What are latest roadmap leaks for both AMD and NV

The upgrade itch is getting stronger, especially with my 980 ti getting barely sufficient for dx12 titles - need either to forget msaa or keep it at 2x in 1440p to have Forza or Gears 4 over 50 FPS. I saw the benchmarks tho, and 1080 gtx does not look like best idea, as it's just about what 10-15% diff tho.

So what are the latest rumours about new gen of GPU? Apart from 1080 Ti in January. Last I checked it was Volta in 2H of 2017 and AMD's Vega in H1 2017? Or did something change with those plans?

The date on the 1080TI is a rumour. And nothing has changed.

I think even the existence of the 1080Ti is a rumor at this point, right?

Yes, just like the ability for AMD to make Vega a competitive high end GPU is also a rumor. AMD's last three major GPU releases have all struck out, they show no ability to deliver.

R390: Just a 290 with 8GB of RAM and some PCB improvements. AMD played games with people and trying to claim the chips were "new and improved". Nope, just 290 GPU dies on slightly improved PCBs.
Fury X: Good idea, poor execution and price, limited VRAM, almost immediately turned into a meme for the "overclocking monster" comments from AMD
Polaris 480: Similar performance to the years old 290, sometimes worse than a 390, blanketed with AMD marketing lies. Card was supposed to bring low power + high performance to the mid range. Cards use more power than the competition.

So now after (arguably) three misses in a row, people still think Vega is going to be a great card?!? I think this is going to end up like AMD in the CPU space. They can put out some products, but they can't really compete.

True. I'm sure they'll have SOMETHING. The question is how fast will it really be? I'm sure Nvidia CAN make a 1080Ti, but I'm not sure if they WILL unless the Vega is surprising.

It is. The card itself will come if you think a non Titan GP102. But it may simply end up as a refresh line, 1180ti/2080ti?, including a new Titan and so on and all the usual options with faster memory and clocks down the lines.

The actual release of such a card is really rumor until it's officially announced, or someone at least has their hands on leaked hardware. I'm not saying it won't come out, but there's no evidence yet.

1080 ti will come if vega is competitive. If it's around 1080 then they won't do it. Just like fury x came and then nvidia dropped 980ti. That's just how it is. There is no need for it at the moment. Those who want more power will end up having to squeeze that extra money for new titan x.

There have to be some GP102s out there that don't have disabled SMs, just waiting to go into a card?

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I'm guessing Nvidia is holding the release in reserve until they get some better idea of Vega performance. If Vega > 1080, Nvidia will have an immediate stop-gap measure to release before Volta.

So I have an upgrade itch.
My 980 Ti cards are good byt starting to grunt a bit with the new games.

1080 GTX or hold out for a 1080 Ti if it becomes a reality?

I could suck it up for a couple months, no problem, but does Jan 2017 sound like a reasonable estimate?

A 1080 really won't be an upgrade at all for two 980TI's. You would need two of them and really even then I wouldn't say it is worth 1200 bucks based on your current cards.

HA! 980TI... try my 770 if you want to cry. Waiting to get a 4K screen to upgrade my GPU... c'mon c'mon c'mon black Friday...

Geez, 980ti's and upgrade itch? What resolution do you game at?
