is haunted. Turns out parents just left and your sister found out she is a lesbian who ran away with her lover. Game ends

Would have preferred a Steam key. Downloaded the .exe but I'll forget about it after a few days. Too many other games to play.

IHow is this riding on anyone's parents childhood?

It's a $20 dollar game for free that was well received. 10 minute download, play it and see what you think. Pretty much a no brainer.

Click on the big button that says "Download or Claim", then click on the "No thanks, just take me to the Downloads" link.

Thanks, I grabbed this when free on PS4 as well but never loaded it up. I will give it a shot on PC.

Definitely praise I wouldn't give it. It was 4/10 at best.
The new York Times nailed it.

To each their own though.

This game was absolutely horrible. I can't believe I wasted my time with it.

There. I just saved you 3 hours. There is nothing else to the story line at all.

I found it pretty enjoyable. Even though I knew going in there would be no combat or scares, I was still on-edge the whole time. The mouse control has this weird accelerating sensitivity that made looking around a bit frustrating, but all-in-all it's a solid "day in the life" interactive story. 3.5/5 stars.

The happy ending was a surprise. I was 99% sure that when I got into the attic I would find the sister hanging from the ceiling.

I like how many people bitch here about the free games that hardocp post for people.

Nothing wrong with criticizing a free game if you played it or did some research, watched gameplay, etc. It wasn't well-received on Metacrtic by users. There's plenty of negative Steam reviews as well.

nice atmosphere in the beginning i though it would have some alone in the dark subtle horror things in it and it really keeps you locked in that thinking by constantly throwing subtle hints about horror.... but then never delivers. and it all just a small story about nothing really.
Leaving you with a feeling of... whas that really it?!?! I loaded the save before the ending thrice thinking something was wrong in the loading of the next part of the game before i realized that WAS The game and all the excitement built up was for nothing.

In short: 2 puzzles hardly a game more like just listening to a small meh story.

And what about the other games they post? All people do is bitch about having to use Origin, or Uplay or how they will never play a game by X publisher even if free. I don't think I have yet to see a single free game posted on here that 1/2 the people aren't bitching about for some reason. I am fully aware of this game. I watched a Rooster Teeth Game Club video about the game months back, but that doesn't change that this is a free game. If you want to give it a try then give it a try, it won't cost you anything. If you don't like it then delete the game.

Maybe they had a bad experience with other game store clients or don't like their games?

I would say that people bitch about free games because most of them suck and aren't worth the time to download them, let alone install them. I've got several free games on Steam that I'll probably never touch.
