You know all those really cool wing suit videos you see all over the internet? This isn't one of them. Everything starts our great (if you consider jumping off a perfectly good cliff "great") but things turn bad when dude decides to do some stunt flying through the trees.

Did the guy somehow recover/survive ?

Eric flew through a tree going over 90mph, he should have died, but and for the lack of a better word, it’s a MIRACLE he’s still with us. His injuries were “only” left scapula fracture, left acromian fracture, left neck abrasion, left clavicle fracture, 3 left side rib fractures, left hemopneumothorax, grade 1, liver laceration, head trauma, multiple scalp lacerations.

His friends setup a GoFundMe because obviously we need to encourage this stupidity and pay for his mistakes.

Also from the looks of the comments, the military should be covering all his expenses.

Like the comments that say that him being active military means he doesn't need money for medical expenses, because it's all covered by the VA, along with him getting full pay while recovering too. GoScamMe?

That said, I would love to do one of these wing suits too, but I don't think I'd have the balls to do that close to grow stuff, flying over everything really high, sure. But as soon as I can smell pine trees I'm pulling my parachute.

People who do this stuff are just asking to get hurt. Stuff happens and they shouldn't cry about it later. They hurt due to their concious decision.

From the interviewer StoleMyOwnCar linked:

"Brandon Russell and I went to the scene looking for your GoPro. Dude, there was blood, tree carnage and debris everywhere. You flew through an 8” diameter tree trunk and snapped the top 20’ completely off. Your debris trail was almost 300’ long."

This guy has to be a cat and that cost at least 7 of his 9 lives.... Damn.

Ouch. as soon as the guy got low and you could easily see his shadow... maybe already too late to pull the chuet? dude is fortunate to be alive.

Is he US military? The only reason they wouldn't pay for everything, including the chamber, is because he didn't do the proper safety brief before hand.

I still want a wingsuit someday.

With that said, that guy was lucky. His heart probably nearly stopped as soon as he saw that he was going to hit that tree. It reminds me of that one Jeb Corliss accident where he clipped his leg on a rock at Table Mountain in South Africa. Ugly.

He can have his gliding wing suit. I will take one of those jetpacks I saw the other day. Now that is flying.

That wasn't flying, it was falling with style. at least until the tree incident. At first I thought he was dangerously close the ground and trees, then I figured maybe the camera field of view made it look that way, then he hit a tree...

Way too low! No chance to pull chute, problem is there was a slight uphill before the next drop off. Totally misjudged those trees and mountain elevation. He could have pulled the chute to slow the speed, but its gonna be crashing with style!

Look at what he did to one of the trees he hit.

I'm glad the guy is ok. But this and the pic of the tree had me cracking up.

The look on that guy's face in the picture is what got me.... My co-worker said if it were him, he'd be mailing that chunk of the tree home as a trophy/reminder. "I cut this down... WITH MY SHOULDER!"

Holy jesus. That was amazing, thankfully he survived. Also apparently I'm becoming a squeamish baby in my old age because I was cringing waiting for the screaming to happen at the end, but...

Being stopped by trees that broke is *slightly* better on the "terrible things you never want to experience" scale than being stopped by the ground at 90MPH and becoming a puddle.

pretty dumb given a guy recently died doing the exact same shit except that the tree he hit didn't break but his body did.. guess some people are missing the key brain cells to learn from the mistakes of others..

Haha, well I suppose I can't disagree with that!

Yeah, playing "Let's see how close I can get to these trees" is not the most intelligent game.

I am glad the camera survived.

there was also a dude that thought he could cut a bridge and the bridge took him out with extreme prejudice

Remember that dude where the train hit his head but he survived? He later said that he just wanted to see how close he could get his head to the passing train ... these wing suit guys are basically playing the same stupid game.

I would so do this, not much closer one can get to feeling like a falcon in flight than this. I would like some thrusters and airbrakes to assist though. God bless that poor sap he did escape by the hair of his chin.

I'm sorry but I busted up laughing when the voice starts saying, "oh no, oh no."

the quality isn't much better but here it is from a different angle
