Razer ... never again

I'm on my second Razer Naga. First one lasted 2 years before the scroll wheel would double scroll and also it started double clicking randomly. Though my second one is almost 3 years old with no problems. Love the number pad buttons on the side, use it in almost all the games I play.

I love my Deathadders. Have an old Black edition from years ago that's still working fine and just got a Chroma that I really like.

I had little (double click was resolved with a new firmware on my Chroma) to no issues with my Razer products: Tournament edition 2014, Deathadder Chroma, 3.5g and 3g. But this is a limited scope of their products and I could have been lucky all this time. I heard some horror stories though...

Love my Death Adder 2013 and my Black Widow 2016 keyboard. They work awesome. Solid as hell to me. Everyone's mileage varies though.

I had the death adder too. Damn lights made it hard to sleep.

Went to a mx518 at the time. That died after 10 years. I replaced it with the g400s. Love that mouse.

So turn the lights off... It's an option in the software. Either way, why would you buy a mouse with lights and then complain about the lights?

Actually, if you could I never found how. Razors software in 2004 was...nonexistent really.

And since I bought it online there weren't many reviews.

I was young and had money?
:)

Just had to comment: interesting to see many folks moved away from Razor (years ago) and went to Corsair - me too! Guess it says something about how very few brands have the quality and/or features Razor once had.

I've been partial to Logitech mice and trackballs for a while. I used a R.A.T. 7 mouse for a very long time and although I liked it a lot, the build quality left a lot to be desired (it fell apart within a year).

I used to use a Logitech Trackman Marble (old 3 button PS/2 version) to game with and it was a beast. I could head shot people consistently to the point where people thought I was using an aimbot. :) I lost count of the number of times I replaced the Omron micro switches inside it because I wore them out. Only reason I moved on from that trackball was because it wouldn't work correctly with Windows XP and Logitech had stopped supporting the PS/2 version with their software. :(

I'm currently using a Logitech G602 wireless gaming mouse and it's holding up pretty well though I did have to take a soldering iron to it just last week. The middle mouse button stopped working because the push button micro switch they used failed prematurely. Thankfully I have some of those switches lying around from my Arduino kits. Other than that it's been pretty good. It's not as responsive as my old Trackman marble was but I do alright with it. :)

I too had a R.A.T.7 and the MMO7. The latter I had two of. Both of which physically broke in a few months. The R.A.T.7 still works, but I don't use it much anymore. I hate the software that comes with it. I use it on my test bench currently. I don't really play games with it so it works out fine. I too am using a Logitech G602 as a replacement.

How is the G602?

Few years back I went through 4 DA's within 2 years. 2 had cord problems, 1 stopped clicking and the last one just died. Don't even get me started on Synapse, there software front end software for gaming peripherals. If you want something that does last Logitech mice, though there non-mechanical keyboards are lackluster.

I really appreciate Razer's commitment to unique design. You can say what you will about quality, but they do try some really novel things in peripherals.

That said, my experience has been the same as most others here. I've had a Mamba mouse, Barracuda headset, Barracuda soundcard, Razer Keyboard (can't recall which) -- every single one had an issue either out of the box or within several months of use.

I will say their laptops are second to none, however, and the Blade I had was amazing.

I really like it. While I don't like the software too much, its better than most of the competing options. The hardware is excellent. Its durable, comfortable and reliable so far. I've used mine for probably six months now.

I like my G602 a lot but it could be better. When I first bought it I removed the teflon feet it came with and replaced it with some mouse skates (I forgot the exact brand). I also put some Sugru on it to make a pinkie finger and thumb rest on it; the pinkie rest so my finger would stop dragging along on the mouse pad and the thumb rest so I wouldn't hit the six buttons on the left side of the mouse while moving it around. I can still hit the six buttons though if I want to.

I also had to take a soldering iron to my G602's middle mouse button. I rarely use the scroll wheel button so I don't know exactly how or when it happened, but mine was completely broken. It's not a Omron microswitch; it's almost identical to the pushbutton switches you'd use on an Arduino project. Once I put in a good quality switch the thing's been great!

Oh yeah, in regards to it being wireless (the G602), it's been great! To me I can't tell the difference between this wireless mouse and a wired mouse in terms of tracking and button response, the G602 feeling like it's a wired mouse to me.

I enjoyed my Logitech MX518 for years. When I had to replace it, I got its successor, the g400s. Been loving it, too. When I eventually have to replace it, I'll probably get it's successor XD

Though, as much as I love my Corsair keyboard, I may try one of their mice..

So far i dont get hype about Razor, that overpriced fancy green goo. Logitech is my go to. Steelseries kinda looks dope though

1.0 out of 5 starsThis mouse is a spyware device designed to collect information ...

This mouse is a spyware device designed to collect information about you and then use that information to generate revenue.

The configuration software for this mouse, Razer Synapse, requires an internet connection. You must submit and verify your email address with the program to use it. Then, it sends information about you and your computer to Razer, and continues to run as an always-online data-mining surveillance application.

Razer mentions an “offline mode” on their website, but there is no such thing. It's a placebo to placate criticism of their activities. You can not register the software offline, and you can not use it without registering.

If you uninstall the software, features of the mouse stop working.

In my case, all I wanted to do was to turn off the LEDs and set one of the side buttons to be the middle-mouse button, but I can't do that without giving Razer my email address (for spam/marketing purposes), sending the unique serial number of the device, and associating that serial number to my IP email address, name, mailing address, a list of all software installed on my computer, and probably much much more.

Some time back in 2012, I remember reading news stories and Razer and their spyware. Then I forgot. Today when I got my new mouse, I remembered when I couldn't use it without giving my personal privacy and security.

“Why the hell does this mouse need to connect to the Internet?”

To add insult to injury, the mouse I got was assembled badly and both of the rubber sides had fallen off, and the case doesn't look like it was assembled correctly. I would have needed to send it back anywa.

I will buy something else from another brand.

Check out Roccat and Mionix. Roccat in particular is known for being friendly to Linux. I have already ordered a mouse from each and we will see how it goes.

I've been using a Logitech trackball for years when gaming, but I do not even game much these days.

Haven't used a mouse in a couple decades personally, I even have a trackball on the small keyboard on the HTPC.

A mouse has always seemed backwards to me once I was used to a trackball IMHO.

I picked up a cheap razor deathadder for work (IT, all my other old gaming gear comes to the office with me for continued use), honestly it's a good feeling mouse going over 2 years strong for 40+ hours a week. I'm a fan.

It's the only razor product I'd ever consider repurchasing if this one fails, I'll steer clear of everything else, no questions asked. Too many buddies with headsets failing/dropping channels/sound bleed through the mic, mice/keyboards no longer working within the first year, etc. Other then my one exception, I find them cheap and gaudy, I'd much rather shell out a bit more for something that lasts.

i actually like all the razer stuff I owned...

Coming up on 8 months with my Steel Series Sensei Raw.
Still very happy with it.
Wouldn't waste money on Razer products even if I had Bill Gates' bank account.

Seems like this thread dates back a good ways, but FWIW I was a Logitech guy (even though I had a few die to inevitable cable failures) MX510, 518, G400... until they kinda went off the rails a little bit. They never put their best available sensors in normal mice. I'd pay the same price as the G502 for the sensor in a MX518 style body shell, I don't need the extra bullshit buttons and crap. Anyway, I switched over to a Mionix Naos 7000 and haven't looked back. It is excellent, and I believe they have a more ambidextrous model available as well.

Never even considered Razer, I've heard too much about their mediocre quality to risk spending the money on them. where theres smoke, theres fire.

As far as mice go, I've used both a Razer Mamba wireless and Deathadder. The Mamba had the dreaded double-click after a few month and constant signal loss, and the Deathadder lasted a few years before the sensor crapped out. I feel like the Deathadder is one of Razer's solid devices, the rest are suspect (I've owned mice, headset, a keyboard, a soundcard... all broke).

In contrast, I had a Logitech MX performance and an early Logitech gaming mouse (G3.. something) that are still kicking. My current mouse is a Mionix Naos and I can't imagine it being better designed (just wish I would have waited for the version with the heart rate monitoring).

best mouse I ever had was MS IntellExplorer, I still have it, its about 7 year old, still use it on my server.

Logitech service is great, I've had to use it 3 times to replace their keyboards over the last 10 years (G15 and K740). What does that say about the quality of their keyboards? :D

My Logitech mice on the other hand, have been bullet proof.

I bought a Razer mouse from best buy clearance about 10 years ago.

Good lord... it took 6 EXCHANGES to get a working one. Double click issues, mouse randomly dying after 10 mins, and all sorts of issues.

Best buy ran out of stock for me to exchange and the last two exchanges had to go through Razer's RMA dept which took forever!

I gave their trashy keyboards a chance as well and when the letter "E" died, I gave up on them entirely. Ricer brand... rice quality.

I've had a razer Taipan mouse for coming on 2 years now that's been great. I love it actually. but I am going to be replacing it soon because the glide pads on the bottom are pretty worn.

Wasn't sure what to get but those mionix mice look pretty cool. I'll give one of those a try.

As far as razer, I've had some of their mice a decade ago and they both failed due to the wire connectivity issue. I've had Logitech mice fail as well though for the same issue and click issues.

Now I use a office clip to secure my wire under the desk so that there is never any tension or pulling of the mouse wire. one of those black clips with prongs on both sides. I run the wire through the black piece and clip it somewhere underneath. wire hangs where I want it and never pulls. I think that can lead to issues.

I have heard more people have issues with the Razer mice and keyboards. I'm looking for a new mouse and Razer isn't on my list.

My Black Widow keyboard stopped working after around 2 months. Just flat out stopped working. Got a new replacement (from Amazon) then got rid of it. Been using a Cooler Master Quickfire ever since. Never tried the Razer mice but I probably will not. After about two years my Logitech G400 developed a problem with the right click. They sent me a brand new G400S, no charge and no shipping. I did not even have to send back the old G400. Aside from requiring excessive force on the right click, the old G400 works fine. Been well over two years with this G400S and no problems with it yet. Logitech stands by their products at least.

These are the last Razer mice that were quality products

Notable mentions: (no pictures didn't save them)
Original Viper
Original Diamondback

I have tried a great number of Razer mice over the years, most recently the Razer Mamba & Mamba Tournament Ed.... they all had tracking problems with in a short while.

I now use the Ducky Secret M and I couldn't be happier, I have given up on Razer.

The IntelliMouse was literally the best gaming mouse ten years ago. I moved onto an MX518 and now a Razer Naga 2014 that does me well.

The logitech Pro fits me better than the Intellimouse did I used to own like 3-4 of them with the Dell Logo I never could get used to the shape.

2 years ago I had purchased the Razer Vespula mouse pad, within a year, both surfaces had started to peel off the frame, and krazy glue couldnt fix the problem. This is my only experience with Razer.

You guy's should read the Minox founder talk about Razer mice it's pretty funny he talks about some guy shoving a snake down the throat of a 14 year old he was talking about Razer mice. He thinks most mice area joke the Minox founder.
