Say "hi" to sponsored messages in Facebook Messenger? More like say "goodbye" to Messenger. Why in the world would anyone want companies spamming you via Messenger? Personally, I think that any company that thinks this is a good idea is just plain wasting its money. If you want to see your customers turn against you, start spamming them with unsolicited messages.

As early as this week, you may start to see ads in your News Feed that enable you to click straight into a Messenger conversation with a company. Perhaps the biggest change for you, though, is that if you've struck up a conversation with a brand in the past, it can pay to send you sponsored messages, effectively advertising to you directly through your Messenger inbox. Facebook emphasized that users will have control over the interactions. If a company attempts to re-engage you in conversation and you aren't interested, you can block it.

I already see sponsored ads on my Facebook feed, so it was probably only a matter of time. At least this is only certain companies and you can block them specifically...more control than you have over your normal feed, it would seem.

That sounds like Facebook wants to be a 3rd party to your conversations. Think about it, it would be amazing.

You : Hey hun, can't wait for tonight.
Significant other: me either, I bought tickets to the movie already.
You: cool, we can get dinner after and see what happens "wink wink"
Facebook : sounds like you guys are going to have a great night, have you considered Trojan condoms?

Amazingly awful. . .

Hahah that's gold

"If a company writes you an email it's usually a no-reply ad," Marcus said. "We have a path to providing a much better user experience for that."
No ads provides a better user experience, get that through your thick skull facebook.

Facebook is really trying hard to get us to switch to another service.

At first I thought this might be a good thing until after reading the article. All you're doing is talking to a bot. Why not have an actual rep do the talking?

I'm sure blocking a sender to stop chat spam will be as effective as blocking a sender to stop email spam.

I already uninstalled Messenger this week due to it totally ignoring my settings in regard to turning off the sound and vibration notifications. They also removed the ability to turn off notifications entirely for more than 24 hours at a time. Guess I should have known it was in preparation for this bullshit.

Why I've refused to get messenger when I can just use the web interface.

Only on desktop. You can only view messages on the mobile Facebook site temporarily, it eventually forces you to download the messenger app. Happened to me and my gf last week.

Damn. Is that the Android or iphone version? I thought the phone's OS would override any apps in regards to notifications.

It's on the Iphone. The app started disregarding the notification settings after the last app update.

I seriously don't understand why their marketing people assume we're all too stupid to delete something when it becomes parasitic garbage. Apps are disposable.

More like:

Facebook: Looking for something to do tonight? Try Dave & Busters! Click to learn more.

Facebook: You could have saved a few bucks if you used Fandango. Remember, for your movie needs, use Fandango.

I was the same way, but on mobile now it won't let you. I guess you can force the non mobile though.

That's so annoying. I prefer to not have FB apps installed because they constantly send notifications of stupid shit.

I prefer to not have apps for websites at all because when every place has an app it'll be a cluster fuck. Then, someone will make an app to navigate apps, which will just be another version of a web explorer. Its fucking stupid. Not every place needs a fucking app.

So glad Kyle didn't go with that dumbass tapatalk bullshit.

The Russian version of Facebook, vk.com, kicks ass. That's what Facebook should be like.

You guys don't get it. You're the product, not the client. You're cattle on Facebook, and the advertisers are the hungry people waiting for their ribs.

I will never use that conduit for buzzfeed and huffington post. So I won't be saying "Hi" to anything from those fascists.
