It's sad that we keep hearing about crap like this from Uber drivers. Obviously this scumbag's attorney is sticking up for him but that's to be expected, I just want to know what Uber is going to say about this.

"Surveillance video then shows the Defendant go back to his vehicle and pull the Victim out of the back seat," charging documents said. "The Defendant then lifts the Victim into the air, and wraps his arms around her so her feet are not touching the ground." The man carries the woman into a motel room and spends time in the room before leaving and heading to a nearby 7-Eleven where he bought various items with the woman’s credit card, police said.

Interesting tech story.

Of course it's rech related.....because tech would have stopped this!

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

  2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

A friend is so drunk that they black out and you think it a good idea to put them into a vehicle with a stranger to take them home. I wouldn't trust any uber or taxi driver in a case like this. But I guess that is just me.

From the title of the thread, I thought the Uber driver was kidnapped after assaulting a passenger. It took me a minute to figure things out.

Best part of the article is this from the guys lawyer.

She’s saying she doesn’t remember anything,” Gergely said. “If she doesn’t remember anything, she certainly doesn’t remember saying, ‘I don’t want these things to happen.’ ”

She is passed out you stupid shit, she can't give consent.

I really hate to give the bastard any room, but do all states have the yes means yes laws? For a long time it was only considered rape if the person said no and you continued. This meant it was ok for two consenting adults to engage in sex with no verbal permission, but also meant if a person was too drunk to really know what was going on that was still good enough to not be rape as they didn't say no. At that point you had some places start to change the law so instead of a person needing to say no for it not to be rape, they instead have to verbally say yes otherwise it is rape. So depending on the area and the laws that fucker might actually have an out if they are only a no means no requirement area.

I remember stories like this about cab drivers back in the 80s. It's not Uber's fault there are people like this, and doing background checks is going to do very little to stop it. The problem is people. There will always be those who victimize others, and we have developed a problem with too many people unable or unwilling to take the responsibility of protecting themselves. As long as we continue to develop more into a country of victims, we will continue to have more victims. Take responsibility to defend yourself, don't trust people so easily, and you won't be a victim.

In Austria, a 20 yr Iraq refugee was found guilty of raping a 10 year old boy, but was not punished for it because it couldn't be proven that he understood the boy was saying no, lost in translation I guess.

Oh, he was a taxi driver no less......

Well, in Cook County (Illinois), the sheriff says to women, "If you are about to be raped, jam two fingers down your throat and throw up on your assailant. That will get him to stop. And never ever use a gun to shoot your assailant."

Just another reason, beside lower costs and better general safety and higher reliability, that Uber's pushing hard to autonomous driving in its future.

Or shit your pants. That will delay the rape or stop it altogether. I instantly lose my boner when I smell poop

So what you're saying is i should develop a kickstarter for rape prevention underwear that emits lots of poop smell when it's voice activated by "RAPE" or "STOP!"

Did he rape her? I find it interesting that there was no mention of rape or sexual assault.

You know that's what happened but she was already blacked out and didn't remember a thing. Why he checked out a motel room... for the conversation? Though, there was no mention of a rape kit being administered, and why not is the million dollar question?

Exactly. Strange.

In defense, any chance the friend was just about as drunk?

A friend of the woman called an Uber for her and requested she be transported to her home in Fairfax County, Va.
What 'friend' would look at that guy when he shows up to take her home and say. 'Yeah, she'll be fine'.

The title of this thread is somewhat misleading at first glance, I read it as "Uber driver is kidnapped, and the passenger from their vehicle was assaulted" but obviously that's not the actual case at hand. Just adding a word or two like "Uber Driver Kidnaps And Assaults Passenger" or something similar sorta-kinda-maybe might have been better, perhaps?

Anyway, while I know people are stupid and express it in various manners and ways 24/7 without fail, this idiot now ex-Uber driver, geez.
